Actor Andy Garcia helped pro partner Paul Stankowski by 32 shots to break the team record in the AT+T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Sporting an 18-handicap, Garcia broke 80 at both Pebble Beach and Poppy Hills. Former USGA handicap whiz Dean Knuth estimates the odds of Garcia's feat at 10,000 to 1.

That is the problem with handicap tournaments. No one believes the guy who wins and there is no way he feels good about that.

I once played in a match play club championship at a course I was a member. Head to head matches scheduled over the course of a few weeks. Opening round I get the Catholic priest from the local church. He closes me out on 15, 4 and 3, he's about three over through 15 sporting a 14 handicap. I'm ready to just head in because I'm so pissed at the fucker, but he suggests we play out the final three holes. He goes double, double, double and turns in the card. Just pure bullshit.

Some of these work better for invitationals than for member tournaments and vice versa, but I like them all:

1) Maximum handicap of a maximum of 18. If you are a 25, feel free to play, but you aren't getting more than a shot a hole.

2) Have everyone play at 75%, even after the 18 maximum. Now no one is getting shots on easy par 3's.

3) Have X amount of rounds in the past X months or you take an additional haircut.

I was talking with a few guys about a high-profile individual net tournament, and they were wondering why I don't play in it. On the board of the winners, you see guys shooting low net 60s (and even a net 56, which is absurd) to win it. Sandbaggers immortalized for life. The only single-digit guys who play in it are just supporting the event, since a 5 would have be a couple under to win.

Charlie Wi just 3-jacked the first from three feet for double. Nick Faldo says his day is over.

Tiger two back, Phil four. Game on, this is going to be good.

Bad miss on 2 for Tiger. Phil has a tap in birdie, though.

Ryan Moore's making a big run. -4 through 5, moved into a tie with Woods 2 back of Wi.

Wi continues his meltdown with a bogey on 5.

Phil has been en fuego, and is about to be tied for the lead. Tiger is just plugging along with pars all day. A few missed shots, a few missed putts, etc. He is still just a shot back, however.

When the CBS coverage starts it will be Mickelson-Woods at 1-2. Phil eagles 6.

Edit: followed by two bogeys for Woods. He has almost finished his second front nine at Pebble even. CBS is dying for this basketball game to end.

Tiger gets out of the enormous bunker on 9(been there, couldn't do that), but couldn't save par. Leaking oil big time, and 10 is no bargain.

I think Romo beat Tiger on the front.

Romo's a scratch golfer, isn't he? Funny, on an early hole today before CBS joined the tourney, the Golf Channel showed Woods analyzing a putt and advising Romo on it. Maybe the wrong way around?

2 straight shots where Tiger does the whole "drop the club immediately on the follow through" routine. He looks terrible.

Sundays used to be Tiger's time, but no one fears him anymore. Sad to see him struggle just to win another tournament...he very well might not in 2012.

A medium wedge shot at the pin and Tiger spins it 15 feet away after landing right next to the hole.

Phil won an interesting lawsuit in Canada last week, trying to identify a guy who is saying he fathered an illegitimate kid, among other things.

What is interesting is that this rumor has been out there for the better part of a decade.

The rumor I've heard about Phil is that he and Amy are swingers. I don't even know what to think about that.

Nice try by Tiger, but its kind of comical that CBS is trying to make this a duel between Tiger and Phil when in reality Tiger has no shot to win, there are 6 players between them. Tiger would do well to even make the top 5.

Truth - he drove the ball like dogshit last week. Butch fixed him up right.

The other un-Phil-like thing is that he hasn't geeked a three-footer yet. I hope it gets close so he tries to hit driver off the deck on 18 again.

It will be interesting to see how long it lasts. It's not like last week was a shocking aberration.

Dustin Johnson seem to be really enjoying #14. So much so that he doesn't want to stop

EDIT--made a 13 footer to save a double

14 is such an awesome par 5. In this day of these guys thinking all par 5's are easy birdie holes, 14 is a true 3 shotter, and if you're out of position, you're screwed.

So he needs a 4 on the par 5 18th? I don't think he hits it far enough to comfortably reach the green in 3.

I really can't understand what Wie is doing here. I guess maybe he figures he has a better shot of holing out from 100 yards, than he does of reaching the green in 2.

Well I guess it doesn't matter anyway now

Nice wedge.

I think the 200K had something to do with it.
