I don't know, he sucked in this series. The Yankees would probably come out of that only giving him a 30% raise.

Here is how it will pan out:

Posted Image

"Hey Moe, what type of deal should we give him?"

Posted Image

"Give him a small raise, nothing stupid"

Posted Image

"Ok, got it"

"Hey, CC, due to a poor second half, you only get a $1 million/year raise for the next 10 years.

I did it, Mo, I did it!"

Posted Image

"You schmuck, you! Come over here"

Nice sig choice. That was an amazing article.

I completely agree about that article. My wife and I just had a daughter in August so Posnanski's story really hit home.

So glad CC, Jeter and Arod could not get it done when the Yankees desperately needed it.

Swish with routine answers. I'm betting he has played his last game in a NYY uni.

That would be a very dumb bet.

NY with 13 baserunners and no DPs, just 2 runs is a truly epic fail.

The anti-Red Sox: The Tigers have not lost consecutive games since Aug. 28-29.

Edit: Wow, just read that NYY have a $10.25 mm option for 2012. Hard to imagine they exercise that.
This made me go check out cots contracts and while looking at Swish's deal I noticed that Granderson gets a $2M bump to his 2013 club option if he is the MVP this year or thr next. Its already getting a $1M bump because of his allstar selection. Not that it'll bankrupt them but... Granderson for MVP!

Ridiculously frustrating to watch. I can't help but think that if they would've sent ARod in the fourth that it might have been a different game, just because it would have put some pressure on Fister. Instead he got the major mental boost of escaping the bases loaded jam.

Pettitte goes away last year.
Beeker goes away this year.
Rivera after 2012?
Jeter 2013?

It's strange that there is a small chance they each leave one after another instead of some of them together. I wonder if Rivera will stick around for Jeter.

It really didn't look like he had much of a chance, even with the off line throw.

First time since '06 that the Yankees or Red Sox won't be in the ALCS.

I was only listening on the radio tonight, but Sterling (I know, take it with a grain of salt) said the throw was going to the cutoff man.

Interesting game. Best team won. It was an amazing run for the Yanks with a questionable rotation of misfits.

I honestly never expected them to go the whole way, and was pleased they were able to accomplish what they did with no big trades during the season.

Hope next season some of the guys come back in better shape. Several looked a bit heavy this season, especially CC.

Based on the story I read, reporters asked him if it was his final game as a Yankee and he started tearing up and ended the interview, all while saying he didn't know.

Is it weird for Miguel Cabrera to be in one of these champagne celebrations? Regardless, I'm glad his team beat the Yankees even if it created that conundrum.

It was non-alcoholic champagne.

It sounds like the Nova injury is pretty serious, and I'm guessing he wouldn't have been available to pitch the rest of the postseason if NY had pulled this one out.

So look on the bright side. This loss saved you from having to watch Burnett be the #2 in a seven game series vs Texas. That would have been fun.

that's good to hear. I'm sure the whole celebration atmosphere would challenge Cabrera's sobriety almost no matter what but it's good to know that Detroit did something to ease that for him. Also good that VM's son was not consuming/spraying alcoholic champagne.

Someone (wingack?) noted last night that the Yanks haven't beaten anyone in the ALDS other than the Twins in the last 10 years.

They now have a losing record of 4-5 since 2002.

They beat the Twins 4 times and lost to LAA, LAA, Det, Cle, Det.

you Yanks fan owe a lot to Ron Gardenhire.

The Yanks had 3-4 opportunities to blow the game wide open. They failed to do so. Best of luck to Detroit going forward.

Hear on Mike & Mike that A-Rod is now the first player to have strike out in consecutive years to end a team's postseason. Fairly random stat but typical that it's A-Rod.

There are some absolute gems in the NYYFans "Offseason Plan" thread. This one was my favorite:

1. Release Tex
2. Sign Pujols and Fielder; play Albert in right; fire Swisher
3. "Eliminate" AJ Burnett in an "accident." I'd hire Carl Pavano to do this, but he would botch the job.
4. Trade for King Felix, I don't care how it gets done, just do it
5. Trade Hughes
6. Keep Nova

Noticed how quiet all my facebook friends (from grade school - Junion High 20 years ago) were quiet about 'their Yankees' losing. What a joke they all are. Not ONE of them would ever care to play or talk about baseball with me and now - Yankee fans.

I just got through watching this game and reading the thread. My mind is boggled by the stranded base-runners. And the strandings were not by lesser players but the marquee guys. I never would have expected anything like this game, but I'm pleasantly surprised. Happy Day after YED!

LOL. Maybe the Yankees can play the Phillies in a consolation game, winner take all. I'm sure the folks in Detroit and St. Louis are ecstatic, but right now the ratings for the ALCS and NLCS will have to compete with Gilligan's Island reruns on cable.
