Me thinks the mods in RMPS have it right and this kind of crap should be locked up or moved to P&G for proper mocking. It has no business in a football forum and anyone ripping Gronk or any other player for what they do AFTER the game, on their own time, should STFU.

Pats should trade him straight up for Osi. You don't need a bad influence like Gronk on your team.
Hey, look! Perspective!
How novel. Interesting it would come from a fan of an opponent who is in a good mood and can be more objective.
Nicely done, MF. And congrats.

THE BACK STORY...
Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was fined $7,500 on November 18 by the NFL for his unsportsmanlike spike following his second touchdown grab win over the Jets on November 13. Gronkowski finished the game with eight catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns as the Patriots rolled, 37-16.
The Sharks offered to pay the $7,500 fine if GRONK agreed to spike a puck at a Sharks game… GRONK took the Sharks up on the offer and he said YES!
Rob Gronkowski spiked the football after a celebration of a touchdown vs. the Patriots biggest rival, the New York Jets. It will be only be fitting that Gronkowski will spike a puck before the Worcester Sharks host their biggest rival, the Providence Bruins on Friday, February 24th.

They use a silicon ice in San Jose.Seriously, isn't there a strong likelihood that he causes a big divot in the ice?

It's the Worcester Sharks, San Jose's AHL affiliate. The Centrum may crumble after the Gronking, but most likely ice will be fine. I'd be more worried about the puck taking a funny bounce and hitting Gronk in the eye (if he is bent over) or the nuts. They use a silicon ice in San Jose.

I guess now we know how Bane gets Heinz Field to collapse.

Oh yeah, Worcester was mentioned. Sloppy thread reading by me. I was wondering why Gronk would be doing something at a San Jose Sharks game, unless they just wanted a complete beast there. It's the Worcester Sharks, San Jose's AHL affiliate. The Centrum may crumble after the Gronking, but most likely ice will be fine. I'd be more worried about the puck taking a funny bounce and hitting Gronk in the eye (if he is bent over) or the nuts.

Yeah, you're right. I looked quickly and saw that they have some tickets priced at $10, but your number seems more accurate. They had a Gronk Experience ticket, limited to 500, that sold out. Turns out they got a hell of a bang for their $7500.Do they need 700 to make it work tho? Concessions, merchandise, etc. probably 300 would do it I imagine.

FWIW they average 4500 per game, for the Gronk game the attendance was 10,170.

Finley's extension sets the market for a future Gronk extension. $8M/season for 5 or 6 years?
If he maintains his level of production he'll be setting the market for himself. I don't think $10M/yr is out of the question when it comes time, especially with the rise in the cap in a couple of years.

This is a long way of saying that I think the Pats are content to wait and watch how Gronkowski rebounds from this injury. The organization will carefully monitor his health and overall effectiveness over the course of at least another grueling season before they consider opening the vault. That's just how they roll, and it makes good business sense. The risk from an accounting standpoint is if Gronk returns and dominates, then the team will end up paying considerably more to retain him than if they had locked him up earlier. That's a risk the Pats are usually willing to take.

Gronk is a transcendent talent, and almost certainly has already had his greatest season. He'll never be as healthy and dynamic as he was in 2011, because the high ankle sprain he suffered on Pollard's tackle is just the first of many injuries that a guy like Gronk will accumulate as his career progresses. He invites contact and relishes the physical hell-no-I-won't-go-down spirit that is a trademark of all great tight ends. I'm not saying that it's all downhill from here, but it's unlikely he (or anyone else, frankly) will ever have a season as consistently brilliant as the one he just had. It wasn't just the mind-boggling production, it was the breathtaking manner in with he compiled those numbers.

On top of that, if you want to open up extension talks, in the offseason after his record breaking campaign probably isn't the best time. There's likely no way he duplicates the numbers, even if he duplicates the performance. I wouldn't be shocked to see more injuries to the guy either, as Johnny notes.
This isn't one to worry too much about. I'd be more concerned with Hernandez. He comes up at the same time, is less valuable than Gronk but it'll be hard to convince him of that. There's only one tag, and there's a lot of room for difference of opinion on value for his unique skillset. I feel like it's more likely we see him walk after year 4. But a lot can happen between now and 2014...

