This is kind of the problem with saber style calculations in football to me. This question is very important based on who you're playing. If you're playing the Ravens or Steelers, you definitely want the points because they may not come again. If you're playing the Packers or Patriots, you may want the safety because you want to keep their offense of the field.

Why is this a problem with SABR style calculations in football?

The same could be said of many situations in baseball.

"With a 2 run lead, is it better to hit a home run off the closer to start the 9th inning or have a 17 pitch at-bat?"

Sounds terrible - but its just so predictable that teams just exploit DMC in a way that they couldnt even do Ellis Hobbs.

This has been a theme all year - I wonder what was on the tape from last year that turned him from best young corner in the NFL to scrub.

More like 1 and it was a perfect pass. Still.

On that replay - at the point of release he was way ahead. But yeah, great toss.

These announcers are unprepared. Patriots did the same defensive line move last week. Nice job on your homework boys. Fail.

Mccourty has to be one of the biggest disappointments on this Pats team. Just a complete failure to reproduce a great rookie season.

You'd think running over and killing another human being might cause a man to cease dancing on a football field.

More bend but don't break.

Or get fucked by McCourty but recover. Whichever sounds better.

These announcers are idiots. Patriots did the same defensive line move last week.

In their defense, he conjectured that they practiced that all week.

Who knows - I think he's just a step slower, partly due to injury partly due to God knows what.

I mean, it's not like teams suddenly realized he can't handle X, Y, or Z in March after they had 17 weeks in 2010 to figure it out.

Two goalline stuffs, a false start, an incompletion, and a field goal. Didn't this EXACT scenario play out last week?

Most of his worst coverage mishaps seem to happen on straight down the field routes. He is moderately good within 15 yards, and then just falls apart when running down the field. I wonder if teams just took a season to pick up on that pattern.

DMC has been frustrating as hell this year. But I'm not buying some of the people saying he's been getting beat. He's not - he was in position to make a play on the ball on both of the Stallworth completions on that drive. The problem, similar to Darius Butler, is ball skills. He's not making plays on the ball. He's not looking back in time. His coverage really isn't all that bad - these guys aren't wide open. Both the completions were on good passes. But he was in position to make a play both times and just didn't. Frustrating as hell.
