Win or lose, playoffs aren't too far away. The latter would be better though.

Girardi and Cashman suggesting full strength lineup tomorrow and with some AAA kids looking to impress with the ball, could be a tough one for Tampa.

No kidding? I was sure they would put in the 'roll over and die' lineup in order to rest everybody. Impressive.

Yeah, I thought Girardi's rant about only one off day and him using Mariano yesterday meant today was a punt but apparently not.

It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for the Yankees to have the Rays eliminated. No point in risking having a team with that staff, and nothing to lose, entering the ALCS.

Top secret question here but the likely choice is Hughes for two innings. Girardi has said none of his playoff roster pitchers will pitch tonight. So I think we're talking Brackman, Betances, etc. This game figures to be about 8-0 Rays in the third inning anyway.

As suggested earlier, Girardi will get the regular lineup in to start the game. I imagine Montero DHs against Price.

The best way to resolve the wild-card is for Boston and Tampa to meet on Thursday, winner take all.

Betances isn't ready for the bigs yet, in my opinion. He needs a bit more time to get used to these type of hitters, and he's walking too many. Oh well, not too bad though. No pressure situation.

Haven't watched him much, but his stats from AAA dictate what you say. Only real chance is if Price shits all over himself in the first.

The rays losing this one would be almost impossible. Price vs betances and a collection of AAA arms?
Sox have no one to blame but themselves but it sux to see the rays facing noesi, colon and betances in this series..

Well the stats don't tell that 2011 was a bit of a rehab (elbow) year for him. He's definitely not 100% yet, and it really did set back the development a year or so, I think. Agreed with Prince.

Honestly, I don't give a shit any more... I don't care who wins. Who would have thunk it would be interesting to watch games involving Baltimore and Tampa Bay this late in the season. Wild Card races are awesome.

Screw the negativity - color me intrigued. Promising young pitcher that Rays haven't seen before who'll be trying hard to impress.

When the Rays bats go cold ( and they have done suddenly and inexplicably the whole season), it doesn't matter who's pitching. Plus, Price hasn't been great against NY this year.

I predict a narrow NY win. Though I would love to see a tiebreaker in both leagues.

Ironic, that the Rays may have shot future playoff odds in the foot with their late-season run. If this race means the two WC system isn't in place by 2013 or so, as was looking the case, they might not be playing in October for a while.

Girardi going with the playoff team. Atleast to start.

Jeter, Granderson, Tex, Cano (DH), Rodriguez, Swisher, Jones, Montero, Nunez.

Don't sleep on Betances yet. He was ranked the #3 Yankee Prospect in November of last year, and was ranked #43 in all of baseball, according to Baseball America. Yes, he struggled in his major league debut, but so do a lot of kids. His problem was command, as he walked 4 and hit a guy. The kid has some major league caliber stuff, and may perform much better now that he has his first game under his belt. The bottom line is: This is NOT a throwaway starter for the Yankees. This is their top pitching prospect getting some valuable major league experience.

Would I bet on the Yankees winning? No, but don't be so quick to shit on the Yankees chances of winning. After all, they are starting most of their regulars.

1. Jesus Montero, c 2. Gary Sanchez, c 3. Dellin Betances, rhp

He was the last time Baseball America ranked them.

They are 1a and 1b in my book. Dellin has better stuff, Manny has better control. We'll see who becomes better. The point is, Dellin is one of their top pitching prospects, and has some seriously good stuff. He's going to go out there and compete with some electric fastballs tonight.

And many people had Hughes and Joba above guys like Nova and Kennedy. I don't care who is technically the #1 prospect according to whoever, because quite frankly, that doesn't matter. The bottom line is that Betances has some good stuff and is still a highly regarded pitching prospect.

By the way bad news for the Sox,

Rodriguez scratched
Alex Rodriguez has been scratched from the lineup. His right knee is sore.

Betances is only going 2-3 innings tops, Girardi just said. He said they're going to use many pitchers tonight, and Montero is catching because he's caught most of them before, so mostly guys who spent time at Scranton this year.

On the brighter side for Boston fans, Girardi wasn't sure if he'd pull starters before the end of the game or not, he said he'd see how it was going.

A-Rod scratched, Brandon Laird replaces him.
