Any new signups do not immediately get their account enabled to post on the entire site. There are basically three types of forums.
  • Ones that everyone can see and post in. These include our Patriots, Celtics and Bruins forums. Most of the forums that you can see (if you're not a full member) are forums of this type.
  • The Red Sox forum -- this forum you can see but unless you're a full member you cannot post in. We get about 25,000 unique eyes on this site, mostly to follow the Red Sox, and without this filter in place the volume becomes unbearable, the quality takes a drop and people end up resigning to "me too!" posts. In short, we can realize why this would suck if you're not a member, but the alternate is far worse.
  • Hidden forums. SoSH enjoys one of the closest-knit communities on the internet and as a result there are a significant amount of forums dedicated to topics from video games to politics. We encourage all new members to check them out!
There is one exception to this, which is the "Sandbox". This is where new members are directed to talk about the Red Sox. Current members do not have permission to post there, so feel free to post away in there and get the feel of the site.

The best way to get membership is to participate in discussions in the open forums. When you've proven yourself to bring something to the game (and most important proven to not be a troll or russian spam-bot) we have a private forums where existing members can nominate folks. Rest assured: if you're posting something, the chances are high that a number of members are looking at it and thinking to themselves "would this guy make a good SoSHer?"

We understand not everyone is a prolific poster so if you're the type who would like to be a full member, but prefer to limit your posting, then you can still be a member. Open a ticket here ==> SoSH Support.

Nip and others,
I was made a member a little over a year ago, but don't seem to be allowed to post in the member-only forums. Are there other criteria in addition to membership that one has to meet to post board-wide, or something I'm doing incorrectly? I've got this massive catalog of zingers and pithy one-liners I'm dying to unleash.
And Nip, sorry for previously sending the PM rather than posting here.

I may be corrected but:

-Older members are grandfathered in and can post in any forum even if they haven't ponied up for a membership.
-More recent members (from the last five years, I think) have to pay.

I could be wrong. I could be right.

Thanks, Laddie. It's something I should have done anyways, but this at least gives me a selfish reason to pay up. Unless there's some way to pirate my comments into the forums.

Don't you worry, we're already talking about you there.
