That has to be the worst 25-man roster the Sox ahve started a seaosn with since 2002
Really? Literally the only thing you can complain about is that the position player depth isn't enough to handle one of the stars going down. Except that basically happened last season when they got nothing out of Carl Crawford or right field, and yet they still had the best offense in baseball. There's no need to worry about the offense. It will be among the best in the majors, that you can be confident in.
If anything, it seems to me that Ben is trying to maintain a ton of depth where you need it the most. Pitching. Look at all of the talent on the roster or coming off the DL. You have four potential aces in Beckett, Lester, Buchholz, and Bard. You have potential league-average or better starters in Matsuzaka, Cook, and Padilla. You have some better than replacement level guys with potential in Aceves and Doubront. And you still have emergency starting depth in Tazawa and Miller. That's 11 starters right there. That will very likely get you through the season, and give you above average production on the whole. Is this not a ton of major league depth? All while $16M John Lackey is rehabbing for a year.
I see a lot of complaints about the bullpen, but you have your two excellent arms in Bailey and Melancon who get the high leverage innings, and plenty of depth behind them to handle the rest.
I've got nothing to complain about. If the Red Sox can field a team like this every year of my life, I know I'll see quite a few World Series championships in my lifetime.
