In answer to the thread title - "Let's hope so" - or at least he should do something very childish in Ronaldo's shoes....

I'm hoping for a repeat of the Bowyer-Dyer on-pitch brawl, myself.

I know Ronaldo's going to have every thing you can think of yelled at him at away games, but I'm very interested to see how the home crowd will react to him.

I would pay money to see the two of them square off. I actually think that it was suggested by someone, with the proceeds going to charity.

I'd give the fight about 30 seconds with Rooney just straight killing Ronaldo or Rooney taking a swing, missing, and Ronaldo falling down anyways, rolling on the ground crying.

BBC Link

It'll be interesting to see what SAF does. They have failed to make a single transfer thus far and I'm hoping that they've just been waiting to settle the Ruud situation before making a few moves.

They've been linked with Torres a young Spanish striker that played very well in the World Cup. He plays for Athletico Madrid, but supposibly they don't want to let him go. I read this morning he has a press conference scheduled for tomorrow and you would have to think it would be to say he wants to stay in Spain.

ManU desparately needs midfield help though. Since Keane departed last year, they've failed to find some sort of reasonable replacement. They were rumored to be in in Carrick, but now Spurs is asking for 20million pounds.

With Ruud pretty much guaranteed to be on his way out, it might be a good time to introduce everyone to a kid that might be seen as his future replacement.

I also fully suggest everyone here on the board starts to hate him.

Why, well Giuseppe Rossi was born and raised much of his youth in NJ. His father is Italian, and moved the both of them to Italy where he could train and play for his native Italy.

Rossi doesn't want to play for his native United States. Personally, that pisses me off. Arena tried to call him up to play for the U.S. in a friendly against England, but he wouldn't budge.

He currently is tied to Italy because he played for them in a youth tournament. But because he hasn't been called to play for the Nat'l team yet, if he is capped by the United States before age 21, he can play for the U.S. Otherwise, he's Italy's.

Here's an article from last week with his comments on the matter....

Rossi Article

One problem for Rossi: Italy typically refuses to call up players playing outside of Italian Serie A.

Torres has announced that he will not be leaving Athletico this season. I'm not convinced by maybe that is just wishful thinking on my part.

Torres to stay

Bayern have said they are still €5m away from uniteds valuation of Van Nistelrooy, I wonder how long it will take before the two sides agree that throwing Owen Hargreaves into the deal would help bridge the gap.

I don't like the idea of Hargreaves replacing Keane since I don't think he's good enough but with Viera seemingly on his way to Inter and Spurs (or the spurs as SportsGuy calls them) holding out for £20m for Carrick (crazy) it looks like Hargreaves may well become the latest in a long if indistinguished list of players to try and fill Keanes boots. He can't do any worse than Kleberson or Djemba Djemba...

The Van Nistelrooy situation needs to be resolved very quickly though or its hard to see how United can start buying.

The latest transfer rumors with ManU after it appears they have sealed up Carrick is that they're making formal bids for Javier Mascherano and/or Carlos Tevez.

Mascherano is a stud DM from Argentiana who plays for Corinthians in Brazil, and Tevez is the young forward from Argentina who also plays for Corinthinans. Both players as of late seem to be at odds with the club.

I'd die to have Mascherano in the MF with Carrick and Tevez up top with Rooney but after spending anywhere from 15m-18m on Carrick, you have to figure nabbing both is highly unlikely. Being that their both very young, they would cost a load of cash.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

At odds? The Corinthians hooligans surrounded his car after their last game because he did the ol' "Tell his own fans to shut up" move ;)

I like Tevez. He's nuts, but he is a player. RVN can still play, but he has peaked- so it was the perfect time to sell. A quality forward trio of Rooney, Saha, and Tevez would take care of that position for a little while.

ManU need to buy two midfielders IMO. If they are serious about going after the Premiership, they have to hedge their bets against another Scholes injury.

I think getting Carrick is defenitly a good start. I like both of the Argentinian players, but like I said before, its a bit unrealistic to think they can buy both. Based on need, I'd defenitly go with Mascherano. He impressed me in the WC -- he's the type of player they needed to compliment Riquelme and give him free reign to attack.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I guess now the Carrick deal is official, that line-up can't happen. Sky sports reported this morning on their TV channel that united had agreed a fee for a Villareal midfielder. Not Riquelme however but Marcus Senna. I have not seen it reported elsewhere or on-line and sky are not carrying the news on TV any more.

I would not be overwhelmed by his signing but I think that is what we United fans can expect. I think Ferguson wants to got with three midfielders. One defensive either Senna or Mascherano (preferably), one attacking, Scholes, and Carrick linking everything.

Then 3 up top with Rooney and Ronaldo supporting the lone striker. At the minute that looks like Saha but I think they may go for Trezeguet. I dont like the idea of having Saha, Smith and Rossi as our striking options for next season.

We should try and move mountains to get Torres and Mascherano right now. I ain't too hopeful though...you just never know though...

Edit: Sky now have senna story on web.

Rooneys red card was a joke, the Dutch and English media have hammered the decision but he referee included the incident in his report so the English FA are oblidged to look at it. I doubt he will face a suspension from Premiership play. Scholes might though. Carrick out 3 weeks per skysports.

Senna due to sign by Wed and United are meeting WBA today to discuss Tomas Kruschak the goalkeeper who united have been chasing all summer.

United finally complete the signing of Thomas Kuszczak from WBA. They couldn't agree a long term deal so they have settled for a loan move with a view to a permanent deal. United have given up young Irish center half Paul McShane and goalkeeper prospect Luke Steele. Those players ahve moved on permanent deals

Kuszczak will back up VanDeSar for the season. With Howard on loan at Everton and top prospect Ben Foster now able to move to Watford on a season long deal United look set in nets going forward.

