I was supposed to go to this game but a 3 hour drive on NYE sounded like suicide so instead I'll be watching while pre gaming with friends.

Drive out with your friends (or just the wife) tomorrow afternoon, grab a cheap-o hotel (Hyatt House for $120/night 2 blocks from the arena), hit the game (up to 16 available together for $75 each on stubhub), find out where the Bruins are going after the game, party like a rock star, crash in your cheap-o hotel, drive home on the 1st.
If you want to make a weekend out of it the Mavs are at home tonight.

If I didn't have to work for a bit tomorrow that would have been the plan. Austin is a more enjoyable city to party in anyways.

Plus the fact that we should be moving back to Mass in March and I can see the B's then makes it all ok.

I probably would have spent NYE with this guy (he's a friend and drummer for a band I play with), but all the same. It's a wedding and thus a more private party (so I don't see some other friends I might have seen), there's family and the whole dressing up thing.

Just met a Liverpudlian gentleman who works the desk at my hostel, is apparently a huge Wings fan, thinks Columbus and Phoenix should be contracted in conjunction with the conference re-alignment, and called Joe Thornton a "total bitch" for diving after the slash from Franzen in last year's playoffs. Also met a guy from Vancouver who who, upon learning I was a Bruins fan but fellow Liverpool fan, gave myself and goyang a half mickey of Smirnoff. These guys are both cool in my book.

I am currently all-nighting it until the 6 hour, 3-change train journey that we have starting in less than 6 hours. I have an unlimited supply of cheap Magner's, said Smirnoff, Normand Léveillé's ghost-written biography, pay-to-play WiFi, a credit card, and an utter lack of dignity.

They showed the 2008 game first, and it was pretty great to see some of those old guys playing again (Savard and Axelsson mostly).

It was also really, really weird to see a bunch of empty seats at a Bruins game. Oh, how things have changed.
