A little bit of a stretch for a new thread, but while we wait on the hopefully inevitable Cashman extension announcement (his deal is up on Monday), it's being reported that the Angels have passed on Damon Oppenheimer, good news for NY.

Or maybe he's brash because he knows they want him and he isn't going anywhere and has nothing to lose. He no longer has the 'big stein' breathing down his neck and has very little pressure at this point now that he's (probably) set for life. Life is good.

He might've been sending a message that if they wanted him back, they could either let him do his job or they could look forward to more of the same. Putting his foot down that he's gonna be making the decisions going forward.

Some big moves yesterday, I should probably start a new thread, but Billy Eppler got promoted to assistant GM, making him the clear replacement for Cashman whenever that day comes, hopefully not for a while yet.

Also they signed Jim Hendry as a scout, he was the Cubs GM for close to ten years before being fired in the middle of 2011.

In other front office news, Deadspin/A.J. Daulerio still really really really want us to care about Cashman's affairs. In this story they even say that he's been separated from his wife since 2009, making this story really uninteresting. I thought Daulerio went to Gawker? This is the worst side of Deadspin.

Yeah, that was the point of my post two posts up. There wasn't one until a couple of days ago, but now it seems to be Eppler, presumably in part to try to stop anyone else from snapping him up in the meantime.

The fact that Cashman and his lawyer contacted Louise Meanwell's mother and tried to persuade her to have her daughter institutionalized or they would file a criminal complaint and have her arrested means this is going to get a lot messier for him.

From the details that are coming out, it's possible (if not probable) that this woman is a Fatal Attraction-level stalker. Of course, just because the woman is (allegedly) crazy doesn't mean she can't ruin your life if you ultimately reject her...
