A little bit of a stretch for a new thread, but while we wait on the hopefully inevitable Cashman extension announcement (his deal is up on Monday), it's being reported that the Angels have passed on Damon Oppenheimer, good news for NY.

I wish the Cashman thing was done and announced already, maybe they're just waiting for the WS to end but it's making me nervous.

@SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman
Yankees exec billy eppler was called for 2nd interview by angels, but damon oppenheimer did not get 2nd call.

Perhaps Moreno and Scioscia are looking for another puppet and Oppenheimer didn't vibe with that.

"What are you talking about? We played Napoli more in one year out of his five with us than the Rangers did this year, despite his inconvenient DL status this year. Besides, Premium, man. Premium. Also, it was all Tony's idea! GET OFF MY FUCKING LAWN!"

Sincerely, Best Manager in Baseball.

Rosenthal is reporting Jerry DiPoto (from Arizona) got the Angels' GM job, so it looks like both Eppler and Oppenheimer will be back.

Wow. Is this a thank you for trading them Haren for Joe Saunders? Talk about a lateral move. What a flawed organization.

Well you don't want anyone good in the front office. They might make decisions, instead of taking Scioscia's advice.

3 year deal in place with Cashman. They are just waiting for the WS to end to announce it. You can cross that off your list, ja.

I'm really surprised he's coming back. After the way he's been overruled by the boys and the comments he's made over the last year or so I figured he had enough.

Or maybe he's brash because he knows they want him and he isn't going anywhere and has nothing to lose. He no longer has the 'big stein' breathing down his neck and has very little pressure at this point now that he's (probably) set for life. Life is good.

He was probably already set for life and now he just has dumber Steins breathing down his neck. That doesn't explain it.

He might've been sending a message that if they wanted him back, they could either let him do his job or they could look forward to more of the same. Putting his foot down that he's gonna be making the decisions going forward.

I don't think Hank is anywhere near as involved in the decision making as he was say in 2007.

Cashman said all the right things in the press conference too. The Yankees need pitching, pitching and more pitching.

Some big moves yesterday, I should probably start a new thread, but Billy Eppler got promoted to assistant GM, making him the clear replacement for Cashman whenever that day comes, hopefully not for a while yet.

Also they signed Jim Hendry as a scout, he was the Cubs GM for close to ten years before being fired in the middle of 2011.

In other front office news, Deadspin/A.J. Daulerio still really really really want us to care about Cashman's affairs. In this story they even say that he's been separated from his wife since 2009, making this story really uninteresting. I thought Daulerio went to Gawker? This is the worst side of Deadspin.

Just curious, is there a number two man behind Cashman? A Ben Cherrington- so to speak.

Or is it the Stenbrothers?

Yeah, that was the point of my post two posts up. There wasn't one until a couple of days ago, but now it seems to be Eppler, presumably in part to try to stop anyone else from snapping him up in the meantime.

More Cashman news....crazy woman tries to extort Brian Cashman.

I originally saw it posted on ESPN and figured this lady must at least be hot. Then I found a picture.

Didn't she look crazy when you first saw her Mr. Cashman?

Deadspin does a great job breaking down the whole thing. Who is crazier, this broad or Cashman for fucking her (allegedly)?

If Cashman could only abort ARod's contract like he did the fetus (allegedly).

The fact that Cashman and his lawyer contacted Louise Meanwell's mother and tried to persuade her to have her daughter institutionalized or they would file a criminal complaint and have her arrested means this is going to get a lot messier for him.

From the details that are coming out, it's possible (if not probable) that this woman is a Fatal Attraction-level stalker. Of course, just because the woman is (allegedly) crazy doesn't mean she can't ruin your life if you ultimately reject her...

AJ Daulerio, for sitting in that woman's house, wearing Cashman's pajamas and holding his used toothbrush.

She had the balls to correct that woman's grammar. That's the best part of that whole article.
