[Jed Zeppelin]

Goes to a little place called Cornell, you might have heard of it. Right Winger listed at 6'2" 200. Has put up 5-7-12 through 10 games. ECAC Rookie of the Month, National Rookie of the Month, US World Jr. candidate, steal of a 4th rounder. I guess being a hockey player from Jacksonville unfairly hurts one's draft stock, kind of like getting high and failing a drug test. A lot to like so far. Hopefully he can make his way onto the US team. He apparently was very impressive at the NT camp.

Brian Ferlin has made the preliminary WJC roster. Knight's absence is related to politics more than anything. Looks like there will be a few B's prospects to keep an eye on in the WJC's later this month. Ferlin for the US, Hamilton and Spooner both playing for Canada.

That's alright. Knight seems like the kind of guy you want playing with as many chips on his shoulders as possible.

Khokhlachev will be on Russia's roster as well.

Textbook USA hockey - handicap yourself because you're butthurt that the best prospects don't prefer the US NTDP or NCAA route.

edit: Good for Ferlin, he looked great in the couple of times I've seen him play live (fantastic accuracy in particular), but this USA hockey old boys' club determining (in part) the professional advancement of 18-19 year old kids who may not want to "play ball" by developing in what is for many an inferior league is really sickening.

Ferlin is another guy who made a great case for himself to be in the mix at the National Junior Evaluation Camp. The funny thing about that is, he wasn’t even supposed to be there. Ferlin took Bandon Saad’s spot when Saad declined his invitation.

Ferlin made the most of the opportunity and remained in camp the whole way, getting past any cuts. Since then, he’s been cruising in his freshman season at Cornell. He’s been a key part of the Big Red’s production and continues to prove that his offensive abilities shown in the USHL weren’t a fluke, but the norm.

Ferlin has grown a lot in the last few years and he’s looking more and more like a big time prospect. He may end up being a steal for the Bruins who picked him up in the fourth round after Ferlin went undrafted in 2010.

He’s got a great frame and can skate. That size is a big advantage for him and it could lead to Ferlin getting a spot on the final roster. He’s got to beat out a few other guys, but there’s a good chance he’s in Alberta.

Why does nobody list his position? I've never heard of this kid. Might be cool to start adding position into the title of the threads.

How did we end up with this kid in the 4th round? Seems like a better player than that.

He's a RW. Two years ago he was basically JAG with 16 points in the USHL. Something clicked last year in his 2nd USHL season to the tune of 25-48-73 +26. That got him on the USA hockey radar but I'm guessing the fact that he was 19 instead of 18 at the time of the draft had a lot to do with his slip to the 4th. I think he was viewed as something of a project as well but maybe not so much anymore. From what I've read he has a pretty good all-around game right now.

Ferlin had a lot going against his draft stock. He played his youth hockey in Florida, not exactly a hockey hotbed. Then he went to the USHL and only put up 6-10-16 in 57 games in 2010, the first year he was eligible for the draft. Then he exploded last year with 25-48-73 totals to finish third in the USHL in scoring, but he played on a line with the first and second highest scorers. So heading into the 2011 draft teams didn't know if he was a legit late bloomer or if he was just a guy who had already been passed over in the draft once who was putting up numbers in an inferior junior league as a product of stellar linemates. It certainly looks like more of the former in the early going.

Hard to say. It seems like he is a better skater than Caron (maybe significantly better). Somewhat tougher to judge at this point but he may be more offensively skilled.

After missing the cut for USA's debacle of a WJC roster, Ferlin has put up 1-2-3 totals in Cornell's first two games coming out of the winter break. His totals now stand at 6-9-15, +11 in 13 games; he is tied for the team lead in points with Penguins D prospect Nick D'Agostino.

Finished the season with 10 goals and 14 assists. Saw him play on Saturday night and he is one feisty bastard.
