Pollard isn't a dirty player. He's a shameless prick, but he isn't a head-hunter.

I still want his heart on a fucking platter, however.

I disagree with this. The Gronk play was fine, probably the only way to get that guy down. The Brady tackle wasn't a penalty then but it would be now and it was at best reckless. Beyond that, watching him play for the Ravens this year he makes a lot of borderline tackles. He always goes for the big hit and while he's not as bad as Ryan Clark I think he is very close to the "dirty" line more often than not.

Of course, his aggression caused him to be out of position and miss about 5 potential tackles on Aaron Hernandez last game, so it serves him right.

The injury Pollard caused wasn't intentional, but you had to notice the way he was twisting Gronkowski's legs/knees after the tackle, right? I thought at first that was what caused the injury, because he was definitely doing it after the tackle, and it wasn't the first time that game.

I noticed this watching the replay on NFL network last night, the play in which Gronk caught it over the middle going towards the lighthouse end of the fielf, Pollard clearly twists Gronk's ankle as he is getting up......if not a dirty player he's in the neighborhood and he's cleary just a "great guy" given his comments yesterday

RapSheet

The Patriots just released a projected practice report. Not sure what it means. However: Gronk was DNP

Why? What does this comment add? Players have had scarier-looking injuries and played fine. They've had injuries that you wouldn't notice and ended up missing the season.

I will be worried if he doesn't take the field on the first snap the offense plays in the SB. Anything before then is unreliable and could be gamesmanship by Belichick.

it wasn't called on Pollard, but I don't think that's true. Wilfork was penalized (and fined) for a very similar hit on a QB's knee before the "Brady rule" was implemented.

That's nice, but the key question is whether his car was parked immediately adjacent to the entrance of the club.

I don't think this means much of anything - he could miss practice all week just to make sure he doesn't tweak it again and it wouldn't really impact his availability for next weekend. I'd expect him to be out this week and "limited" next week.

Knowing what I know about these injuries, I'd say he would be limited at least somewhat in the game next weekend. However, Gronk is a freakish 23-year-old uberathlete who is going to get nonstop treatment between now and the game, so abything is possible. I'm also very encouraged by the fact that he was allowed back in the game after the injury, albeit with a heavily taped ankle.

Because he knows it, duh. Ironically enough, Reiss suggests that Ocho/an additional receiver in general could be put on the roster if Gronk is going to be limited in the game.

Pretty sure that's Deion Branch in the striped white shirt screaming at Gronk in pic #2, and season savior Sterling Moore on the left-hand side of pic #4. Also, the guy in the plaid shirt with the backwards Sox cap in pic #1 and #2 may be Patrick Chung but I can't see his face clearly.

Edit: Given the number of Patriots there I would assume a number of the other people in the pictures are also on the team, but there's only so many I recognize without uniform numbers.

There was a holding call right after it was taken.

As long as no one gets pics of Gronk taking bong hits, I'm fine with it.

Gronk was mic'd up for the game. They just had the audio on Toucher And Rich and it was every bit as awesome as you would think. I am searching the internet now for the link but my office blocks almost every fun website (surprisingly not this one!), any other internet sleuths out there want to help?

Moore sporting the horrific loose purple tie. Can't complain, though: dude could be mincing around in a pink tutu for all I care after those two plays at the end of the game.

It's quite clear on the replay he twists Gronk's leg on purpose. How is that not a dirty play in your mind? Or are you saying that he did that, but otherwise hasn't been a dirty player? To which one has to ask, um, really?

In the NFL Replay of the game, Gronk is lined up to the outside and puts a sudden and brutal hit on Suggs who's rushing before running his route. After Suggs picks himself up off the ground he looks around for a few and says, "Who did that?"

Tried looking at the pictures on the roster at pats.com Could not really find a good match. But he must be a player based on his height and massive fore arms.

Didn't he keep asking and finally some teammate said "87"? NFL Network has Sound FX on tonight, 5 and 7 pm Pacific. Think it's from the conf champ games.

Check this out:

Gronk looked just fine after returning. Had a lot of bounce in his step. I'm sure a lot of that was adrenaline, but still...no sign of injury at all.

As long as he's 90% for the SB, he'll be fine.

Although "Dude, we're on the big screen, give me a chest bump" is amazing as well.

My favorite part is starting about 4:40, he comes back to the sideline announcing "I'm back!" and then even more amazingly as they break the huddle he announces "Gronkowski is back!"

Sounds like his response is "Thanks Hoss", which would be awesome if that's what he actually said. "Boss" would make more sense, but I don't pick up the B sound. Maybe "Oz", which might be even cooler.

Two favorite moments:

BB to defense: "Just make the [___] tackle."

Gronkowski: "I'm Back!"

Gronkowski is a piece of work. I can't think of another Boston athlete with his combination of high skills and off-the-wall personality. Maybe Papelbon? Far less likeable, IMO. Manny?

I hope he doesn't go the route of Maury McDermott. I assume BB has a designated finder to keep a discreet eye on him. I bet he can get himself in a world of trouble if left to his own devices..

My first thought was how he reminded me of Manny. His high energy, silliness and abilty to turn a game around with his other worldy talent. He seems like a kid in a man's body at times and it's why he'll be a fan favorite for a long time.

I think the Pedro analogy is more apt than the Manny analogy because, like Pedro, Gronk shows so much exuberance and personality but has not done anything to detract from the team and has always seemed to be ultra prepared and ready to excel. Manny seemed to have more instances where he put himself ahead of the team and made himself unavailable when the team needed him.

I was thinking a less clever Pedroia. High energy and silly but also an extremely smart player and a tenacious competitor.

Yea, but Pedroia's personality is more of the "chip on my shoulder/overachiever' type. Gronk knows he's awesome and acts like it, like Pedro.

Also unlike Manny, I'd bet anything that if Gronk stopped being productive, he'd fade into the background and concentrate on getting better. Manny's personality shone through often at the worst possible times.

Not a comp - only using him as a guy with some talent who destroyed himself by going overboard with the partying. Natural exuberance can get a guy into trouble if he doesn't check himself now and then.
