Actor Andy Garcia helped pro partner Paul Stankowski by 32 shots to break the team record in the AT+T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Sporting an 18-handicap, Garcia broke 80 at both Pebble Beach and Poppy Hills. Former USGA handicap whiz Dean Knuth estimates the odds of Garcia's feat at 10,000 to 1.
That is the problem with handicap tournaments. No one believes the guy who wins and there is no way he feels good about that.
I once played in a match play club championship at a course I was a member. Head to head matches scheduled over the course of a few weeks. Opening round I get the Catholic priest from the local church. He closes me out on 15, 4 and 3, he's about three over through 15 sporting a 14 handicap. I'm ready to just head in because I'm so pissed at the fucker, but he suggests we play out the final three holes. He goes double, double, double and turns in the card. Just pure bullshit.
