First off, kudos to an historic run by TSC the past month. The streak had to end eventually so let's start another one.

This win will be made with bits of real panther, so you know its good.

To be honest, I'l almost glad it's over. I was spending way too much time trying to find lyrics and videos that were applicable to the Bruins current situation.

Next time I start a string of game threads, it will be a simple Date - Opponent with WIN as the body of the text.

I just realized I've been thinking Pierre LeBrun was Pierre McGuire for a very long time. I knew who Pierre McGuire was, when I mute the fuckhats on TSN he's still yelling at me, but for some reason I thought LeBrun was the same guy.

I need to think this over.

Just for fun, I rewatched Game 6 of the 2008 playoffs. Man, those teams are completely different today

Montreal lines
A. Kostitsyn-Plekanec-Kovalev
Higgins-Koivu-S. Kostitsyn
Begin-Smolinski-Kostopoulos
Streit-Lapierre-Dandeneault

Komisarek-Markov
Gorges-Boullion
Brisebois-Hamrlik

Price
Halak

Boston lines
Lucic-Savard-Kessel
Sturm-Krejci-Murray
Axelsson-Metropolit-Nokelainen
Schaeffer-Sobotka-Thornton

Chara-Ward
Stuart-Wideman
Hnidy-Ference

Thomas
Auld

That bottom 6 for Montreal was a joke. And that was the best team in the Eastern Conference.

On the flip side, we thought Glen Murray was a great scorer, so take that however you want. It also says a bit that there are only 6 players in that game still active with the Bruins (Savard doesn't count).

I take that Habs top six over today's:

Cammalleri - Desharnais - Cole
Pacioretty - Plekanec - Gionta

That series though, Begin-Smolinski-Kostopolous absolutely dominated the B's. For whatever reason, they seemed to channel the Legion of Doom whenever they stepped over the boards.

Man I do not miss the days where the Bruins were the shrimps, relatively speaking. Just an ugly bottom nine outside of Krejci.

Well couple things. No one that year, at all, thought Glen Murray was a top scorer. We were begging for him to be bought out. I loved the guy, but he had completely lost it by then and was begging to be put out to pasture. Also, Kessel was playing with Sturm and Krejci, and that line was great in Game 6. Krejci was just showing flashes of what he could do, Sturm was an animal, and Kessel was motivated by the benching and was tearing it up.

Also the Metropolit line was actually the 4th line for the Habs, but PSK is right they were unreal against the B's. And I totally forgot that Streit played forward for them. Damn.

Metropolit joined the Habs the next season. And yeah, I put down that Kessel was on the top line with Lucic and Savard, but by the 3rd, he was with Sturm and Krejci, and that line was crazy fast.

Haha woops, I was definitely misplacing my Metropolit years. I was meaning to say the Smolinski line.

And you're right that Kessel was with Savard in the beginning because Savard is the one that tipped the puck to Kessel from his butt to start his rush on the first goal, good call.

Correct

End of the first:

Boston roughing - 2 min 20:00, Z. Chara
Montreal roughing - 2 min 20:00, S. Begin

Kessel goal was at 1:54 of the 2nd.

That game is when I decided to purchase the season tickets. I was there, it was awesome, and I decided I couldn't miss a game like that in the future. I took the plunge about a week later.

Funny you mention that game though. Tomorrow is Sturm's first game back since being traded. Feels like the Sturm trade was a lifetime ago, but it's only been about a year (granted, he didn't suit up for the B's due to injury last year). I'm hoping for a Goal Face montage on the jumbotron.

Edit: Also, aside from the Cup team last year, the '07/'08 team might be my favorite B's team. They had absolutely no talent and had no business being anywhere near the playoffs, but man did they go to work every single night.

I want to make love to that crowd, and tell it to have patience and that everything will be alright.

I love that the current team (including last year of course) has the same heart and compete level of that team, but now has serious talent to back it up.

Sturm was such a warrior for this team during those years, game 6 put the Bruins back on the map and he was a big reason for that.

scores!
5-4 Boston!

Say what you will about Jack but that was an awesome call. Say those first 3 words and every Bruin fan will stop what he (Orshee) is doing and smile.

And yeah, hard to believe it's Sturm's first goal back. Hope they have a nice welcome ready for him. I'm looking forward to it...

That guy was one of the few legitimate talents on those teams that were desperate for some. After Bergeron went down, he was quite simply the man on the second line. I'd always have a soft spot for him without Game 6 - but considering his game 5 shortie (below), game 6 performance, and just being an overall good soldier through his whole trade saga last year, I'll always love the guy.

The thing about that game is it gave birth to today's team. They were the beginning of the team mantra of "be hard to play against." Back then, that meant that opposing teams might win, but they'd regret having to go through the Bruins. Today, the talent's been upgraded (you know, since PJ Axelsson isn't playing on the first line anymore) AND they put their opponents through hell for whatever success they get. Ask Sidney Crosby how a game against Boston feels. Or the Vancouver Canucks collectively. Hell, ask those Candiens players.

Really, that's what the streak made me think about. In 2007, the Bruins were playing the Oilers, and a ticket rep called me offering corner loge tickets for $50. On Johnny Bucyk night. Today, I'm not sure I could walk up to the Garden with $50 in my hand and get a ticket into the building. When you look at it like that, it's amazing what this organization has done in just about 5 years.

Pertaining to tonight's contest, FLA has acquired Krys Barch from DAL.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=382170

He is in Boston for the game. I know this because I was on his American Airlines DFW --> BOS flight last night. I had a brief convo with him as we were getting our bags (his included his Stars equipment bag and a pack of Easton Stealth RS sticks).

It was an interesting insight into the life of a traded player. It all happened yesterday and he was put out on a flight here to meet up with his new team instead of heading to San Jose with the Stars. He seemed pretty frazzled about the whole thing and mentioned how he had two young kids at home in Texas.

I suppose it's the way of life for professional athletes and comes with the territory. It would suck if our employers could do that to us in a similar fashion.

Sure its not easy, but if my employer was willing to pay me almost a million a year I'd let em trade me to Saskatchewan. "Suck" isn't quite the word I'd use. Frazzling, yeah, especially with young ones at home.

My friend is being told by his employer he can either move to Raleigh or lose his job. It's basically the same thing except he doesn't get paid nearly as much, but he does get some time to decide whether to quit or go.

Not that it doesn't still suck for Barch, though. But it can happen to non-athletes too.

I happened to catch him on NHL Home Ice radio on my way to school. He definitely came across as both relieved (he has been an almost-consistent healthy scratch this season and probably just welcomes the chance to play again) and shocked (he left the family in Texas, and one of his kids was in his ear while he mentioned he'd be on the 5:30 pm to Boston yesterday). It can't be fun knowing that your first game with your new team likely involves Round 3 with Shawn Thornton, but he's taking it like a champ.
