Gammons

Scott Bradley reports Ross Ohlendorf signed with Red Sox. With Miller, Bard highest Staff IQ

B-Ref page

He's 29 and missed most of last season with shoulder issues, pitching 7 games in the minors and making 9 starts for Pittsburgh, where he'd been pitching since arriving from the Yankees in the mid-2008 Marte/Nady trade. His control's been pretty decent, but last year batters just teed off on him (60 H and 9 HR in 38.2 IP). The Pirates released him in December.

I figure these guys really aren't worth their own thread:

Other non-roster invitees whom I did not realize were in #redsox org: P Doug Mathis, OF Jason Repko, IF Pedro Ciriaco

They have also added Mauro Gomez, a power hitting 1st baseman from the Braves AAA Team..... He had 24 HR, 90RBI's a .552SLG and led the International League in total bases.

Seems like a decent move for DH/1B depth at Pawtucket and the guy is only 27 or so years old.

Already being discussed: http://sonsofsamhorn...an-mauro-gomez/. As that thread is on the first page of this forum still, we probably don't need to discuss the move here too.

From rotoworld (http://rotoworld.com.../ross-ohlendorf):

"Ross Ohlendorf (back) has been cleared to throw batting practice Saturday for the first time this spring."

The jokes write themselves.
