The Road to Omaha -- 2012

I've never seen a game where there were more clearly two different strike zones for two different pitchers. What Tyler Webb got and what Baxendale got were completely different. Plain and simple. The final pitch in the walk to Matthews that gave them the third run was better than any of the called strikes that Matt Price got as well. Two out situation, should have been a backwards K.
But to Greiners credit, he sticks close pitches about 300% better than the Arkansas catcher. So that kid didn't do you any favors with his glove, you can't ole' close pitches and his glove was always moving around. Having said that, I think catchers framing and sticking gets more credit than it deserves. A good ump should be making his mind up when the pitch crosses the zone, not a second later when its in the glove. This ump clearly had issues with pitches that moved.

Having said that, good 3 year run by SC, Roth, and Price. Arizona was the better team, deserved National champs. The more I watch this the more I like the format. Two 4 team double elims, with a best of 3 final. Winning makes it an easier path, but coming out of the losers bracket, while harder, isn't impossible. Games are spaced out enough so pitching rotation and depth are realistic. The NCAA gets this tournament right, IMO.
