Color me as someone who is looking forward to seeing which of these guys step up in 2012. None of them are far away and while none project to be big stars they all should contribute this season. And even though I still hold out a glimmer of hope for Bowden, I don't expect him to be with the Sox when they open the season.

SS Iglesias
3B Middlebrooks
C Lavarnway
Felix Doubront
Junichi Tazawa

You know it's spring training when you look to yesterday's B game to justify the excitement you feel when Iglesias gets a hit off a college pitcher.

I don't think the mercy rule really applies though. If you are a kid playing for NE, wouldn't you relish the opportunity to play against the pros, even if they beat the crap out of you? Just to say that maybe you got a hit off a Matt Albers, or struck out Sweeney?

It's 17-0 and the NE kids would be the ones most pissed off if they stopped playing.

Yup, could be -- for the one (or two) guy(s) who get the hit or SO -- and the rest may be tougher than I give them credit for. As for me, I plead guilty by empathic association -- as a teacher who teaches kids at this level and who play BB at this level I just know too many of them not to feel a certain sense of protectiveness. By and large they are a good group -- and still kids in school. But yes -- you have nailed the other side of the coin.

Jerry tried to class himself up by referring to himself as Jeremy.

Meanwhile Jean Yawkey turns around in her grave.

I certainly hope you're right. I've always liked Aviles.

The Sox have had some rather harsh criticism of Doubront's work ethic last year. They're obviously sending a message.

LOL at the George Hamilton comparison... because I thought the same thing.

McClue didn't mince any words about Dubront's not taking conditioning seriously last year.

I like how NESN is showing statistics with no context whatsoever. Are those numbers from AAA, AA, A+, college, high school...?

Maybe Linares was late to the park or something. Or maybe they wanted to see Lin against a lefty. Who knows?
