Yankees are the Evil Empire. Playoffs every year since 95 minus 2008. 16 of 17 years. 5 Rings since. Endless division titles. They are never ever outbid when a free agent considers the Yankees seriously. They never lose their best minor league talent. They have undead players who refuse to go away (Jeter, Rivera). The Evil Empire uses a dark force to keep them strong and hold them together. The Phillies would never have enough power to allow a 41 year old closer to dominate let alone a 37 year old SS to keep hitting like a hall of famer.
Embrace who you are. It could be worse, you could be the Ewoks (Without rocks or sticks) of NY (Mets)
Funny stuff. Yanks may always be evil but the Phillies are the Empire. And I can see some evil in Philly. Didn't Jimmy Rollins talk a lot of trash about the Mets? Didn't he rub it in their faces a few years ago? And Philly hired the ultimate free agent mercenary, Cliff Lee, who may not be worth the money after all. In addition, most of the baseball world is rooting for the underdog Cardinals to knock off Philly.
Ruben Amaro is the unquestioned best GM in baseball these days. I'm thinking Pat Gillick was Darth Vader. He brought the Force to Philly.
I just don't like the Star Wars analogy. Yanks may still be an Empire but they are not the No. 1 team in the baseball universe.
