Can someone explain to me why Lackey is scheduled to go Sunday or Monday, with Beckett Tuesday? Heres how I see it should be:

Wed 9/21- Beckett
Thu- Off Day
Fri 9/23- Lester
Sat 9/24- Wake
Sun 9/25- Bedard
Mon 9/26-Beckett- normal rest with the off day
Tues 9/27- Lackey- or one of Miller, Weiland, Aceves, etc
Wed 9/28- Lester (hopefully not needed)

By pitching Beckett on Tuesday it guarantees he wont be available until a possible Game 3. Cant they just skip Lackey altogether?

Beckett today and Monday would put him in Game 2 on Saturday with normal rest. Gotta be the plan.

Lester would go Game 1 on six days' rest in Game 1. If we need him on Wednesday, he's going in Game 3.

(Although who f'ing knows anymore. If it's the Tigers maybe we're better off letting Bedard eat one vs. Verlander and going Beckett, Lester in 2 and 3 and try to steal 4 at home with the Buch/Ace/Atch/Alb/Bard/Pap monster. With these playoff scenarios, seems like we've been living in the future for the entire past month.)

Edit: Fixed Lester math.

It'll be interesting to watch how the mood changes in here if/when the Rays light up Noesi and the Yankees in Game 1 this afternoon to draw even in the loss column. What a slow-motion train wreck this has been.

What does Rays hitting Noesi have anything with the loss column? If they hit him and win the game, the loss column remains unchanged.

Repeat after me until nobody ever has to say it again.

The loss column is no more important than the win column.

repeat after me reading comprehension is your friend

I said:

"because 2 games in the loss column makes it much harder on them to afford even one more loss"

nowhere did i say winning was less important, I was making the point that Tampa in that situation, has less margin for error, because any team no matter how good, and no matter who pitches, can lose one game, getting that extra game in the loss column is huge, in that it increases the Red Sox margin of error

This song applies to me (die hard REM fan) and hopefully to Buck and the O's. REM's quality of work did drop off by the mid to late 90's, much like the current Orioles. Still, they'll be horribly missed (not the O's).

It takes a Boston loss tonight to pull even in the loss column (that plus the Rays winning one of the 2 games today). So let's trust that Beckett will not let that happen.

No, the Rays would need to win both games.

I pray this doesn't jinx anything, but the team that was once the Highlanders is so far sending the Rays back to hitting hell, where they belong. What does that say about our pitching staff (horse getting buried so deep it's in China by now).

It says nothing more than what everyone (except John Lackey) already knows.

Ah yeah, yo!
This song is dedicated to all the happy people
All the happy people who have real nice lives
And who have no idea whats it like to be broke as fuck

[Verse One:]

I feel like I'm walking a tight rope, without a circus net
I'm popping perkasets, I'm a nervous wreck
I deserve respect; but I work a sweat for this worthless check
Bout to burst this tech, at somebody to reverse this debt
Minimum wage got my adrenaline caged
Full of venom and rage
Especially when I'm engaged
And my daughter's down to her last diaper
That's got my ass hyper
I pray that god answers, maybe I'll ask nicer
Watching ballers while they flossing in their pathfinders
These overnight stars becoming autograph signers
We'll all gone blow up and leave the past behind us
Along with the small fry's and average half pinters
While playa haters turn bitch like they have vaginas
Cause we see them dollar signs and let the cash blind us
Money will brainwash you and leave your ass mindless
Snakes slither in the grass spineless

[Chorus: repeat 2X]

That's Rock Bottom
When this life makes you mad enough to kill
That's Rock Bottom
When you want something bad enough you'll steal
That's Rock Bottom
When you feel you have had it up to here
Cause you mad enough to scream but you sad enough to tear

[Verse Two:]

My life is full of empty promises
And broken dreams
I'm hoping things will look up
But there ain't no job openings
I feel discouraged hungry and malnourished
Living in this house with no furnace, unfurnished
And I'm sick of working dead end jobs with lame pay
[ From : http://www.elyrics.n...tom-lyrics.html ]
And I'm tired of being hired and fired the same day
But fuck it, if you know the rules to the game play
Cause when we die we know were all going the same way
It's cool to be player, but it sucks to be the fan
When all you need is bucks to be the man
Plus a luxury sedan
Too comfortable and roomy in a six
They threw me in the mix
With all these gloomy lunatics
Walk around depressed
And smoke a pound of ses a day
And yesterday went by so quick it seems like it was just today
My daughter wants to throw the ball but I'm too stressed to play
Live half my life and throw the rest away

[Chorus]

There's people that love me and people that hate me
But it's the evil that made me this backstabbing, deceitful, and shady
I want the money, the women, the fortune, and the fame
That Means I'll end up burning in hell scorching in flames
That means I'm stealing your checkbook and forging your name
Lifetime bliss for eternal torture and pain
Right now I feel like just hit the rock bottom
I got problems now everybody on my blocks got 'em
I'm screaming like those two cops when 2pac shot 'em
Holding two glocks, I hope your doors got new locks on 'em
My daughter's feet ain't got no shoes or sock's on 'em
And them rings you wearing look like they got a few rocks on 'em
And while you flaunting them I could be taking them to shops to pawn them
I got a couple of rings and a brand new watch you want 'em?
Cause I never went gold of one song
I'm running up on someone's lawns with guns drawn

Then again, Hughes blows.

As to the "I'm not rooting for the Yankees, just take care of business" mantra, I agree, that's the height of lunacy. The Sox are getting routinely beaten about the nose and face. 5-15. They need all the help they can get. From anyone or anything, even a force as despicable as the MFYs. Go NY, go. Rah.

And Ivankamp,

(1) whether Wake has been our second best pitcher or not, he's still awful, as you wrote...I don't get why his relative Sox suck matters...suck is suck

I agree, he's been awful, but he's been the least awful of the non Beckett/Lester group. Someone outside of Beckett and Lester has to pitch games for the Sox, and Wake - as unfathomable as this may be - gives them a better chance to win than any of the other guys, at least as far as the recent stats suggest.

(2) Why does what happens in game one relate to game two? Really, it doesn't.

Rephrase the question please. I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Why is Granderson scratched?

It would be great if the Yanks rest Teixeira and Granderson at the same time against the Sox. I don't expect it to happen, but it would be nice.

I though they were considering flipping Bedard and Lackey so Sun should be Bedard/Nova. A significant upgrade IMO. As bad as Bedard was last night, Lackey is the worst pitcher in the majors in that spot, bar none.

bedard wasn't bad last night... reddick's error should have been out 3 in the third.

Tito shaking things up just a bit? It's worth a shot I suppose. And who else in that lineup is good enough to justify batting 5th? I would have maybe switched Aviles and Scutaro, but whatever. And yeah I know potentially one less at bat for Pedroia is not ideal, but Beckett will make any lineup construction concerns inconsequential.