Foster should get a lot of practice this season with Watford in the premiership. It will be a great chance for him to improve and make a move for the United No1 shirt next season.

Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes will be able to play in the opener against against Fullham.

However, they will then both get a 2 week vacation, missing matches vs. Charlton, Watford, and Spurs for getting red cards against FC Porto in Amsterdam.

Rooney and Scholes to miss 3 matches.

Manchester United today lost their appeals against the red cards handed out to Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes during the pre-season tournament in Amsterdam.

I just turned on Sky Sports news to be greeted by this news. What a joke. Both will be back for the Arsenal game but slow starts in the past two seasons have killed us and this is not going to help one bit. Neither tackle was particularly nasty. Scholes was mistimed and looked bad but he didn't really catch the guy. Rooneys red card was a joke and this suspension is crazy. Whats the point in getting David Gill onto the FA board if he can't influence things like David Dein used to (obligitory cheap shot at Arsenal).

It's comments like that why ManU haters hate ManU. That was a GREAT start to the season. They blasted a pretty solid team at home, and were able to get a positvie start to the season for Saha, Rooney, and Ronaldo. If they are going to bang in the goals this season, those three are going to be the main pistons to the engine.

Its a no win situation. If I had said it was a great start people would be on here telling me it was only Fulham and not to act so cocky.

Personally I think Fulham will be right in the middle of a relegation battle, I think I even predicted that they would go down in the predictions thread.

I'm delighted with the start. However because Chelsea are as good as they are United really need to win their first 4 games so that they face Arsenal with maximum points. Anything else leaves them wide open to being left playing catch up 5 weeks into the season.

I suppose.

People love to hate ManU. In some ways, best thing to happen to them is Chelsea's emergence. It's gives them someone to share the hate, while forcing them to recognize that 1999 is over and it was time to overhaul the roster in earnest.

Personally I think Fulham will be right in the middle of a relegation battle, I think I even predicted that they would go down in the predictions thread.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I don't know how they'll finish, but I've been consistently unimpressed with their manager. If they get off to a terrible start, I see him being the kind of skipper who does nothing to right the ship.

I think the first five games are crucial in getting the proper I am unoriginal and unfunny. Please put me out of my misery for this squad. In order to make a run at the league, they will have to do it as one. Not just the players on the team, but everyone (Management, coaching, and fans). If they were to start off stumbling, then the homebase will start grumbling about Ronaldo's winking, Glazer's lack of glam purchases, Fergueson's age, etc.

Chelsea and Liverpool are too good for ManU to have in house distractions.

Another good result for United. Still a lot to do, negatives first Silvestre is a joke, Evra scares me all the time. Saha will infuriate all season with his first touch, glue wouldn't stick to that guy.

Positives, Heinze, Neville and Vidic should reduce Silvestre and Evras playing time to Carling Cup action and the odd run out. Sahas speed is a real plus over Ruud and he does have a knack of scoring goals.

We dominated tonights game without ever really creating a lot of clear cut chances in the first half. Giggs and Ronaldo both hit the woodwork though.

Second half was a walk in the park except for a ten minute spell between the first and second goals. It was also pleasing to see good football. Was a little disappointed with Ferguson though. At 1-0 he took Park off and brought Carrick on, instead of just switching Fletcher to the right he went 4-5-1. It's not right to turn into a defensive unit at Charlton 2 games into the season. Once we got the second he opened up again a little with Solskaer replacing Giggs.

Great to see Solskjaer back in the goals and Chelski losing is gravy. the start is so important this year and 2 from 2 with a plus 7 goal difference is quite impressive.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'm torn on this I have to admit. I would really like to get Hargreaves on board. I think he an carrick holding the midfield would allow Scholes, Ronaldo, Giggs, Rooney and Saha to cause havoc going forward. That said players now have so much power it has become a joke. A contract is no longer worth the paper it is written on. While we may be the beneficiaries this time how long before Ronaldo does the same thing to ensure he gets his move to Madrid.

Saha essentially did this three seasons ago in the January transfer window. Ferguson mistakenly thought we were still in with a shout and that a striker would take us over the top. He didn't and the cash we spent on Saha meant we then could not afford Robben in the summer. Robben had been shown around OldTrafford and look all set to join until United failed to up their bid by extra 1.5m.

I think we will get Hargreaves because Bayern can't really keep a player who has so publically declared he does not want to be there. I don't think its a good precedent to set though and I hope United fans remember this when Ronaldo asks out again next summer.

Four for four for the Devils. 1-0 over Sports Gal's Spurs. Giggs early in the first half. They have now survived the Rooney/Scholes red cards and netted 12 of 12 points. Now they start Champions this week with Celtic at Old Trafford and Saturday host Arsenal for an early Premiership dandy.

Carrick apparently played well against his old team and Saha continues to frustrate with lack of finishes. Wes Brown also reportedly stepping up. Can't wait until the FSC broadcast at 2:30pm.

Job done, four for four was the start we NEEDED. We get Rooney and Scholes back and we haven't dropped behind Chelski. Performance was not good but I'm not too concerned, we are a different team with Rooney. Brown and Carrick played well nothing special though. Evra had his best game in a united shirt thus far (not saying much I know). Saha is muck, he is not a good player, never has been nor will he ever be. He does have a knack of scoring goals thougha nd that may be all we need. This is rooneys team and we will go as he goes. Can't wait for next sunday agaisnt the gooners....

You know, I don't think Carrick really played well at all. He was pretty much abused by Jenas for big chunks of that game.

The lack of form by Spurs really killed them in this game...they just could capitalize at all. Mido missing a golden chance and what not.
