Josh Reddick, batting third in the order (in front of Cespedes) was hit in the back of his neck or his upper shoulder, then his jaw, by Mijares, Royals' relief pitcher, this afternoon. He lay on the ground for a while. but as it was a breaking ball, he was able to get up and walk back to the dugout. I, too, miss that kid. He looks more mature this year, which I guess isn't surprising. . .

I just missed him in Tucson. He struck out 9 in 6 innings the night before I went.

I was shocked to see all those strikeouts, I doubt he's ever had that many in consecutive starts. Would really suck if an improvement stuff-wise came at the cost of his elbow.

Weiland did pretty poorly tonight- 10 hits, 6 runs (all earned) 4 walks with only 2 strikeouts. He has a 8.44 ERA on the year

Kelly was scratched from making a start in Salt Lake City and was placed on the seven-day disabled list. The team described the move as precautionary.

Kelly has followed an impressive showing this spring with two strong starts for Tucson. He has a 2.25 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 12 innings this season. In spring, Kelly struck out 18 batters and walked only two in 20 2/3 innings. He finished with a 1.74 ERA in six games and impressed Padres manager Bud Black and pitching coach Darren Balsley.

But Kelly reported elbow tenderness after his last start on Wednesday. He was "OK" when examined in Tucson, Byrnes said. But the Padres want the right-hander to take an MRI and a have a checkup performed here by Padres doctors.

I watched Papebon close last night against the Giants. Ho hum game, 5 - 2 going into the ninth. He didn't do the side turn glare thing like he used to and he looked smooth and easy throwing. Up to 93 on the four seamer but with good horizontal movement. He looked like just a normal (good) reliever. Wasn't the Yankees in a one run game though. I miss the galoot.

I was watching the Astros game the other day and Lowrie made some spectacular plays ranging into the hole. One of them involved one of his arcing throws from the hole reaching first in time to beat out the speedy Tony Gwynn Jr. It was damned impressive.

Yeah it would be really cool, but I'm guessing the Sox give the authorities more than a few weeks to figure this out before splurging on a second ring for Lowe. I'm guessing the cost of a duplicate would be more than the original, given the fact that they aren't setting up to make multiples and the time constraint. That and I think Lowe could probably afford to have the exact ring made himself. We're not talking about an old timer here who made little in the way of a salary over the years and is living on a fixed income. Yeah it would be cool, but ....................
