After that debacle on Sunday, let's look towards the Giants. Winners of 4 of their last 5 games, they come into Foxboro off of a 20-17 come-from-behind victory over the LOLphins. They lost to the Redskins to open the year and have beaten St. Louis, Philly, and Arizona and lost inexplicably to Seattle. Eli is having a good year throwing for 2,127 yards, 65% completion percentage, 13 TD-5 INT, and has a rating of 102.1. Hakeem Nicks, who injured his hammy against Miami but should be good to go on Sunday, leads the team in receptions(38) and yards (575) while Victor Cruz leads the team in receiving TDs with 4. Ahmad Bradshaw leads the team in rushing with 440 yards(4.0 per carry) and 5 TDs. They are expected to get WR Ramses Barden off the PUP list this week as well. They are ranked 5th in DVOA team offense rankings.

Defensively, they have been ravaged by injuries before the year even started. Terrell Thomas, Marvin Austin, and Brian Witherspoon were lost for the season and top pick Prince Amukamara is expected to make his debut this week after suffering a broken foot in camp. Osi Umeniyora had a contract dispute plus injuries that has limited him to only 4 games played. But, the time he has been on the field has been productive as he's put up 6 sacks in those 4 games. Justin Tuck has only appeared in 3 games as well. That being said, they are as healthy as they've been all year. DVOA-wise, they are ranked 12th.

It will be a tough game to win even at home. The Giants can throw the ball to a number of different receivers, but IMO their offensive line isn't as good as Pittsburgh's showed to be on Sunday so I think Eli can be pressured. Nicks will prove to be a tough cover and Cruz, the UMass product, has made some big plays as well. Bradshaw is a tough runner.

I'll be making my yearly appearance at the Blade this week so they better win.

As a Giants fan I have no idea what to expect. They are so inconsistent that a Pats blowout to a Giants victory wouldn't surprise me.

As you said, Eli is having a good season and, just like last year imo, he could be having a better one if it wasn't for so many tipped/dropped balls from his receiving core.

Our defense is getting healthier by the week and last week during the final drive vs the fins seing JPP, Osi, and Tuck all out there made me hard.

I don't think there is a question that the Pats are the favorites, but we do match up pretty well with our ability to spread the field with our offense and our willingness to put a lot of pressure on the QB.

Yes, your Giants do match up well.

What's your gut on whether your corners will press at the line?

To add some other key players on IR for the Giants:

LB Clint Sintim
WR Domenik Hixon

CHFF uses a nice statistic called passer rating differential (teams offensive passer rating minus it's defensive passer rating) to predict games and it's been fairly accurate in the past, the higher the rating the better...

NYG is +22.6 (102.1 OPR and 79.5 DPR) which is good for 4th best in the league.
NE is +11.5 (104.4 OPR and 92.9 DPR) which is good for 10th best in the league.

As much as I hate to say it, I think the Giants win on Sunday because their pass defense is significantly better than New Englands.

edit: Only five teams in the league have a worse passing defense than the Pats: Vikings, Panthers, Dolphins, Broncos and the Colts.

A neck injury for Wes Welker kept him out of practice on Wednesday.

Looks to be hurt on the play where Polamalu twisted his head around on a tackle.

But Polamalu plays the game the right way. Just a hard-nosed football play by a hard-nosed football player.

Giants WR Hakeem Nicks says he'd rather sit this week and not risk worsening hamstring injury. Hasn't ruled out playing vs. NE yet, though.

They are out for this game. The Pats have the deck stacked in their favor in this one. Lose it, and you might as well post a hurricane warning.

I think it's no small factor that they've played progressively better defenses.

But, hooray graphs.

Except PIT who is 15th in DVOA. I do think there is some truth the to #'s.

PIT's DVOA is extremely deceptive, but, yes, the offense has slipped since the first three weeks of the season. Still, though, I'm not worried - they've got a lot of talent and continuity on that side of the ball.

Well, to be fair, the "let Welker rack up 200 yards a game" offense wasn't bound to last forever.

YAY:

The Patriots have added receiver Taylor Price to the injury report tonight. Price is listed with a hamstring injury and is questionable for Sunday's game against the Giants.

If Bradshaw and Nicks are out that is HUGE for the Pats. Fuck.

I'm just not sure if we can put enough points on the board without them.

How about Jacobs in the starring role as The Punisher? If the Giants can establish the run, Eli will do the rest.

Establish the run??

Against the PATRIOTS?

I have a feeling that nowhere in Coughlin's gameplan for this matchup are the words "establish the run" except under a very specific alternate scenario in which Eli Manning, Mario Manningham, Victor Cruz and Jake Ballard are all raptured

Montana, to me it seems like Jacobs forgets he's 265 lbs and has become soft. I loved the way he ran his first couple of seasons in the league but he's been disappointing to say the least.

Hopefully he can step up.

I think even in that scenario, Coughlin would still have faith in Carr to Jernigan.

I'm hoping that a pissed off Jacobs will run hard today. I definitely agree that for a couple of years Jacobs thought he was an end around type. Last year he hit the inside holes better. I'm not excited about him pounding it into Wilfork and Haynesworth but like the idea of him off tackle behind Ballard. If the Giants can run the ball today, they can win. I don't want a gunfight with Brady. The Giants can't win today if the Pats score 30 and a shootout with the unpredictable Eli at the helm doesn't lead to success IMO.

Keeping the Pats best unit on the sideline will give the Giants their best chance to win. I'm thinking 24-20 or 21-16 G-men.

Better yet perhaps Ridley will see the field this week. RB depth is not a concern on this team, if anything they have too many.
