Two games left in the season, and we're back to zero.
Hopefully when there are zero games left in the season, we are not back two.
Win Tuesday. That's all we ask for now.

The offense is partially to blame for the starter's lack of success this month. Every inning, every pitch is a grind. If the starters could relax a bit knowing the offense gave them a 3 or 4 run lead, there would be some easier innings. Same goes for the defense. Maybe they wouldn't be so tight out there if the game didn't hinge on every chance they get.

To those "Heads will Roll-ers", I say, stop your crying you whining fucking ingrates! Fire Theo? Fire Tito? Fire yourself!
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! THEY HAVEN'T WON SINCE 2007! HOW MUCH LONGER MUST WE WAIT? WAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!
WHAT HAVE WE WON LATELY? ONLY ALL FOUR MAJOR SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPS IN THE PAST SEVEN YEARS? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! WHY CAN'T WE WIN EVERY CHAMPIONSHIP EVERY YEAR??? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
WITH AS BLESSED AS YOU'VE BEEN IN THE PAST TEN YEARS HOW DARE YOU WHINE ABOUT ONE TOUGH MONTH!
STOP YOUR FUCKING WEEPING YOU FUCKING MARYS!
For as terrible as things have gone for us this past month, WE STILL CONTROL OUR DESTINY!
Yes, that may not be a comforting thought given the way they played the past month, but once upon a time, A TIME SOME OF YOU SEEM TOO EAGER TO DISMISS, this organization, this team, this manager, faced a situation much more dire than the one they face now. They were coming off as embarrassing defeat against their bitter rival as any they suffered through in their history. They had both of their aces beaten in the first two games, with one sidelined with an injury with no guarantee that he would ever recover his brilliance in time to help in the series, and they were facing a deficit no team in the history in the sport had ever overcome.
But they had one thing going for them, and it's the same thing this team has: they controlled their own destiny.
If they just won the game that was in front of them, they got to keep playing. Regardless of what any other team in baseball did that night, as long as they won the game in front of them, they got to keep playing. This is exactly what this team is facing. Win the game in front of them, and then keep doing that, and regardless of what any other team in baseball does, they get to keep playing.
We are so damn due for a winning streak.
Now would be a great time.

If you lose 10 "must-win" games and you're still not eliminated, those games aren't really must-win games. They're "It sure would be nice if we won" games. This game is must-win.
Well said...(Though technically we could lose this must win and still make the playoffs, too.)

I was caught off guard as an unattractive middle-aged woman demonstrated exactly what this condition was for a live-studio audience. Google it. I don't need to - I will never forget it. Come to think of it, it is eerily similar to what we have witnessed this month.
All I can say is, the memory of witnessing such a cruel fate fades. And it will fade even quicker if we can pull this out....or tuck it back in.

Yeah, I thought about that as I posted it, but I really didn't want to explore just how far this must-win definition could go

They say they can prove that faith works wonders. The hallmark of this team's faithful has always been a willingness to believe in a team that has not always been easy to believe in. Good. That's what it is to be a Red Sox fan.
So be it.
That's been our lot through the last hundred-plus years. But this generation of faithful has gotten to cash in and in glorious fashion. The 2004 ALCS was scripted to the last detail to test and reward the tortured fanbase of the Boston Red Sox, and the 2007 Cleveland Series was there to filter out any clinging-on fans of convenience who were trophy-hunting without the will needed to stare into the seemingly inevitable gawping, doom that was obvious to the bandwagon fan.
There is no entitlement in sports. You don't win in the offseason or on the merit of you statistics. In wanting to win there is always the threat of disappointment, of heartache, of gut-wrenching loss. You don't get the high if you hedge your bets, if you hope, but with a discerning eye.
Is that you? Will that be you SoSH? I say no. I say we stay in this with all that we have left, our faith that is beyond fact and measure, that is inconceivable in rational scope. The kind of faith and belief needed will cost you your cynicism, your need to be predict disaster and be right. Can you walk into the fire? Will you test your mettle?
Mark me down as a glorious idiot, if you haven't already. But I, my brothers and sister of SoSH, am with this team to the end with all the belief I can muster.
Let's win this game.

Amen, brother! If the history of this team proves anything, it is that rooting for the Red Sox is not for the faint of heart. If the worst happens the offseason will offer plenty of time to grieve, but as long as we have life it costs nothing to BELIEVE!

Most importantly, win because there's nothing worse than missing out on October. No matter how bad you look, no matter how you limp in, playoff baseball is the best. No more excuses. Dig deep and find a fucking way.

This game is must-win.
At least it's a "must not lose ground" game.
MFY will go supine in Tampa in 162. They haven't named a starter, will likely sit a few regulars and absolutely, positively will not use anyone good out of the pen. Girardi has even pre-spun tanking that game by complaining that MLB should've built in a two-day break before the playoffs.
Hold the fort, Erik.

The whole team needs him to find that confidence and swagger again, and I actually think he will. Pregame shots of whisky may be involved. We will make the playoffs. I am not an "optimist" who can't handle reality without spinning everything "positively," but I do think we will make the playoffs.
The offense will score 7 or 8 runs in each of the next couple of games, and that will be barely enough.
This is not apple sox or barbecue sox. Remember that.

I am at a point where I don't even look for a win, I just want SOMEONE other than Dreamboat to show some balls on this team.
I don't care if Ellsbury has to hit 4 solo grand slams and earn the save himself, we need a win.
This is not apple sox or barbecue sox. Remember that.
I promise I'll remember that, but I can't in good faith promise to know wtf it means.
