there are times I wish this wasn't in my blood...thank god I have a lot of friends on the Irish Riv PD, there is a big baseball game coming up in a couple weeks, Hingham @ Scituate, am inept footballl coach may get an earful

Why is this such a surprise? Isn't this typical GDF maneuvering? Hey the kid wasn't going to contribute, he is taking up roster space...let's see, oh ya, fuck him, create a controversy and dump him. What did he do, tell Gene he was a little shit? Good for him. I hope he goes somewhere like, say Va Tech and runs crazy on the Eagles next season. I really hope he comes back to haunt that prick. GDF has got to go.

My brother was going to go to West Point and I was going to meet him and some frineds in Chicago for the Northwestern game....I think the plans may be changing. Who would follow this team after all this. They need a house cleaning in the worst way.

He graduates, tells them he wants to pursue a new area of study which takes him away from Coach Sadface, and gets the Larry Lucchino treatment.

The good news is that Gene's been exposed at this point. No one believes the admin at all.

And we all know the certain coach won't miss it under any circumstance like, you know, promote the program. Ever to excel baby. Ever to excel.

Anyone want to get in on some "FIRE GENE" t-shirts that look like Superfan shirts? I want one for next season but buying a single shirt is a bit cost prohibitive for something the Gestapo will probably take from me before the end of the first quarter of the first game.

Along the same lines, my buddy forwarded me a copy of his season ticket renewal the other day, and he had listed 'fire Gene and Spaz" under "special requests" on the electronic form. Personally, I think just not renewing the tickets would be a better form of protest...but it would be pretty great if a couple thousand people did the same thing he did.

Coop, as I sat here last night steaming over the latest moves by our 'brain trust' I noticed the ticket renewal package still sitting where I'd tossed it upon arival

I took the Flynn Fund donation card, wrote in nice big black letters, FUCK YOU GENE on it, and sealed the envelope..I hope that the mailroom passes this along

I understand your anger, but I think you will renew those tix Moose. It's like your crack. You can swear it off but when they put those things in front of you, you can't resist. You need a friggin' 12 step program, as well as about 25,000 other people. People should talk with their pocketbooks and not go to the games this year, including SBCC. If they are getting 35-40,000 a game and banging out the place for ND, what message are they receiving. Every game should look like the crowds for the Maine game. Until that happens and it really hits them in the wallet, nothing will change there.

I never renew early, you guys know where I work and the fact that I can get tickets for any game usually on the arm, shit I had edmonds parking passes (10k flynn fund donation) for 3 games this year for nothing

I buy to support the guys wearing the uniform, thats why I di last year, this year even with SBCC, Clemson and VPI on the home schedule, i'll wait a long time, not to mention the great deals that you get for re-uping in the spring, only to see tickets dumped on groupon for 1/4 face

so after reading Blauds' article in el Globo this morning, I sent him and email and got a reply

stop replaying the bull that those over their head frauds Spaz (peter
principle in action) and GDF feed you

Spaz was a top DC for years and never ever even got an interview for
a HC job anywhere, no one throws players under the bus faster then he
does

is the real reason that spring practice started in early Feb and
ended in late March because Spaz wanted to spend the spring not
recruiting but watching his son play baseball for Hingham ?

I'm a born and bred BC guy, and I'm disgusted in the direction that
Head Coach GDF and his puppet Spaz have moved us in

What are the odds that Spaz gets canned at the end of this 4-8 (and
thats a long shot) season and GDF appoints his son as HC? Gene's
master plan

The best college venue to see a game, even if the product on the field isn't what it once was. On Friday go to the West Point Military history museum which is on 9 just south of WP. Excellent museum to see how West Point played a major role ini the military history of this country. Take in the parade on the plain the morning of the game....very impressive. Garrison Golf club is across the Hudson in Garrison if you want to hit the ball. Great views of the academy from across the Hudson. FDR museum and homestad is up the road in Hyde Park. Very interesting place.

