Even in a hypothetical world where somehow their telegraphed point shots actually do get through, the strategy is stupid. Rebounds from point shots, it seems to me, are much more likely to bounce hard and far away from the crease area, whereas shots from closer in have a better chance to rebound close to the net in prime scoring position for someone. This is how Toronto scores like all of its PP goals - Kessel skates in from the half-board and fires his wicked wrist shot towards the net. It either goes in or bounces for an awesome rebound since he is, you know, closer to the net and the goalie has less time to react. Too bad we don't have any players with excellent skating, puck-handling and shooting ability who could pull this off.
