In the Jenny Dell press release, they also announced that Matt Stairs would join the NESN broacast team as an analyst.

Dell and Stairs will join NESN’s popular and talented Red Sox broadcast team that includes play-by-play voice Don Orsillo, color commentator Jerry Remy, studio host Tom Caron, and the network’s trio of Hall of Famers — Dennis Eckersley, Jim Rice and Peter Gammons — who all serve as studio analysts.

I guess Matt Stairs' one year playing with Adrian Gonzalez would be really insightful

This is by far the greatest news of the offseason. I have no idea if Stairs will have any real acumen for this job, but he's probably my favorite player so I don't care.

Edit: In all seriousness, Stairs has a ton of experience around the league, an interesting approach to the game, and should at the very least have some good stories and background material to fill the time with. He probably won't be the statistical savior, but considering the buffoons that get similar jobs at the national level, I have to imagine we could do a lot worse than Stairs. Mateo Escalera will hopefully find a good spot at NESN, and it gives me a good reason to repost one of my favorite SI stories

Meh. Aside from Eckersley, which former baseball player has come in and said anything remotely interesting? Maybe Merloni? But he speaks in cliches that the only thing that he has going for him is his passion for the game and he was around the Sox for the better part of four or five seasons.

I don't get the feeling that Matt Stairs is going to be a Dennis Eckersley kind of analyst. He's been around the majors, but NESN focuses on the Sox. I'm not sure what he brings to the table.

He has a sense of humor and grew up a Red Sox fan (as many from New Brunswick do), so he's got potential.

+1. That being said, I prefer Jenny than Heidi, brunettes over blondes for my pretty face talking head reporter. Hope she can consume as much food as Heidi.

Does he have a sense of humor? I'm not saying that he doesn't, I genuinely don't know. If he does, I hope it's Krukian. Because that's what NESN is missing.

He's been quoted a bit over the years, he's had some good one-liners.

It's one more day until having to listen to Jim Rice again. That's a win in my book.

I wonder how much money he spent over the years buying #12 from a new teammate.