Enjoy the weekend, you won't regret it.

I grew up there. It's a great venue to see a game and has some of the most picturesque tailgating available. If you need any advice on tailgating spots, etc. don't hesitate to send me a DM.

Reid Oslin, former SID at BC during the 70s, 80's and 90's (the days before the Godfathahh) and more recently an officer in the school's public affairs department retired this week after more than 40 years at the school. When my father, a BC grad, was seriously ill many years ago, Reid sent him a book about BC football. My dad read that thing cover to cover in about 3 days. He passed away about a month later. It was very thoughtful of Reid to do that and meant a lot to my dad. I know it is pollyana to think that but those things used to be done all the time at BC by Reid and his staff. It was before money and ESPN and the pressure to excel and try to be a big time player overtook all aspects of the sports department. Now, the program and other similar programs across the country are so different that the personal touch that connects people to programs are a distant memory.

Good luck on your retirement Reid. Well deserved and a big Thank You, 25 years later for an act of kindness to a dying man. It meant a lot to him, and to his sons. Ever to excel!

Bernie - nice story.

I hope Montel puts up huge numbers. I love that his head coach was turned down for Spaz' job and that Spaz punched his OC out of town.

I asked a couple of legitimately loyal ($$$) passionate long term BC fans who are far more the whalepants type than I am (meaning they tend to back whatever the administration would say) and they all agreed you basically have to root for this team to win 2-3 games this season or else you're looking at the program going further in the toilet.

Supposedly he never intended to come back for his 5th year, waited for the school to apply for the 5th year and then graduated and once he'd qualified immediately told them he was leaving for another school for his 5th year, when Gene and Spaz immediately threw him off the team for numerous violations. Again, internet scuttlebut, but exactly the way that Gene conducts business at BC.

Yeah, he basically told the 2 stooges to suck it, which is why he'll forever be one of my favorite BC players. Of course, Gene/Spaz had to go the Lucchinoian route and trash him on his way out. Maybe it's an Italian thing.

Umm ... that's not what happened. He legitimately violated team rules.

Spaz and Gene have been terrible but it does crack me up how everyone wanted anoint Day as some sort of genius and yet he never showed anything whatsoever during his time at BC. Oh wait ... he called the fake during a meaningless bowl game one year.

Will be an interesting year nonetheless.

Yeah Ryan Day was Gene Ds Golden boy, yet everyone who hates Gene D loves Day.

In terms of Montel, I had heard the same thing, there were definite violations. Now it is also true he basically had no intention of returnng, and it seems more or less quit the footbal program in February. I hope the kid gets healthy, but honestly I'll be rooting for a 4 win season for the Owls.

I can't wait for camp to start so we can see some stories about how things are going. Will Rettig step up and take his game up a level with the new OC, or will he lose his job. There is talk of the OC wanting to throw 40+ times a game. Which of the RB triumverate will win the starting job (is Andre Williams actually healthy again finaly). There is finally some talent, experience, and depth at WR, will one or two of them take their game up a level. Can they actually catch some good fortune on the injury front this year

I know he did but Gene/Spaz still handled the situation poorly. Should have just let him transfer when it was readily apparent that he no longer wanted to be on the team. And I don't blame him. He had to deal with these 2 losers for 4 years.

As for Day, who cares? I never understood the excitement around him.

Well, they announced the violation the day he became eligible to transfer. Amazing coincidence. Career leading rusher. Christ, the Hen handled Russell Wilson better.

As for Ryan Day, I don't care about him. Dime a dozen. But the OC last year got punched out and this was apparently acceptable.

I have never believed for a second that Rogers was punched out. He freakin deserved it, and he deserved being handed his walking papers week 2, but I just don't buy that Spaz hit him. That would have left BC way to liable, and no way Spaz would have survived that incident.

