Currently has 39 points and is -24

No sir. Top-5 cap hit in the league for a guy who's broken 40 goals once in his career and is signed for 6 more seasons?
His lack of trade value in the cap world is going to surprise a lot of people IMO.
He has a 40, a 41, and a 38 goal season.

He's a great player. He'd look awesome on Krejci's right, particularly if Horton's out long-term.Seriously, PSK - I love you like a terrorist brother..but really?
Dude put up 40 goals on COLUMBUS. With Krejci or Seguin centering him he goes back to being a 40/40 kind of guy over night.
His contract isn't great, but this team has a lot of good contracts, and a lot of players coming up on ELC's that give us the flexibility to add someone like him.
But if he's on the roster, you're going to have to say goodbye to one of Marchand/Seguin/Lucic in a little over a year. it's as simple as that.

So you should feel the same way about Ovechkin then correct? He has been on par with Nash the last two years now and has a way worse contract. No sir. Top-5 cap hit in the league for a guy who's broken 40 goals once in his career and is signed for 6 more seasons?

That sounds like the Ilya Kovalchuk argument all over again. How did that work out? And Rick Nash is no Ilya Kovalchuk. He has been on a bad team for his entire career which has had one good season since he has been there. If you put him with a playmaking center he is a 40 goal scorer in this league.

If that is indeed the case, goodbye Lucic. You basically upgrade from Looch to NashHe's a great player. He'd look awesome on Krejci's right, particularly if Horton's out long-term.

Rick Nash is overrated.
Has never had an 80 point season
Currently has 39 points and is -24
Pass.
Because the difference between 79 points and 80 points makes him not valuable, yea?

Rick Nash is a different player than Kovalchuk. Kovalchuk has too much Russian hockey in himThat sounds like the Ilya Kovalchuk argument all over again. How did that work out? And Rick Nash is no Ilya Kovalchuk.

Ovechkin had 85 points last year. Nash 66. It's closer this year, but Ovechkin's got him 45-39 at this point, playing in less games.

In fact, I do. It's not the NBA where stars are the only way to win a championship - look at the cap hits on Boston and Detroit: one big long-term contract commitment that isn't really that huge and is the most important player on the team (Chara/Lidstrom). Adding Nash significantly upsets that cap structure and would lead to a lot more cap trouble than he's worth as a player IMO.So you should feel the same way about Ovechkin then correct? He has been on par with Nash the last two years now and has a way worse contract.

With Horton and Thomas coming off, and Savards LTIR, you can make it work. Especially if in the next two years you're bringing up Knight, Hamilton, and having Khudobin backing up Rask

Well, it's not like the other lines are scoring either.Haven't complained about this in a long time but why is the fourth line out there in this situation??
I didn't mind them out there, could have done without the 1:30 length of the shift though.

Fair enough, but Ovechkin has been surrounded by offensive talent his whole career in Washington compared to Nash

The difference between the two, given the total package, is not that big IMO - and certainly isn't worth $3.7m in cap space. If that is indeed the case, goodbye Lucic. You basically upgrade from Looch to Nash

I'm too angry to think right now, but I'll try and add something to the cap sitch thread tonight about why I'm so against adding Nash. With Horton and Thomas coming off, and Savards LTIR, you can make it work. The most disappointing thing to me is that the last 5 hours I spent watching the Bruins would have been better spent dripping wax on my eyeballsThe most disappointing thing to me is that the Bruins dropped the last two games against teams that were playing on the second half of a back-to-back.
And normal balls.

Olczyck saying he was letter perfect was absolutely right. He stopped every single shot the Bruins put on his letters.
This team needs player leadership once again, and when your lead by example only captain is not playing particularly well, there is a vacuum. We've seen this before. Also, they are playing the Jets and Wild and 'Canes version of game 7 every time out.
But man, they can't finish for shit right now.

You can argue about the contracts, but Ovechkin and Nash simply aren't the same players. Even shitty Ovechkin outplays 95% of the league.
Last two years:
Ovechkin: 56+74=130 points in 134 games.
Nash: 50+55=105 points in 133 games.
Last three years:
Ovechkin: 106+133=239 points in 206 games.
Nash: 83+89= 172 points in 209 games.
The difference is 67 points over the last three years, which includes two true Ovechkin down seasons... and that difference is STILL Nash's highest point total from this span. And the gap only widens from here... Since Ovechkin joined the NHL, he has topped Nash in points every season. There has never been a season where Rick Nash scored more goals than Ovechkin, either.

My point was never to say that Nash was better player, he's not. But ovechkins contract is worse than Nash's and the production comparatively with the contract is even in dissapointment I believe. At least with Ovie's last two years. You can argue about the contracts, but Ovechkin and Nash simply aren't the same players. Even shitty Ovechkin outplays 95% of the league.
