Somebody said they found it recently in Blackberry App World. It was apparently released in the past couple of days. I haven't tried it yet. It does show on there but it's the $14.99 version.

I had to start playing a live/archived game to get it to ask for my username/password. Seems to work pretty well once you get it up and running.

Could anyone share thoughts on milbtv? Is it worth it? Do they show most of the games? It seems like a good deal for $40, but I'd like to hear some testimonials from folks with firsthand experiences before going through with buying it.

Depends on what you're hoping to see. If you want to see the PawSox, you're golden, but there's not a lot outside of AAA (check their list of participating teams). From a quick scan of the PawSox schedule it looks as though all their games will be covered. Quality depends on the home ballpark; generally it's at least OK but there's somewhere the PawSox play on the road where I swear they only have two cameras mounted on the roof. Maybe a few more freeze-ups with milb.tv than mlb.tv last year, and the sound often seemed really low--sometimes I'd mute the milb.tv sound and pull up the PawSox radio stream via WHJJ online. I do think it's a good deal, though.

I have the 720p Roku, but I have a 1080p television. Is it worth upgrading to the 1080p Roku, or will I not really notice the difference?

Its really a personal preference. If you don't mind spending the extra $50 for the HD Roku then get the HD one

Edit: don't most sports broadcast NOT broadcast in 1080P, as its not the standard in HD yet?

I don't have a Roku, so I can't answer your second question. On the first question, I would say no. 'm far from an expert, so I'm just going from what I've read. But I've seen quite a few articles like this, where the author claims there is little noticeable difference between 1080p and 720p unless you either have a really big TV or sit really, really close to the TV while you watch. Not to mention that most of the content you would be viewing on a Roku won't be streamed in 1080p anyways.

They have been doing this for years. I don't like it either. They went from showing real commercials, to a slide of bobble head dolls while ukelele music played to the commercial break in process screen. They played the local radio commercials so I don't know what the difference is.

I can't believe people are complaining about not getting commercials. I enjoy the 3 minutes of peaceful silence. In related news, the ballpark audio feed (no announcers) is pretty cool too.

As long as it's the local Boston commercials then I wouldn't mind having them. However, around a month or two into the season MLB always seems to start running the same 1-2 commercials over and over and over again, which gets extremely annoying.

Living in a rural area where broadband had been a rumor until very recently - I've basically skipped the last decade or so with regards to advancements in technological gadgetry. We finally got broadband at our house a couple weeks ago and I was most delighted yesterday to be sitting out on my porch waiting for my kid to get off the schoolbus while watching the Sox/Nats game via the MLB At Bat app for the kindle fire - it's like I went from 1973 to 2012 in two weeks - future shock indeed. I had no expectations really, being so far behind the rest of the world on this stuff - but the picture quality was surprisingly good to me - I see much time in my hammock with the game on the kindle this summer.

Next up - figuring out if a roku box will work with my really old TV or if I have to join the 21st century on that front as well. Or should I just get a better monitor and watch from my PC?

Thanks for your thoughts on the service. It seems like a reasonably good price for what it offers, but I think it's a few years away from being a product with mass appeal. It's awesome that two Sox affiliates are signed up.

Verizon LTE card + mlb.com = being bumped to a 5:25 flight is not nearly as bad as it could be. Though I need to root for lots of OT in the Union-Ferris St to avoid missing both games.

If you go into Network settings on in the list of settings on the far left in the XMB, and do everything manually, at some point it should ask if you want to setup a proxy after you get the basic network stuff setup.

Just in case anyone else is playing the "do I have the bandwidth?" game in their head, my PS3 tested as just barely getting a high enough download speed through my home wireless network to enable HD streaming. It was completely stunning, and I couldn't tell I was watching an internet stream over a wireless connection as opposed to watching regular cable TV. It is glorious.

Stunning is the right word. I couldn't get over how good it looked yesterday on the TV through my blu-ray player. It's noticeably improved since just the other day when I was watching spring training games.

In ye olden days I would've watched the cable broadcast on ESPN instead just because the picture quality was so much better than MLB.tv, even just watching on a non-HD TV, but not anymore.

I did have a few instances where the screen went black for a split second and then the stream came right back but it seemed to have lost a few seconds in a time/space discontinuity and then twice it stopped momentarily and I had to wait for it to buffer for a couple of seconds before it resumed.

It only goes down for a bit after the game ends because they edit it to cut out commercial breaks, etc. before archiving it. They also make the condensed game versions, etc.

I assume the tv is connected to your network and other built in web apps are working? If so than you may need to update the TV somehow, either the app itself or in the web app settings, or perhaps the TV's firmware.

I take back my ST rant. MLB.tv is an incredible product that seems to be widely underpriced but sshhhh don't tell them that. And I haven't even tried the XBOX version.

Just bought the mlb.tv premium package in time for the opening day game. Since I had to eventually leave for work I couldn't watch the last few ininnings except...
that I could tune in on my iphone and catch them here and there. That's a pretty sweet deal to be able to watch games whenever away from home.

I bought the whole package for the year. But I like that mlb.com gives the option for monthly purchases. I only wish the nhl network did the same. I'd love to have
their service except there's only one flat charge of $89.00. So whether it's the beginning or the end of the nhl season, the price stays the same and never drops. Their loss.

I love MLB.tv and couldn't survive the season without it. It has progressed an unbelievable amount in the five or so years I've had it. However, there is one new feature for this year that is decidedly less than excellent:

Super-loud and unmutable commercials between innings. I was just assaulted with some ad for a James Cameron special that was far louder than the game I was watching, and there was no option to adjust the ad's volume. I had to mute my laptop and unmute it when the game came back on. Last night I had muted the game that I was watching, but when the commercial came on the MLB.com Media Player ignored my muting and blared their commercial. I thought that my $130 would be enough to avoid these type of commercials.

Do you have AdBlock? I haven't seen one ad this season.

So far this year I haven't had any issues, computer or ipod. I don't use NexDef.

Yup, I've tried it on some pretty high speed connections but it still cuts in and out a fair bit.
