According to Olney via MLBTR, it's Ibanez:

As a Sox fan, I like this move.

Are you not aware of what happens to corpses when they sign with the Yankees? I've already penciled Ibanez in for a .340 wOBA and 25HRs.

Kind of makes one long for the steroid era.

Raul Ibanez came up also this week, his agent called Cashman. I think they can do better, he is 40, but his HR chart from last year shows you why he shouldn't be entirely ruled out:

If anything, it looks like he would have had less home runs in Yankee Stadium. Last year it looks like he would have had a net loss of four.

I looked at the last three years and there was one hit that Yankee Stadium would have turned into a home run and many more it would have prevented.

Meanwhile Oakland signs Manny to a 500 K minor league deal. You think if the Yankees matched that Manny doesn't take it?

I doubt if Girardi wanted Manny in his clubhouse-- at any price. Ibanez, in contrast, has a reputation as a pretty solid citizen.

Also, Manny can't play for the first third of the year because of his 50 game suspension.

Between Chavez and Jones you have DH covered for 50 games. Manny has much higher upside than Ibanez IMO, and the cost is nothing. They could have signed both and have Manny ready if Ibanez is a bust. If Ibanez produced they could just release or trade Manny.

Then the Red Sox should have brought him back. Insurance if Papi has a bad year. Or platoon him with Papi. After all, the cost is nothing.

The corpse of Raul Ibanez just broke a scoreless tie in the 7th with a two run HR off Max Scherzer.

NY signs Jack Cust to a minor league deal, .251/.379/.441 against RHP over the last three years combined. I guess he's in line if Jorge Vazquez goes elsewhere, Branyan can't get healthy, and Ibanez keeps sucking.

He finally gets to do his thing for the Yankees instead of against them!

Ibanez ain't going anywhere until he sucks for the month of April. They won't eat his $1.1M until he sucks for real.

Raul got a bloop single to left in the first inning today, then almost homered down the line in right in the second. Hayward leaped over the fence to bring it back in. 3-0 Yanks.

I've been looking for this clip for YEARS, thank you!! I grew up in MD so when the Yankees played the O's I got to watch on TV, so that one stands out for me.

My jaw dropped when I saw this clip is from 2003, I thought it was just a few years ago. That was a wild night, the Orioles batted out of order, and nobody noticed, Flaherty hit not 1 but 2 dingers, this play was the perfect ending for this game.

Ibanez homered tonight. Had one stolen from him the day before. Now hitting .111 for ST. And he's playing left field tonight, too!

And he just added a hard line drive RBI single off a LH reliever (Troy Patton), good to see.

It's worth noting that Russell Branyan has been activated at long last and is playing in AAA.

Branyan with two 3 run HRs in tonight's AAA game, 1.183 OPS in 15 ABs so far (plus 5 walks).

Branyan is still killing it, up to a 1.400 OPS in 47 PAs now, 16 RBIs in his last 7 games. Man, it'd be nice to get him some DH ABs against RHP while Gardner is still out.

Why are they even keeping him down there at this point?

Well, he's been healthy less than two weeks, and who is the backup CF if they send down Wise for Branyan? Freddy Garcia is a waste of a roster spot, but I don't see them going to 11 pitchers (Eppley will presumably go down for Robertson on Friday).

Walkoff HR for Branyan in AAA tonight, still rocking a 1.292 OPS through 60 ABs.

It's not like the Yanks have been suffering at the DH spot. .308/.371/.515 with an OPS+ of 122 (which is second on the team behind Cano).

The guy could always hit. Staying on the field was his problem once he got a shot and even then he struggled to get opportunities, mostly because of his struggles against lefties.

Yeah, I just wanted to see him in YS, such a perfect fit of player and field, but he couldn't stay healthy and Ibanez has been very solid (defensively also, somehow).
