It doesn't help it's two East Coast teams AGAIN this year but I am quickly losing interest. It also doesn't help that CBP is an absurd place to watch hockey.

3 hours of NBC fellating itself over its sports coverage to celebrate the launch of NBCSportsNetwork. Clip after clip interspersed with Bob Costas being a smarmy shitbrick. What was the pre-game like?

Krys Barch certainly wasn't pleased.Did NBC really think hockey fans want to hear The Roots?
Edit: I liked it but I'm a pretty big Roots junkie.

They're much much much better than Nickelback, that's for sure.
You are correct, of course, but isn't that like saying chlamydia is better than AIDS?

I can't think of a more disgusting team than the Philadelphia Flyers.

If it was a temporary outdoors arena built for the game, it... would probably not work either, but it would be better than this. Sticking an ice rink in a baseball field is retarded.

The Roots are awesome. Haunted is an idiot. The Winter Classic has lost it's novelty.
Meh. And Pfft. And I agree.

Yeah, I think it is. Especially in a ballpark. I love the fact that in a great outdoor summer venue you can stick in an outdoor winter sport, once a year. I love that they left the pitchers mound and home plate uncovered. It's a connection to our year round love of sports, these two in particular. In a few years those who went today won't remember the final score or the sightlines as much as they will the experience of being in such a scintillating atmosphere.Isn't it great?

Just great.
The record is 22, btw.
It'll be broken by Valentine's Day

Sykora giveaway in the neutral zone + Matt Taormina being terrible and flailing around like a mite-on-ice + Brodeur being 500 and letting in a soft goalI didn't see the game. How did it happen THIS time?

It's always something. That's the problem for the coaching staff. It isn't just one thing. They're all taking turns on this. It's a full team effort and it's the most creative part of their game.
Someone's tried to analyze this here.
Reviewing the first 10 shorthanded goals allowed by the Devils
The 11th was Kovy's pass to no one in particular at the point and into his own net against Carolina. So, that gives him two. But Sykora has now been implicated in three and Elias two.

apparently Tortorella said after the game there was a conspiracy between the NHL and NBC to get the game into OT
Stay classy Torts. I hope he gives himself an ulcer.
You know how it feels being the first 2-time Winter Classic loser? It sucks. And it stinks and it sucks. Nice of Danny Briere to take the gift penalty shot and fire it right into Hankie's pads. Bernie Parent makes that save.
Shit.

Shit.
In the past 15 seasons, theres been 11 penalty shots with a minute or less left in the game.
Zero players have converted these penalty shots.
Not one of em.
So... maybe cut Danny some slack.
