Pietrus to the Celtics sounds pretty much done.

@MickaelPietrus I have decided to be part of The Boston Celtics Family.

Pietrus is a great signing for the Celtics. He's strong and athletic enough to guard James and Anthony and can shoot a decent three ball to keep the defense honest.

Nice early Christmas present!

Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas. The price is nice, and he can spell Pierce and Ray Ray to save them for the playoffs. Me likey.

Sounds good to me. Needed a solid backup wing.

Having met him and seen how he interacted with his teammates, his value goes well beyond the court. This is a great signing for the C's.

As I said in the other thread, Pietrus makes sense given the injury to Green. However, in the interest of managing expectations, C's fans should know what they are getting.

If he is healthy and age hasn't started to take its toll, he has great athleticism and can both shoot from the outside and do a bit of slashing. On defense he is pretty awful despite having the tools to be a good defender. But where he'll really drive some people nuts is his decision making with the basketball. Per the other thread, it bears repeating that his best comp for Boston fans is Tony Allen with worse defense and a better outside shot.

There will be nights where he looks like one of the best players on the floor but he'll also do something so clownshoesian that he might make some pine for the real TA.

In any event, he can help the C's. However, as with many players in the Association, his flaws will reveal themselves at the most inopportune times...

I'm here buddy! :)

Trying not to be too vocal on how bad a player Pietrus is even when healthy......this honeymoon won't last long and we can move on from there if Pietrus even returns from his chronic knee problem.

I don't like hearing that. My only real memories of him were when he caught fire against the C's in the playoffs a few years back. I was hoping he was that kind of player all the time.

Oh well. We needed depth and he's "depth".

Wish he was here in time to take De Sade's shot at the end.

Well, he can't be worse than Pavlovic or Bradley, right?

...Right?

Nope but that is some damning praise now isn't it! I made a statement in 2006 that Gerald Green was the worst player in the league and it wasn't even close (as he was getting 20 mpg) and i'm pretty certain that if Bradley isn't THE worst player today he is on the very short list. Like Green, watching Bradley is like seeing a 5th grader play on the high school varsity team.

Pietrus also has a very bad knee that ended his season early last year then had surgery which probably could have gone better since his knee was reportedly still swollen as last as last week. I'm sure he will "Pass" his physical tomorrow regardless since the Celtics have very little invested in him and are thinking long term toward playoffs so there is time to get healthy.

You need to learn to look at the bright side of things. He's got the size to defend power 3s and you really don't care if he gets injured doing it.

Bradely should only hope to be good as Gerald Green.

Exactly. At least Green had one discernable NBA skill (shooting) and a ton of natural athletic ability even if he never did develop as a player.

I watched Moore for 4 years help resurrect the my alma mater's basketball team back to relevance. His D will surprise you, as will his ability to create his shot in traffic. He's not going to be an all star by any means, but he'll contribute eventually.

I'm not ready to give up on Bradley yet

I can definitly see Moore taking his spot tho cause he's not as wild

As far as Pietrus, as much as I desperately want him taking Sasha's minutes ASAP, it's all about making the playoffs and avoiding Chicago and Miami in first round and taking their chances then so I agree with not rushing anybody

Bradley should collect every penny he can from his rookie NBA deal and immediately try to become an NFL cornerback or something. The guys NBA career is toast. It's not possible for him to have shown less ability in his 1+ year in the league. He is 6"1", but can't dribble, can't shoot, can't pass, and doesn't know where to go on offense.

Not surprised about Pietrus needing more rehab considering his prior trade to Toronto was voided because he failed his physical. We really need Pierce and even Pietrus against the heat. The current roster just doesn't have the horses on the wing.

Ray/Bradley/Quis/Sasha vs. Lebron and Wade has epic disaster potential.

Pietrus looked very good last night, especially for someone playing his first NBA game for the season with a new team. He will be a solid part of Doc's rotation.

Heaving up a 35-footer early in the shot clock just as the Celtics were getting on a run didn't look so good to me. His judgment was as awful as advertised.

how are the Spurs, the other old team on the opposite conference, not lose a step while these Celtics suck so bad? weren't there amnestied players that we could have brought in for this bench?

Interesting. I was at the game and don't recall him doing that. My seats are down low at one end, so I can't easily see the length of shots taken at the other end unless they are shots taken from the side. I liked his defensive intensity. (He had two steals.) Here's what Doc said after the game:

"He’s exactly what we need. And it’s just going to get better. Even if it didn’t, I’d take it. Really. He was terrific. He really was. His energy, his joy – he brought joy to the game. You know, you can just see it... He was so happy to play, and really the only reason he came out (in the fourth quarter) was because he was dying. He was getting tired and I had to take him out."

Maybe Doc is just talking his book here, but I think he meant it.

Nothing but coachspeak. I'm not a super fan of +/- however the team has performed much worse with Pietrus on the floor so whatever joy and happiness he was bringing didn't appear to have a positive effect on the game. The Celtics are 1-5 with Pietrus in the rotation and office pools predicting when his first assist or offensive rebound will occur have already popped up.

As advertised.

For the record, that 3-point attempt wasn't actually a 35-footer however it was a forced 25-footer off the first pass of the possession which essentially killed the run that the team was appearing to have.