And it'll be hard to convince 20 other teams that they shouldn't pay him more than the Pats want to. People looked at the Finley contract (2/$15) as a starting point for Gronk, but I see that as the proper comparison for Hernandez. If Gronk were entering FA right now, it'd take 5/$50-60 to sign him.

What parent in their right mind Thinks its a good idea to send two 16 year olds to Aruba unsupervised?
Two I would assume that since this took place in a bar, Gronk thought they were of legal age
Three: The parents of those two kids are not being responsible parents IMO

That doesn't even consider the possibility of these broads being underage. Different country and all...but definitely not what you want to be known for.

Is it too early for a Natalie Holloway joke? Yes that is an awful thought, but seriously what parent of a young girl wouldn't be thinking about her when sending their daughter to Aruba?

This guy is rapidly descending into Jonathan Papelbon territory as far dopey off the field antics. Maybe worse. The BiBi Jones thing was a plausibly deniable/innocent "welcome to being famous" moment, but these tabloid stories are now becoming regularities, and if he doesn't quickly learn how to keep a low profile, he's going to be a distraction for this team.
That doesn't even consider the possibility of these broads being underage. Different country and all...but definitely not what you want to be known for.
Please provide some examples of stupid things Papelbon has done off the field. Paps' stupidity is seemingly confined to baseball-related activities.
As for Gronk, taking into account his age and the season he just put together, I think the hand-wringing about him having some fun is hilariously overwrought. He's a studly professional athlete with lots of money. Of course he's going to nail chicks.

Probably best if they aren't 16. When Sanchez was pulling this shit last year we were pretty quick to crucify him. I guess it's ok when it's our guy? :unsure

Eh. I dunno. I can see where you're coming from, and part of me agrees with you. But these things can take on a life of their own and become a distraction for the team regardless of what he was actually doing, or what his intentions were. Like Brady has said numerous times, you just can't put yourself out there like this when you become famous. Brady learned that he can't do "normal people" stuff, like go to the movies, or go to the mall, because it's just a total shitshow. Like it or not, fair or unfair, that's one of the trade-offs you make when you become a recognized celebrity. You kind of have to be more private or these things will become your problem even when you didn't really do anything wrong. Not saying what will become of this, but first the pornstar thing, then the Super Bowl dancing, now this.... sure, intelligent people like yourself and myself will see them as simply a 23 year-old being a 23 year-old. These are media-driven stories that our celebrity-loving culture will eat up. But when it starts leading to reporters asking questions to him and his teammates about his off-the-field hijinks, then it will become a distraction and a problem. And it's not hard to see something like that eventually coming down the road.
I'm sure he'll be called into the principle's office. I'm sure it won't be the first time and it probably won't be the last time.

I think most people would agree Gronk lacks sound judgement and common sense.
I think he's kind of an idiot, just like I think Mark Sanchez is kind of an idiot. That doesn't change the fact that I love watching him play for the Patriots and hope he's around for a long time.

But in the US its 21 to drink, so perhaps he thought that since they were in a bar, they were of legal age (US legal age)? I mean would the first thing that would cross anyone's mind be " I think thats a 16 year old is by themselves in another country"?I didn't say Gronk did anything illegal. My use of the word prudent has nothing to do with legality, but everything to do with an adult using sound judgement and common sense.
See above, No person would think that a parent would let their 16 year old go out of the country by themselves, let alone go to a bar alone where it would be illegal in the USEh, not a lawyer, but not sure I'd wanna risk that.
exactly it was just a "kiss" (and was most likely exaggerated by the 16 year oldGronk wasn't dating these chicks and texting them about how their Algebra test went.

I'm also putting this into my google calendar to remind you of in... 14 years? Is that about right? 15?
On a serious note, I agree the splitting of legal hairs is silly, and yeah, he's young. But he's vulnerable. I don't begrudge him his fun, but I also don't want to see him get in trouble--and not just because he's the greatest TE ever to lace up cleats.
