Brad Emaus was acquired from the Rockies for that always elusive PTBNL or cash. These 2 articles from Fangraphs indicate how the Mets screwed up their Rule 5 prize who won their 2B job last spring training:

Rotoworld had his AAA mumbers after Emaus was traded to the Rockies following his return to the Jays after the Mets lost patience too quickly:

Emaus, 25, posted a promising .313/.389/.564 batting line with nine home runs and 28 RBI in 45 games last season at Triple-A Colorado Springs. He'll function as organizational infield depth this year for Boston.

He might also compare favorably with Bill Mueller, one of Theo's indispensible early acquisitions before the 2004 championship. This is an astute organizational depth acquisition by Cherington that might prove important if Youkilis battles injuries again next season. I think Emaus could play 3B in that scenario. He could be more than a stopgap if, because Youks goes down, the organization prefers to not rush Middlebrooks if he isn't ready. As a decent hitting infielder who could possibly play several positions, he might be the offensive ying to Punto's defensive yang. Can he play RF well enough to compete for a platoon job? I suppose, as mainly a 2B, that he can't patrol out there. Nevertheless, this is a decent hitting potential utility player who had that cup of coffee the Mets gave him prematurely and stupidly snatched away. Of course, it was the Mets.

Haven't been this excited since the Sox acquired Tug Hulett.

Seriously, nice depth move that can't hurt, still young enough to provide value. You'd think the Mets would want guys like this, but they are the Mets.

Worst case scenario, Emaus is a younger Tug Hulett:

I posted this in the thread on the minor league board, but when I heard he showed some decent hitting ability but poor defense at second and third, the first guy I thought of was:

And neither did the Blue Jays. And neither did the Rockies. So the Sox are his fourth organization in the last nine months then.

I'm going to hold off on the Billy Mueller comparisons for now.

But he's ours now, so we have to get carried away with his upside. That's what we do here, isn't it?

He might - both showed a tendency to put up OPS around or over .800 at every stop in their minor-league career - at least, with the bat. It's definitely important to note that Vegas and Colorado Springs are absolute launching pads though, which tempers Emaus's last 2 monster seasons.
