I know there is a thread for where he might bat, but this is the second time I've seen Ellsbury in the second spot. Too early to get nervous about it, but I wonder if indeed Bobby's thinking of moving him out of the leadoff spot. That's a RLRLRSWRRR lineup he has there, FWIW.

Cody Ross isn't hitting 3rd. If he is, he'll put up a hell of a season and I won't mind a Gonzo/Youk/Ortiz 4-6 THAT much (well, other than giving Ross more at-bats than to Gonzo and Youk), but yeah it's way too early. I also don't see Aviles hitting in front of Salty (unless he's hitting 2nd for some flukey or injury or rest reason) once the season starts.

Will be good to see both Miller and Melancon. Haven't watched too much of Miller - let's hope he doesn't copy Pap and take three hours in between each pitch. I don't think that was healthy for my heart.

I watched the Yanks-Phils game yesterday, and it was odd watching Pap take forever to throw the ball in a different uniform, but still against the Yankees.

Yeah; at least we won't have the complaints about how Sox-Yanks games take forever now. The source of 50% of that wasted time is now in the NL.

Another weird thing - apparently they're going to play Shipping Up To Boston when Bailey comes out for the 9th. I almost feel like its sacrilege, and I know it's going to be WEIRD at Fenway when I hear the song.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe says the Red Sox could "put on a full-court press" for Roy Oswalt late in spring training if they decide that they need to add a starter.
At the moment, the Sox are planning on having Daniel Bard and one of Alfredo Aceves, Andrew Miller, Vicente Padilla, Carlos Silva and Aaron Cook at the back-end of their rotation. But, plans could certainly change if that group struggles in spring training. Oswalt's agent has indicated that the veteran doesn't plan on pitching for anyone until midseason, and he's also seemed lukewarm to the idea of pitching in Boston. But, if the Red Sox would decide they really need him and go after him hard enough, he could change his mind. Mar. 4 - 10:18 am et

It's going to be Aceves at the back. I have no doubts in my mind. The guy was the second best pitcher for the Sox down the stretch last year.

While I think he is likely to be the best of the candidates, I would rather keep him in the bullpen until the other options (retreads who can opt out) are exhausted. Without Aceves, the bullpen is without a third reliable arm, making it extremely short until someone else steps up. Stick with Aceves in the bullpen until we see what we've got in the other rotation and bullpen candidates.

I watched the first inning and a half of the Astros-Nationals game since this game isn't starting till 1:30, and damn, Strasburg looks like he's back to 100%. The NL East could get really interesting this season.

Of the other four, statistically :

Cook - WAR: 1, FIP: 4.56
Padilla - (DNP 2011, stats from 10) .9, 4.43
Silva - (DNP 2011, stats from 10), 2.1, 3.75
Miller - .2, 5.12

Clearly, Silva is the statistical best choice, and I think he should be the guy they originally try to integrate into the rotation. However, he may not be able to get back to '10 levels, which is why its necessary to have the other guys. Who do you guys think will take the spot?

At this point I'm all set on Oswalt. I was really into him pitching for Boston, but after watching him act more coy than a fourteen year old girl at a debutante's ball I'm over him. I'm sure he'd be better than any of the other #4 or #5 options the sox have, but I'm sick of this crap. Take the fair contract offered, be thankful for still being able to make money playing a game, or just retire.

Our Team does ceremony better than any others. Watching Looie, Dwight, Jim Ed and The Captain walking in from what looks like The Wall makes a guy well up. It is my birthday today and that, my friends, was a great present from the Old Towne Team

This game seems unfair. The Sox are playing a majority of their starters, and clearly, the Twins are not. Then again, it is Josh Beckett.

It's a Twins split squad. The other half of their team is playing the Rays.

It's nice that NESN has the radar gun readings. Most games I see on MLB.tv in spring training don't seem to.

Maybe, but Ray Chang probably gave the Twins a solid scouting report on the Sea Dogs players.
