There's nobody else who could possibly honor the 100th year of baseball at Fenway like the Dentist. He's like The Wolf.

You aren't looking forward to the Boston Police Department Band dressed as the Royal Rooters
marching up Commonwealth Avenue and then meeting the Dropkick Murphys in Centerfield to all sing "Tessie"? I am wearing my tophat to the game.

Papelbon leaving stung.
Tito and Theo saying good bye stunk.
Nick Punto: Starting Shortstop is going to be a daily suckfest of Grebeckian performances.
But this news is the worst of all. The hokiest, most tone-deaf charlatan to call Lansdowne Street home is back for the attack. Today, my friends, is the nadir. We have hit the bottom.

I'm not excited about this, but I'll point out that there were leaks and stupid brick sales last year as well. So I don't think it will matter much. Hopefully the 100th anniversary thing will be somewhat tasteful.

I wasn't saying that it would be. But maybe (and hopefully) cooler heads of management will prevail.
And what, exactly, has Steinberg ever done that struck anyone here as "tasteful"? The man is a ham-handed hack. That's the main reason so many of us were happy to see him leave and are aghast he's been brought back.

The Red Sox clearly would have won more than two titles during Steinberg's tenure if he wasn't distracting us all with silly and tasteless PR.I wasn't saying that it would be. But maybe (and hopefully) cooler heads of management will prevail.
We survived the first time, people should probably relax. But that wouldn't be SoSH.

not that Nomar's number should be off the market, but there's a certain irony in the whole, searching for a SS since Nomar situation, finally having a reliable one in Scutaro, salary-dumping him and being back to square one.Papelbon leaving stung.
Tito and Theo saying good bye stunk.
Nick Punto: Starting Shortstop wearing number 5 is going to be a daily suckfest of Grebeckian performances.

Remind me how many World Series the Sox won with the Dentist working for them?
And how many they've won in the past 90 years without him?

Causation, yadda yadda?I spot a logical fallacy at work here.

I think the point that Lose is making, and that I was making less directly above, is that the guy has nothing to do with winning and losing. As a result, it's hard for some of us to understand the level of vitrol and angst being expressed here. I agree that some of his stuff is corny and over the stop, and that Cashman song was indeed awful. But for me at least, that the Sox will likely have Nick Punto or Mike Aviles at short on opening day is infinitely more worrisome and annoying than what number Punto will be wearing or how the Fenway 100 is celebrated.I spot a logical fallacy at work here.
Steinberg had nothing to do with the World Series titles whatsoever, unless he was the guy who convinced Theo to trade Nomar.

According to the conventional wisdom around here, the Red Sox FO managed to leak information just fine without Steinberg around when they dumped manure all over Francona. If he really was a big source of leaked information, that could have an impact on the front office's ability to conduct its business which actually could impact winning and losing. He's not a key component in roster construction by any means, but to suggest he can't impact winning and losing is a bit short sighted, IMO.

I certainly understand the need for ballpark promotions and PR. But Steinberg's efforts in that area here were not encouraging, to say the least.
