I vote reverse. Hernandez in the backfield, pitch sweep left to him then he pitches on a delay to Edelman going end around. The pitch to Hernandez sends the D-line running sideways instead of pursuing up field, Gronk lines up as right TE, motions to the left side, fakes a block, then pulls right to take out the D-end with reverse pursuit obligations. 22 yard gain. Book it.

Hopefully none of the above, we beat them straight up running our normal offense. Not interested in having to rely on any high-risk, high-reward gadgets in the Super Bowl.

Ah the old "Welker Option Route" trick!

Honestly, I do kindof want to see at least one actually unusual play. possibly early in the second half, if only because I think that would mean that Belichick/Brady are trying to take advantage of a situation where the Giants have keyed in on something because we're beating them with it. Like, if BJ-GE is having good success marching us down the field, then that would mean that a flea-flicker might catch them totally keying on the run. Or, a fake punt because the Giants will assume we'd play it safe to just protect a lead with field position. Something like that.

(note: those are not predictions or anything, it's just a thought process)

I'm not against any play when the situation calls for it, but some of the options are plays from desperate teams or teams that feel they need to use such gadget plays to overcome a perceived disadvantage. I'd rather we just beat them with great play-calling.

Hook and motherfucking ladder. Brady to Welker who flips to a streaking Ocho for 6.

If you believe the NY and national media, probably a victory formation kneel.

Goal-line situation with the Patriots up 10, it's 3rd and 1 and it's a traditional goal-line formation with Vince Wilfork lined up as a FB with BJGE right behind him. The ball is snapped, Brady fakes the fullback dive, it's playaction and the defense quickly scrambles around to find Gronk and Hernandez and misses Vince Wilfork running to the flat to catch a TD from Brady, cementing his Superbowl MVP with 1.5 sacks and 1 receiving TD.

I really hope the Patriots never throw the ball at Wilfork. That scares the fuck out of me.

Moreover, I don't want Wilfork playing ONE SNAP on offense; I remember what happened to Seymour.

Great job this week Mike. Do you envision the Pats will do anything difference this week, specifically in the form of trick plays? I'm calling it now - Solder scores a TD.

Ira, we have your prediction on the record. I do think there are wrinkles like that in the plan, which could be tapped if the situation presents itself. Solder is a good one.

A little off-topic, but I saw on ESPN something about (I had it muted and was only half paying attention) which is more likely: a BJGE fumble or an OchoCinco catch. I thought this somewhat hilarious.

I hear this from time to time and I don't really see it; I just don't see how the chance of injury on a per play basis is all that different for a player playing on the other side of the ball. Seymour got hurt playing offense but that's just a coincidence as far as I can tell.

I predidct a direct snap th Hernandez with Brady doing the "OMG the ball went over my head" fake, Hernandez takes it around the strong side with Mankins and Gronk blocking, gains a shit ton of yards, Mankins kills a cornerback.

I had a dream last night.
Under a minute, pats up by 3 but backed up on their own 1, Brady throws away three incompletes from the endZone just to kill another 10-12 seconds, and then an intentional safety to stay up by 1 and punt the ball away. Everyone's head is exploding by the shear brutal genius of Belichick but also the huge risk. The dream ends with the pats safety-punt, 20 seconds left....

If they want to kill clock there, why not three runs?

Because they don't want to get tackled in the end zone for a safety. Oh wait....

This....

Quote

The New England Patriots employed an unusual variant of the play in their 2007 NFL divisional playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Strictly speaking, the play, which the Patriots called "Double Pop,"[6] was actually areverse Statue of Liberty play, in that the run, not the pass, was the fake element. Center Dan Koppen faked a direct snap to Patriots running back Kevin Faulk, causing the defense to move to stop the run; meanwhile, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who received the football, faked an over-the-head snap, and held the Statue of Liberty pose with his back to the defense before turning around and throwing a touchdown pass to wide receiver Wes Welker in the back of the end zone.

If the safety happens on second down, that's a few extra seconds, and, chance of a fumble.

It was a Jim-Beam-and-burlesque inspired dream. What can I say?

I'm changing my vote to a fake punt, from about midfield on a 4th and medium. Mesko acts like he's going to punt it, then rolls to his left and takes off with it.

I expect Julian Edelman to throw a pass today...end around or reverse, he goes deep to Ocho or Hernandez.
