Varying opinions on this in other threads. To me it's got to be on Welker. Not a perfect throw but that's a catch that NFL receivers make every week.

No offense, but just wondering what purpose this serves. It's like choosing between drinking Drano or weed killer.

Was not a perfect throw. But a catchable ball. Both hands on it, and even though he was in an awkward position, that is a catch NFL wide receivers have to make.

Brady threw the ball right into Welker's hands. Not a perfect throw, but it should have been made, it hit him in the hands. But Welker didn't cost this team the Superbowl.

I voted for Welker, the pass wasnt perfect but a NFL WR should make that catch.

It's Welker's fault. What kind of question is this? Hit both of his hands when they were six inches apart. What does he want, a fucking handoff?

Fair or unfair this is going to be the most discussed play of XLVI. Just want to see how people here saw it. Not looking to put salt in any wounds.

Hard not to blame Welker when the ball hits his hands. The MFG (yes, they deserve an acronym) catch those when it counts to beat us, CATCH THE FUCKING BALL.

Should've been a better throw, but if you want to win the Super Bowl - you've got to make that catch.

Both deserve some criticism for the incompletion. Brady overthrew him, but Welker stopped his route short just a bit to where the overthrow happened. Welker should have made the play, but Brady made it very difficult for him to catch it.

The real tragedy about Buckner in '86 was that such a great player was going to have that one play associated with his career for the rest of his life. It rendered everything else he ever did before or after it in his career almost meaningless. I love Welker. Great guy, great teammate, great player. But that drop....it's his legacy here. And that's unfortunate.

throw was to the wrong shoulder. And he missed Branch twice, both on that drive and on the Hail Myra drive.

Brady put that one where he wanted to; he was leading Welker away from the defender. Welker didn't catch it. More importantly, however, was both lines for the Giants dominating the LOS in the4th quarter.

Could have caught it, could have been a better throw. Also could have stopped the Giants on the ensuing drive. Lots of missed opportunities that could have changed the game. Ultimately, who cares. Whats done is done. If blaming Welket makes you feel better, go for it, but I'm sure he wanted to catch it and wanted to win more than fans like us did.

Well anyone who really knows what happened in '86 knows Buckner is not all to blame and in this case its even more so not all on Welker. The very next play if Deion Branch sits in a fucking hole then he picks up the first or if Brady had the balls to lead him or throw it over that LB than they pick up the first roughly at the same spot.

AND even more importantly Welker has plenty of time to redeem himself and I believe will.

I couldn't agree more about why Brady threw it the way he did, he had a choice to set Welker up for a big hit after the catch or give him the chance to make a good catch. I don't know if I completely agree with the Patriots O-line getting dominated in the 4th, Brady had his chances. The Pats D-line on the other hand got very little pressure especially up the middle to move Eli of his mark

If you have the stomach, watch the replay. Brady pulled a bunch of magic escape acts in the 4th just to have a chance to make a play.

Ball hits one just one outstretched hand? it's the QB's fault.

Ball hits both of the receivers hands - and he can see the ball? it's his fault.

Brady's throw to Welker was exactly like Eli's throws to all of his receivers most of the time: high but extremely catchable. Eli almost always errs on the high side, but it's no problem with his receivers. They go up and get it, Wes didn't.

Start a poll on the safety. That wasn't Brady's fault either. Where was the checkdown, or safety valve guy? I have to go back and look, but I don't think there was any receiver close by for him to even throw near his feet. He had to either get rid of the ball somewhere or eat it in the end zone...safety either way. That safety was on some receiver or the coach that drew up the play.

I agree with the first part, but disagree with the second. Brady had enough time that he could have either 1) moved out of the pocket before throwing it away, 2) thrown it in the vicinity of a receiver downfield, or 3) thrown it away before he was under pressure. However, I still don't ever remember seeing a safety called in that situation - he looked like he threw the ball directly over Branch's head (by like 10 feet), which is normally close enough to a receiver to get the call, and it's not like he was in the grasp or anything...

To me, it's Welker. Was it a perfect pass? Of course not. Was it a catchable pass? Of course. If Welker is supposed to be an elite WR(I think he is), then he has to catch that ball. Brady could have led him, but Welker got both hands on the ball and failed to execute.

I'll meet you anywhere w/in the I-495 belt tonight to spark up a vessel of understanding and enlightenment. Everything will be OK if you let it happen, el capitan. :-)

When the Pats and Brady were winning superbowls, they employed a deep threat and a running game. Both have been missing for some time, not to mention a stiff defense up to the task. Assume Gronk was 100% today - where was the deep threat? The running game? The defense?

If the offense does its job, we win. It's that simple. The defense played as well as we could have hoped given the personnel we have on hand.
