Nationals have a home game on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN.

That's gotta be a franchise first, right?

They had the season opener a few years back against the Braves on Sunday Night Baseball. It was the first game at the new ballpark.

Outside of that, I'd have to believe it's the first.

Ramos has torn ACL, likely done for year

http://washington.na...ws_was&c_id=was

Wilson tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee Saturday night in Washington's 2-1 victory against Cincinnati at Great American Ball Park. He suffered the injury in the seventh inning as he chased after a ball that had ricocheted off his glove on a pitch from Jordan Zimmermann.

Maldonado joins Nats as Leon hits DL

http://washington.na...ok_was&c_id=was

The Nationals placed catcher Sandy Leon on the 15-day disabled list with a high right ankle sprain and selected the contract of catcher Carlos Maldonado from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.

To make room for Maldonado on the 40-man roster, the team also transferred catcher Wilson Ramos to the 60-day disabled list.

Nats Call up Another Catcher, Send Tracy to the DL, Morse starts rehab

http://washington.na...s#disqus_thread

The Nationals optioned Tyler Moore to Triple-A Syracuse following Monday's 5-3 loss to the Marlins, and they will recall catcher Jhonatan Solano to bolster depth at the position.

*This is the Nats 5th different catcher on the Major League Roster this season

With an MRI exam scheduled for Tuesday in Philadelphia, infielder Chad Tracy was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right adductor strain on Monday.
Tracy injured his groin during Saturday's 8-4 win against the Braves, when he hobbled into second following a pinch-hit double to break a 4-4 tie.

*Tracy has been a key contributor coming off the bench this season. Losing him will hurt their bench depth.

Outfielder Michael Morse is inching closer to a return from the disabled list, and he will report to Class A Potomac on Tuesday to begin his rehab assignment.

Morse could rejoin the Nats by Thursday's off-day in time for their six-game homestand against National League East foes Atlanta and New York, and could begin playing left field again by June 6, if not sooner.

*Morse can't return soon enough...

Nationals DFA Brad Lidge

http://espn.go.com/m...ated-assignment

Lidge signed a $1 million, one-year contract as a free agent in the offseason to add veteran bullpen depth behind closer Drew Storen and All-Star Tyler Clippard, but the 35-year-old right-hander couldn't find the form that made him a two-time All-Star with Houston and Philadelphia. He went 0-1 with two saves and a 9.64 ERA in 11 appearances with the Nationals, and opponents were batting .308 against him.

Drew Storen Returns

http://www.masnsport...likely-dfa.html

The lineup card has been posted in the Nationals clubhouse for today's 12:35 p.m. game against the Mets, and right-hander Drew Storen is listed among the available pitchers. That's a signal Storen has been activated from the disabled list following recovery from surgery to remove a bone chip from his right elbow.
Outfielder Rick Ankiel is not listed among the bench players. His locker been cleaned out and his nameplate has been removed.
It appears the veteran outfielder has been designated for assignment to accommodate Storen's return to the 25-man roster. The team has not yet officially announced a roster move.

Sandy Leon back with the Nationals

http://www.washingto...QiuvW_blog.html

Sandy Leon was called up to the major leagues on May 13 and the next day he made his debut, a joyous moment for any baseball player and one that brought his mother to tears upon hearing of her son’s promotion. It was a cruel debut, however, one that lasted only four innings after a vicious, but clean, collision at the plate that resulted in a high-ankle sprain for the 23-year old catcher.

Ian Desmond headed to the DL

http://www.washingto...6pv2W_blog.html

Ian Desmond, the Nationals’ all-star shortstop and perhaps most important position player this season, is headed to the disabled list with a left oblique tear and could be out a couple of weeks, Manager Davey Johnson said.

Posted this in the Nat's gamethread, but it probably belongs here.

Wasn't sure where to put this, but I saw Jayson Werth rehabbing with the Syracuse Chiefs in Rochester last night. He didn't look good. Got to 3-1 in his first at bat and then went down swinging. Second at bat went down swinging on 4 pitches. Third at bat hit a sharp grounder on the second pitch, but right at the second baseman for an easy out. Overall he looked overmatched against a pretty mediocre pitcher; Shairon Martis making his second start at AAA who had 4 Ks over 6 innings and gave up 3 ER to lower his ERA to 8.50. I don't think Werth is close to having his timing back yet at the plate. FWIW, he played CF but didn't have any balls hit to him and was taken out after the 6th inning..

Tracy returns from DL to bolster Nats' bench

http://washington.na...ok_was&c_id=was

The Nationals reinstated Chad Tracy from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday, bringing back the team's best bat off the bench. To make room on the 25-man roster, Corey Brown was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

Nats acquire catcher Suzuki from A's

http://washington.na...ws_was&c_id=was

Washington gave up Minor League catcher David Freitas in exchange for Suzuki and cash considerations. Nationals manager Davey Johnson said Suzuki will immediately become the club's starting catcher, with Jesus Flores becoming the backup. The assumption is that Sandy Leon will be optioned upon Suzuki's arrival, which should come before Saturday's game against the Marlins.

Nats claim Izturis off waivers from Brewers

http://washington.na...ws_was&c_id=was

Nationals manager Davey Johnson was struck by the thought this weekend that Washington was lacking middle-infield depth, a need the club addressed Monday by claiming shortstop Cesar Izturis off waivers from the Brewers.

Johnson said he realized how few options he had when Mark DeRosa injured his left groin and Danny Espinosa got banged up on a headfirst slide into second base on Sunday. Also, shortstop Ian Desmond is still on the disabled list. So, they placed DeRosa on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Sunday, and designated left-hander Atahualpa Severino for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster for Izturis.
