In their last year together, Marshall had 104 receptions for 1265 yards and 6 TDs. If he and Cutler can put up anything close to that, it's a huge upgrade over 37 catch Johnny Knox who had a team-high 737 yards and 2 TDs.

Posted this in the news thread, but I wonder if this has any implications for the Manning situation
My initial take is they're clearing space for Peyton and Reggie.
Cutler and Marshall are now reunited.

Wonder if he wanted Marshall out of there if he was going to sign with them.

Talented dude who works well with Cutler; two third round picks seems like a low return for a guy who cost two 2nd rounders and a huge guaranteed deal when Miami got him a few years ago.

Maybe Wayne didn't.

Why would they give a shit about that?
Because maybe they would rather sign Wayne and have a potential inside track on Manning?

Yeah, I don't see it. Manning liked the idea of playing with a 27 year old freak WR, so you trade him in order to to sign a 33 year old WR in order to get the inside track on Manning? Ok.
I'm not saying Manning wont end up there, but I don't comprehend that thinking if Manning like Marshall like ESPN said.

There might not be a more frustratingly dysfunctional franchise in sports right now.

I can't fathom why they would send Marshall off for two third-rounders, just trying to think why they would possibly do this. I'm just glad he's out of the division.

As a Dolphins fan, I eagerly anticipate overpaying NFL backup Matt Flynn to the tune of $80 million and watching him throw to Davone Bess and Brian Hartline for the next 3 years.
There might not be a more frustratingly dysfunctional franchise in sports right now.
Don't worry. They get two extra third rounders and they'll draft the next Duper and Clayton.
Jesus Christ.

What's sad is had this been practically any other team I'd have eyebrows raised that something else was happening (ex: Manning, etc.)
But when your front office continually displays a staggering level of incompetence...

If they sign Winston to play RT, then their #8 pick can be used on a pass rusher
edit: Marshall is good, not great. He lead NFL in drops the last three years. He is an AWFUL red zone WR. But he did command safety help

We might be reacting the wrong way to "You'll see"... this could also end with "Punched Jake Long in the dick for whistling at his girl" or something of that ilk.
Well, we don't know but it's been strongly rumored that Marshall was the player who got into an altercation with Vontae "stinking of alcohol at practice" Davis.

That said, am I happy he was dealt? Initially, no. But I'll wait to see what's done with the additional cap space. It'll also be interesting to see what comes out the next few days concerning his locker room influence/behavior. A few of his teammates have taken their disappointment to Twitter, but I'm sure we'll hear a ton about him being a "head case". Whether or not it's bullshit, his past incidents (remember, he was stabbed by his wife last off-season) speak for themselves.
I'll be rooting for him in Chicago.

Two thirds for Marshall? My gut reaction is not enough value for a guy like Marshall.
If it's 3rd this year and another next year, it's more like a 3rd & a 4th for Marshall. After overpaying for the guy to begin with (to pair up with Henne), Phins lose out on this one.
If I am a Phins fan I am completely frustrated, and angry if Manning signs anywhere else but.

The idea that a draft pick this year is worth less than a draft pick next year is thrown around a lot. It's certainly true in that you can generally get someone to give you a draft pick next year that is higher than the draft pick you give them this year, but does it really make sense for evaluating the bounty in a trade? To take it to a logical extreme, if Pats traded Tom Brady for the Dolphins' next 20 first-round picks, would you say that they really ended up getting one 1st rounder one, 2nd rounder, one 3rd rounder, etc.?

According to a statement released by Marshall's attorney, the "incident" was a recent "melee" at a New York City club. The statement claims Marshall had no part in the fight, and that his wife was "struck in the face by a thrown bottle" as they attempted to leave. It's been nearly 11 months since Marshall's last "incident," his April 2011 stabbing at the hands of his wife. Mar. 14 - 12:14 am et

Here's his attorney's statement, I guess the NYPD is investigating Marshall and some friends for assaulting another guy. Note the ALL CAPS:
“On March 12,2012 Brandon Marshall was the key note speaker at a charitable event in New York. After the event was over he, his wife and close friends attended a function at a local club.
While at the function a fight broke out NOT involving Mr. Marshall or his friends. While attempting to leave to avoid the melee Mrs. Marshall was struck in the face by a thrown bottle. She suffered serious injury.
While attempting to leave and take his wife to the hospital, the mayhem continued outside. Finally Mr. Marshall was able to take his wife to the hospital where she was treated for serious injuries.
Mr. Marshall is hoping to assist authorities in regards to this matter.”

In theory, yes. In reality, if that's how future draft picks are valued, then it is how they are valued.
We see future picks (2 or more years ahead) traded at less value - i.e., 2nd round picks for this year's 1st. If that's how the GMs value the picks, not sure how they couldn't be counted as their "real" value in a bounty/haul.

Isn't saying a 3rd next year is equal to a 4th this year akin to saying that the money one gets from a payday loan is equal in value to what one eventually pays for it?
No. It's a shortcut for evaluation that basically represents what teams generally view as fair value based on trades that include picks.

Marshall has been accused of "slugging" a woman. Not sure if that was thing that the source was telling people to be patient about, but I would not be surprised if the accusation was part of the decision process of making the trade.
edit: The Bears made the trade despite knowing about the allegations. I guess that is why they got him for two third rounders. They must be confident that he won't see much discipline.
