Looks like it might be down to Jets and Jaguars for Tebow.

I've got to think the Jets are just doing this as a PR ploy: they don't need a QB controversey and option QB is way down their list of team needs.

Why would they do this?

"Look We love Mark Sanchez. Sanchez is our lead.....What? Tebow? Hes available? Lets try to get him!......what was I saying? Oh Yes Mark Sanchez is the QB and leader of the NY Jets."

Has to be the dumbest PR and Personnel move ever. Even if they dont get him.

Nah, they can always claim they saw him solely as an H-back.

If the Jets needed someone to keep the option QB/slash type of player with an inflated salary, they could have outbid the Bills to keep Brad Smith.

Oddly enough, I think that in a vacuum, he would make sense to challenge Sanchez. Sanchez has been in the league three years as a Top 5 pick and just hasn't produced like one. He deserves to have some level of internal competition, and Tebow is probably around of QB they should be bringing in: someone who could feasibly start but also could serve as a backup and push Sanchez to perform.

But this isn't a vacuum. If there's even a whiff that Tebow is there to be a QB instead of an H-Back or "Slash" player, the NY media will be calling for him the second Sanchez has his first 14/24, 132 yard, 1 TD, 1 INT game, and the fans may be calling for him before that. This probably subverts any edge Sanchez had coming in.

If Tebow ends up on the Jets, is there any chance they send Sanchez packing (to, say, the Jaguars) or is his contract that much of a poison pill?

The Jets can't move on from Sanchez without significant cap damage.

NYJetscap.com is usually reliable and he says cutting Sanchize in the 2012 league year would result in $24M in dead money and ~$17M cap penalty.

The hit is a lot less bad if they trade him (about $9 million of the dead money is his guaranteed salary next year and $3 million is his guaranteed salary this year, so that gets you down to something like $12 million in dead money if they trade him instead of cutting him, and it's about $8 million if they trade him in 2013)

Tim Tebow will have to wonder what he did to piss off the almighty if his born again southern christian virginal starting QB ass gets sent to back up the Sanchise in NYC.

That goes way beyond smite... to sitcom.

When Sanchez gets of to a slow start, the mongoloid Jets fans will be screaming bloody murder for Tebow to be put in the game. Wonderful.

I'm not sure Tebow will be any worse than Sanchez. Both are checkdown QB's but at least Tebow can run. How can anyone be worse than Sanchez?

I hope Tebow can find a way to get it done but this news makes me sad because I never want to see the Jets do well. So now I have to root against Tebow.

Ehhh... I would trust Sanchez throwing the ball down the field slightly more than Tebow.

Plus the Pats seem to know how to defend Tebow pretty well.

Yeah, I'm shocked the Jags wouldn't give up a third rounder for him. From a financial standpoint alone, it's worth it.

I have no idea why the Jets would to this. Rex just can't help himself.

With all the games Tebow wills them to win, it will be more like a high 5th rounder.

This guarantees relocation for the Jags, right? They have no hope.

I'm trying to think of who would trade for Mark Sanchez at this point and if Rex Ryan is willing to hand his coaching fate over to Tim Tebow, whose style of play makes him prone to injuries and disaster games.

I have no idea how this will turn out, but the fire under Sanchez's butt has gotten white hot. Seriously, he was allowed to mess up because Mark Brunell was his backup. Now it's Tim Tebow, he has no leeway unless NYJ comes out and takes him out of the QB running immediately.

And the Jags not trading a third rounder for him is positively absurd. Gabbert was the worst QB in the NFL last year and Henne is coming off of an IR stint. Tebow would be their biggest draw ever.

Unfortunately, I do.

1. Who won the Super Bowl -- that is, who is on the map in NYC and who is not? Woody does not neglect the marketing side.

2. It's a superficial character transplant. For the press only. Even this guy is not up to cleaning that cesspool.

And it's very cynical. Ryan understands as well as anyone and better than most that gimmicks don't last. Hell, he made mincemeat out of Sparano's Wildcat while DC of the Ravens.

I feel badly for Tebow, who deserved better. I wanted him in JAX.

I think my favorite non-Patriots moment of the season was Tebow's TD to really hurt the Jets playoff chances, particularly because of Elway's subdued, slow-clap celebration as he realized he was stuck with Tebow for the time being. The fact that it has partly led to Tebow joining those very same Jets might make it one of my all-time favorite non-Patriots moments.

I think this is a fine move. It's hilarious, but a 4th round pick isn't that high a price to pay to find out if Tebow's vagina is really made of magic.
