4:45 p.m. ET: C.J. Wilson has a six-year offer from a team other than the Rangers, reports Jeff Wilson. MLB Trade Rumors notes the Rangers, Angels, Nationals, Marlins and that dreaded "mystery team" are currently in the mix for Wilson's services. If he comes off the market, expect the heat to increase on the already-beloved Mark Buehrle. The two are easily the best left-handed starters out there.
2:06 p.m. ET: Sherman reports that the Braves are one of the teams waiting for free agents Buehrle and C.J. Wilson to sign -- because the Braves will then see if the trade interest in Jair Jurrjens picks up.
4:26 p.m. ET: The Rays are "making a serious run" at Willingham, tweets ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick. Rosenthal tweets that the Rays aren't close, but are one of the three to four finalists to land Willingham.
2:35 p.m. ET: Rollins' agent -- Dan Lozano -- met with Phillies officials last night and talks "did not go well at all," according to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com. The report indicates Rollins and Lozano are not backing down from the intially requested five-year contract.
3:18 p.m. ET: Miller reports the Phillies are "definitely" in on Ramirez, but that the Angels (and "others") are also very interested.

So did i miss the part where it was ever confirmed, much less reasonably speculated, that Texas was ever offering CJ Wilson a 6 year deal?

Jim_Duquette Jim Duquette Source- Nationals have offered a 6th year to CJ Wilson.

There was another report about players not being interested in the Nats money. So I guess they added a sixthyear.

Strasburg Zimmerman and Wilson make a wonderful 1-3 punch...they really need a bat though.

What are you talking about? They have Jayson Werth, he's totally due for a bounce back year

Well, I would not count them out on Fielder. Plus, the Nats are counting on a healthy year from Ryan Zimmerman.

With Harper and Rendon around the corner, Espinosa on the come-up, and Zimmerman in his peak, they'll be fine. Mike Morse can swing it and Jayson Werth will perform better.Strasburg Zimmerman and Wilson make a wonderful 1-3 punch...they really need a bat though.

I'm not sold on Morse, a cornerstone 1B would help. Hell, Gaby Sanchez would even help if Miami signs Pujols, they have enough pitching depth to make it happen.

How serious are the Miami Marlins about their push to sign Albert Pujols? The team scheduled a second meeting of the day with Pujols' agent, Dan Lozano, for Monday night.
The two sides met for about a half-hour Monday afternoon, and a source familiar with the meeting said that session was "very positive, very upbeat." There was no indication of whether the Marlins increased their original nine-year offer in the first meeting. But one NL executive who spoke with the team said they scheduled a second meeting to try to get a clear picture of Pujols' sincere level of interest in coming to Miami and hope to know soon "one way or the other."

They still have LaRoche on the roster. I don't know if the Nats wants 3 first basemen on their roster. Although this is totally assuming that LaRoche stays healthy, which isn't a guarantee

That doesn't make any sense. Sanchez has 1335 PA's in the big leagues and Morse has 1260. Morse's career wRC+ is 131 and Sanchez's is 113. Why are you more sold on Sanchez as an upgrade over Morse's bat when he's been clearly superior in nearly the same amount of PA?I'm not sold on Morse, a cornerstone 1B would help. LaRoche will have zero impact on whether they bid for Fielder. If they want a big time first baseman, they'll make a play for one and either trade or dump LaRoche before the season starts.

Was talking in regards to trading for Gaby Sanchez.

The objection still applies. If they think Sanchez is worth trading for, LaRoche won't factor in. He's coming off of surgery for a torn labrum and a partially torn rotator cuff. And that's on the heels of a sub .800 OPS season. The two are obviously related, but he's 31 years old and I don't see why they'd hold off on making a trade that they think could make the team better for him.
Now, I agree with temple that Morse is probably as good a bet, and he's already in house, so I'm not seeing much reason to trade for Sanchez, but LaRoche is likely to be a non-factor when deciding what to do about first base this off season.

Point being that Sanchez is not enough of an upgrade to justify trading when they already have 2 in house options. I'm not saying LaRoche should be considered if they have an upgrade available I'm just saying that Sanchez isn't that upgrade.

He would be a cheap fourth/fifth OF for a good team, with tremendous upside. He was the best position player on the 2010 Giants, if we put any stock in his defensive numbers. Still, that's sort of a backhanded compliment.
The weirdest thing about Torres' very weird career is that the 2009 Giants, a club who scored all of 657 runs, kept a CF with a .876 OPS in limited time on the bench behind Fred Lewis, Aaron Rowand, and Randy Winn, none of whom even came close to a 100 OPS+. He didn't get his shot until Rowand was injured.
Where could he land?
#80
Posted 06 December 2011 - 04:52 AM
Torres could help most teams in the league as a 4th/5th OF, even if he's a true 90 OPS+ guy because he's a great defender, a very good baserunner and can take a walk. I think he's better than that, so he could be a steal.

Any clue how much they offered? I can't open twitter links at work.
No indication yet. But it was said that this is the offer that the Cards need to match, that Pujols hasn't made a decision yet and that the Marlins are going to meet with his agent again today. Link Link Link
BTW I was just wondering if Pujols is using the Marlins to drive up the Cards price? Anyone else wondering that? It's not like we've never seen that before.

I'm not sure he has to. The Cardinals offer was 9 years, and there's a good enough chance the Marlins offer isn't that close in AAV.

Multiple media outlets reported Tuesday that the Marlins have offered Albert Pujols a 10-year contract. The money involved in the offer has not been disclosed.
The offer trumps the nine-year, $195 million contract the St. Louis Cardinals offered their star slugger before the season.

I'm surprised that St. Louis thinks he'll sign for that little.

It's for 200 Mill+ over 10 years. Btw the Marlins are kinda looking foolish right now. If they do sign him and he does play out the life of his contract (as I doubt they'll be able to trade him by the time they'll want to)he'll get 10-5 rights anyway and have a full no trade clause. Why not just include a partial one to get the deal done?

Once people became realistic and realized they aren't getting a premier bat, probably someone. I would be shocked if he signed for 8 million.
