2012 All Star Draft - Thu 8pm
#1
Posted 25 January 2012 - 04:06 PM
"A coin toss will decide first pick, with Alfredsson and Chara, joined by their assistant captains, alternately drafting the 38 remaining All-Stars through 19 rounds. Each team will consist of three goaltenders, six defensemen and 12 forwards. To ensure that the final draft picks are true selections and not simply predetermined due to position requirements, each team's three goalies must be picked by the end of Round 10 and each team's six defensemen must be picked by the conclusion of Round 15.
The 12 Rookies participating in the 2012 Molson Canadian NHL All-Star Skills Competition will be divided by the National Hockey League into two groups of six. At the completion of the 15th round of the 2012 Molson Canadian NHL All-Star Player Fantasy Draft, one NHL Rookie will be selected to choose which All-Star team his group will join for the skills competition."
The roster on NHL.com is hard to copy since it's not a list, so I didn't post it here.

It would obviously be hilarious if Kessel was picked last again, but I can't imagine that happens. Personally I'd like to see it be Hartnell.

I don't understand this concept. Doesn't this just predetermine that the final pick will be a forward?
Also, here's the list:

Sounds like it. Not sure what the point is really, I would think people would just pick the best player left subject to positional constraints at each spot.

Exactly. There's rules, so it's not like one captain could just be a douche, pick all the goalies, then LOL at the other guy.

yes, because otherwise all the D and G would go in the last few rounds. and noone would care. This is much more entertaining.Puck Daddy reports that Hartnell is a 6-1 to go last: http://sports.yahoo....-140935348.html

But last year it seemed to be more about buddies and appealing to the home town, etc. Just in general a pile of BS.
ALso I have no idea why Jeffry Lopul is an assistant Captain? He is certainly not one of the best players there

I just really would like to see the fantasy draft if it was more like a true fantasy draft with the 2 GM's trying to assemble the best team.

I say they do it street hockey style and throw all the sticks in the middle and chuck the teams out. LOL.
As far as Lopul being an assistant I thought the same thing.
My guess is that they were trying to even things up because Alfredson isn't really one of the best players there either. Plus Alfredson is going to have to pick the hometown crew so giving Chara Malkin would be "unfair".
But I think it has more to do with making sure Kessel isn't last again.

Really? It's an exhibition game and will be entertaining no matter who gets picked for which team. I don't care if they pick all their buddies, that means they'll play hard for each other and have fun, which is what it's all about. I don't want to watch an all-star game with a bunch of guys that don't like each other. Usually they have guys mic'd up which is the best part and it's even better if they're all 'buddies'.
But in the end, who cares?

In theory, this should lead to the most competitive teams. The forwards who get picked early should definitely be trying to pick who will be their linemates, which I think would be pretty fun and should lead to better action when they're on the ice. Whoever picks Giroux would be kinda crazy not to pick Hartnell, the way those 2 have played together.

I'll bet Chara picks Thomas # 1.
Chara should have brought a mini White House figurine up to the podium with him for when he picks Thimas. THAT would be awesome.

You can just tell Kane thinks Kessel is a major douche.
They must be able to spot their own.

Seguin getting his tweet read by that blond girl made his night. He might not be the last picked, but he'll probably be the last off the couch.

Couldn't you just see all the other guys at the US National Development Camp having a heated argument over which one was the bigger douche. With no clear winner.