What is really interesting about this offseason is the buzz around the offense and I think this is all Martin's doing. I can't remember the last time that BC had 2 decent rated WRs wrapped up so early in the process with a bigtime athlete waiting in the wings to potentially flip to BC (from UCF).

I think I say this every year but this will be a fascinating year. I just hope it goes one way or the other. Either a huge upward surprise or crash and burn. I can't take 6-6 and remain in neutral.

For those of you who have been frustrated by the offense in recent years, you will at least see something different. If not no huddle it will definitely be "up tempo" with lots of movement and shifting. Martin has also said that Pantale "can play in the NFL". I think many of us thought he has been underutilized for some time now.

I am not necessarily optimistic, rather, like Merlin I am really intrigued about what we will see this year with so many (seemingly positive) coaching changes.

Dave - you make an interesting point, Phil Steele made a point the other day on his blog that it bugs him when a new coaching staff comes into place and always says they're running an up-tempo offense and aggressive defense. What else would they say? We're going to be slow and boring?

Agreed it would be nice to go 2-10 or 9-3 and know either things are on the upswing or we're finally ride of Spaz (and probably Gene).

I don't know what about Rogers had him deserving to be punched, I haven't heard that story, but when a reporter who isn't protected by the Boston media (Bruce Feldman) comes out and says Spaz crossed the line with Rogers, I believe it.

Plus, if Rogers was so worthless why did Ryan Day follow him to Temple? Why did Montel?

I don't really care about Rogers anymore but that was the whole point about my dig at the stooges with respect to Montel. Clearly, something happened with Spaz and Rogers but Gene/Spaz decided to lie to protect the image of the school/program. Fine, whatever. Then, something happens with our 21/22 year-old all-time leading rusher but this time they decided to trash his image as he exits the program when they could have easily let bygones be bygones and given some tame press release.

Gene and Spaz are two petulant buffoons and they're the cloud that continues to hang over this once-respectable program.

Ryan Day was hired at Temple before Rogers was hired as an underling to Day. Why did Montel follow? Well he decided he was done at BC, and it seems decided to shoot himself out of town to some degree. .And schools weren't exactly lining up for a slow between the tackles runner who had 3 knee injuries in the past 18 months, and had 2 months earlier pronounced himself unfit for Spring practice. My understanding was it was basically Temple with Day, or Rutgers with Dave Brock and Rutgers had a loaded depth chart at RB

In terms of Martin, sure maybe all coaches say that. But there is definitely something different this year. The comments from all recruits has just been outstanding, even some who chose to go elsewhere were effusive in praise of the staff and the atmosphere.

Hopefully that will lead to better results on the field, and more recruiting wins

I guess the point is if Montel was such a disaster at BC with all these rules violations that made it such that Head Coach DeFillippo and his sidekick couldn't handle having one of the great backs in the history of the school stick on - why did the two coaches who knew him best (Day and Brock) both go after him? Seems if he was such a bad kid they'd have stayed away, knowing him and all.

I think this was punishment for telling them to pound sand. I bet he acted up a bit, no doubt, but the adults acted like children. Just like every other health issue that has forced coaches who may have deserved to be let go on their own accounts out the door - handling it in the lowest common denominator fashion.

As for Rogers, again if he was such a nightmare why does Ryan Day with his big opportunity to call plays go out and hire the guy...doesn't make sense he's incompetent. Just doesn't. I don't know what Spaz didn't like about him.

As for recruiting, it's interesting. Totally shut out in MA except for the QB Lowrie. But cleaning up in CT and OH. Not sure what that means. I figure Bollman has helped out in OH and supposedly Al Washington is doing a nice job, but I think Siravo handles CT and he's been there for some of the bad recruiting years.

Hopefully next season its talking about Chase and the chance for 10 wins.

Let me know when they get an athletic WR who is being recruited by something other than MAC level schools. Otherwise I'm assuming most of them are the same snooze-fest of slow WRs we've always had - minus maybe Colin Larmond. I suppose to be fair Coggins was supposedly athletic pre-injury but its been 10 months now since the ankle injury and no one has seen enough to want him.

