Watching the SB at bars outside of New England

I'll be in NYC for the Super Bowl and the one place I can think of is Professor Thoms in the northern part of East Village: http://professorthoms.com/. Big time Boston bar, but it'll no doubt be very, very crowded. Any other suggestions for bars in NYC?

They project the game onto a gigantic screen and crank up the volume. I watched a couple games there this season and there were prob 30-40 other Pats fans there each time, all decked out in their jerseys and gear.

If you're in Houston (and why would you be?), Lucky's has a HUGE New England contingent.

I'm in NYC too, but not even considering going to a bar, even a friendly one. I can't imagine any scenario in which a bar won't be completely packed, and I can't afford to be at a NY place for 10 hours or whatever it would take to get a prime spot.
Plus the giants fans will be everywhere

I'll probably be at the Connecticut Yankee in San Francisco.
Too stressful, can't hang. If they win though... Aces (an NYG bar) is only a few blocks south of me on Hyde...

For those of us who now (unfortunately) live outside of the New England area, feel free to add suggestions for Boston-heavy bars to go to for the big game.

I live in NYC and also am not watching the SB at a bar. As stated, everyone's a new fan and will find any bar to watch, so even if not trolling the opposition's fans, you'll be hip-deep in Giants fans.
Not to mention the oodles of fans of both teams that are now invested, and know little about the teams, so care less about the actual gameplay and more about the scores and commercials.
One outside the box way to look at it? Watch it at a hotel bar. Possibly or probably more folks that don't live in NYC so in theory would have less invested - or at least not be full-on Giants fans. I'm considering doing that only because my sister's bf is a Giants fan, so normally seeing it at her apartment might end up being a Giants tailgate party.

I don't know if I can handle it either, but my wife is in class that day just down the street. I would definitely prefer to watch from home where I can swear and kick walls in peace ...Too stressful, can't hang. If they win though... Aces (an NYG bar) is only a few blocks south of me on Hyde...

- Lucas Oil Stadium
- Your house
- Someone else's house who is a Pats fan, will not have any guests rooting for the Giants, will have a large HD TV, and will not tolerate any of his guests yammering throughout the game or saying how you have to admire and/or respect whatever play the Giants just made.

I can't fathom watching this game anywhere other than the following places:
- Lucas Oil Stadium
- Your house
- Someone else's house who is a Pats fan, will not have any guests rooting for the Giants, will have a large HD TV, and will not tolerate any of his guests yammering throughout the game or saying how you have to admire and/or respect whatever play the Giants just made.
This.
Watching the game with obnoxious fuckheads, or - worse - casual fans with uncanny abilities to troll you all game with demands that you stop 'getting so worked up' because 'it's just a game', is a special kind of hell. I think anyone looking to watch this game in a NY bar is fucking nuts. Even if you know of or discover a Pats-friendly bar, I can assure you it will be inundated with Johnny-come-latelys looking to 'be part of the experience'. Sorry to sound like a curmudgeon, but fuck that.
I'll be watching with my family and a few friends, since they're equally into the action, and my mother has a humorous tradition of compulsively cleaning the house to avoid the stress of the game.

Actually I made my arrangements before I knew the boys would be in the game. The atmosphere in the books is great, but I will watch the game in hotel room isolation, game threading here with my bros.
When I go down to collect my bets I will step over forlorn, drunken NY bums strewn about the casino. Should be fun.

The biggest potential downside is the one identified by Bill Simmons in his column about the Grady game. Giants fans WILL descend on these bars after the game if the Giants win and visit hell upon the Pats fans on their way out.

This is how I watched the Patriots win over the Chargers in the 2007 divisional game (the one with Troy Brown's game-changing strip). It was my bachelor party, and my brother had managed to hook up a couple of amazing suites at Mandalay Bay, so we went downstairs, put a ton on the Pats to win outright (Chargers were favored), then went upstairs to our room to watch the game. Coming downstairs blitzed, in Pats attire, and high-fiving other random Pats fans while Chargers fans averted their eyes was nothing short of awesome.

You should scrap this plan and head to the Buc.

I watched the playoff game against Denver at The Buccaneer and it was awesome. But my wife's school is right around the block from the CY and she has class that day.You should scrap this plan and head to the Buc.

bar hate for me -- fighting for a view of a smaller television than the one you own, alongside drunken uneducated likely yelling asshats, many of whom will be - in new york - rooting for the giants.I don't get the bar hate.
what's the point when booze is available outside of bars and you've got a giant television?
sorry; this game means too, at least to me, to put up with the crap of a new york city bar.

You're making an assumption that I don't think will be true in some places in NYC. I don't think a lot of Giants fans will be at Prof Thom's, and I doubt they'll be at the Riviera or the Hairy Monk, either.bar hate for me -- fighting for a view of a smaller television than the one you own, alongside drunken uneducated likely yelling asshats, many of whom will be - in new york - rooting for the giants.

I take your point about the smaller TVs.

Also, I like having control of the remote. Being able to rewind and re-watch plays is important to me. Plus, I plan on watching the Puppy Bowl and I'm not sure if they're going to be broadcasting that from the Cask.

I lost a g/f after Super Bowl 42 when her brother was trolling as a Giants fan(he really only follows college football) and she kept telling me it`s just a game and calm down and i told her to shut up in a not so nice way lol

Washington DC?
Murphy's is the only bar. There is one in DC and one in Alexandria.
In my experience the one in Alexandria is better. Go upstairs and it is crawling with Pats fans who are intently watching the game and chanting Gillette style.
It is in Old Towne about a mile from the metro stop.

BINGO. I did the same thing. Not ONE person at the party was a Giants fan and had pure hate for the Pats.

The Shark Club in McLean used to be a Pats bar a long time ago (the Pete Carol Era) I used to go every Sunday before I got Direct TV. No idea if it even exists now.
God, how I hated Pete Carol.

It's not bar hate. It's "other people" hate. It's "insufficient control of your surroundings" hate.I don't get the bar hate.
I love bars generally, and a feelgood Pats win would certainly have me saying "I wish I'd gone to a bar" once it was over. But if other people are like me, what they need right now is a cocoon inside which they can crawl, swear like sailors, and, should it become absolutely necessary, break something. You can't do that in a public place. You can't do it if there are kids around. You can't do it when there are certain people around. You need those kids and those people to be away from you are, and the only people around you to be people who will let you be you and not try to regulate your behavior. And of course you need them to be Patriots fans.
I am more worked up for this game than I have been for any Boston game since the second game of the 2004 World Series. And however this game progresses, I am pretty sure I am going to need to scream out loud a few times, jump up and down a few times, and say "fucking anuscunt," "fucking toastfuck" and "fucketyfucketyfuckfuckfuck" at least once each. These things can't be done or said in a bar without consequences, and I need to be able to not worry about consequences. And I need ZERO probability of opposing fans being in the picture during all of this.
Bars can be wonderful places to watch a game but ultimately it's about what's right (or most right) for you.

I was in Germany and at a dinner with business associates and wives during one of the World Cup finals. Needless to say, our hosts were as fired up for that game as we are today (kept sneaking out to the bar to get updates until they moved a TV into the dining room). In Berlin they're showing the SB on the biggest movie screen in town; with 7.1 Surround Sound; cheerleaders; buffalo wings, pizza, steak (and mucho beer); and the Berlin Rebels GFL team in the house. It starts at 9:30 PM and ends at 4:00.
Unless the cheerleaders are topless, I think I'll watch from home.

Yes. Their uniforms are in Red Sox font and there's a reference to shipping up to Boston on them.
