That is the first thing I thought.

Yeah, you never want to hear forearm. That would be a pretty rough footnote to the last day of the season. Goes without saying but CC has quite a bit of leverage, even if Nova ends up fine.

That's tough.

He threw more innings than he had in his career this year obviously (189.2 IP between minor league stint and playoffs). Maybe that was it? I doubt it though.

Hope it's nothing too serious. He seemed like a decent guy. Not like Martin who I wish severe ill will towards.

He threw 187 last year between AAA and NY, so there wasn't almost any jump.

Maybe constantly burying that slider in the dirt has something to do with it. He never really did that last year. It's something he picked up a few months into the season.

Whew:

"Ivan Nova has a Grade 1 flexor strain of his right forearm.

After being pulled from last night’s game, Nova saw Dr. Christopher Ahmad today at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and had an MRI, which revealed the injury.

The Yankees say the injury is expected to heal without complications this winter."

That may explain why his slider wasn't diving well last night. Kudos to Girardi for yanking him before it got any worse.

Wasn't Chamberlain's injury initially reported as a flexor strain? Obviously since Nova's already been MRIed it's not likely to be something more serious, but it seems like guys who start out having these forearm injuries end up with TJ within 2-3 years.

Edit: From Rotoworld, June 8th:

Yankees placed RHP Joba Chamberlain on the 15-day disabled list with a strained flexor muscle.

My basic instinct is not to believe anything professional sports teams say when it comes to the health of their players. Let's see how Nova looks in spring training, 2012.

Also, Nova's injury makes it easier to stomach the Yankees going down. They had no chance in the ALCS without him.