Montel, by all reports other than the head clown, is a great guy. I was one class year ahead of him ('10) and knew two people my senior year who worked with him at Hillside (one of the dining facilities) - they both said he was one of the nicer people around. That comports with everything else I heard about him while he was there and anectdotally at least - he always was present in classes (which is more than you can say for most of the players). Montel did what he had to to get the 5th year waiver and he told the clown cabal he was out and they got mad. Gene, being the petulant child that he is, felt that he needed to trash him on the way out. Oh, I'm sure that he did break team rules - he was not going to spring meetings/practices - but this is par for the course for players looking to transfer. But Gene is feeling the heat now and he cannot seperate himself from his inner clown (notice how no separation with BC athletics is EVER pretty - they are always ugly or bizarre or both).

If last season's shittastic performance was not enough, Gene had to follow it up with this ridiculousness. Oh well, I pretty much decided after Gene's comment about he doesnt care about what the alumni think that I wasnt going to give money anymore. If he doesn't care, well then he doesnt need my money. I dont need to continue supporting his 4/5 million dollar deal. Maybe I'll go to one or two games this year but thats it and its depressing that this is what it has come to.

Monteroso is a really interesting guy, fantastic athlete. He is a dominant HS basketball player as well, and I wouldn't bet against him in a slam dunk contest on campus (including the basketball team), as he is a more athletic SG type than the CPt tends to like.

Coggins we will see supposedly Bama, Clemson and others were recruiting him before the injury, but his speed hasn't come back, so the big boys haven't returned.

Hopefuly they can land Dionte Taylor who has been speaking very highly of BC since the start, as he is picking up big offers now (Nebraska)

in terms of mikcou's original post Colin Larmond Jr certainly fits the bill. Big time athlete with size and speed. BC beat out all the Big East teams plus Michigan St and Georgia Tech among others for him. Swigert had offers from most of the Big 10 (not OSU), most of the Big East, Stanford. Coleman had offers from Penn St and Vandy

in even more important BC related news:

The Stockyard, a steak house off the Massachusetts Turnpike in the Boston neighborhood of Brighton, has closed its doors, for now, and may have been sold to new owners.

If BC Football wasn't so depressing, I would ask whether there are any Penn State players that are logical poaching targets for 2012. Maybe the ability to come to a major conference program that hasn't been nuked and start right away might be appealing to someone there?

They had a kid decommit from BC and commit to PSU when O'Brien was hired in State College. They are not at the 85 man limit so they could try to grab some kids, but who knows. See the article below concering the ACC generally and BC as it relates to the PSU scavenger hunt:

Camp opens in about 2 weeks. With that in mind, Let's start turning the attention to football. Unfortunately the outlook is not good. Bear in mind where the program has been. Coming into this season, the Spaz era has produced the following:

1. 19-19 overall record;
Of that, 6 wins are against FCS or MAC schools
Against FBS opponents(non MAC) they are 13-19 (.407 winning pct.);

2. Of their 13 FBS non MAC wins, only 4 in 3 years have been against teams that ended the season with winning records;

3. 0 wins against any ranked opponents;

4. 2-16 when trailing at halftime (.111 winning pct);

5. 3-9 versus FSU (2 wins), Clemson(1 win), Va Tech (0 wins) and SBCC (0 wins);

6. 0 bowl wins

You would think that it has to get better but I am not overly confident they can do much better than 3-9. Hope I am wrong. This is make/break year for Rettig but I don't know what he has for real weapons. Hopefully this is it for Spaz but the problem is GDF is still around and he will make the next HC hire...so far he is 0-2. Time to strap in your seatbelts....its gonna be a bumpy ride.

We're a team with mediocre talent and a horrible coach. I'll watch because I'm a sucker for BC sports but I'm not expecting more than a .500 season.
