Well,... prior to their hottest streak this year, thay hadn't played that well before, either, and yet they did.

I'm not saying it's impossible, just unlikely. Or do you think they're significantly worse than their record says they are?

It's not inconceivable, but I think the team losing that many games is certainly unlikely. The offense can win more than 6 games on their own.

God I fucking hope so.

Edes just tweeted Carl is 5 for 34 against Rays. Embedded Ray?

And now to bask in warm feelings about Scutaro for few minutes before he weakly grounds out to remind us all that he is, in fact, Marco Scutaro.

I hate Lowrie

I hate that he has to be out there playing so often.

What they haven't done, however, is play that poorly for that long at any point in the season... which was my point. You don't simply lop off the previous 11 games as if they didn't happen when talking about the likelihood of them continuing to play this poorly. Previous play counts and has to be taken into account when predicting future performance. And I just can't see them extending this poor run that long. It would be the worst run of the season, by far.

This argument could go both ways -- what are the chances of a team that went 82-51 suddenly goes 9-19? But also, what are the chances that a team that just went 3-8 goes 6-11? If the reason your team just went 3-8 is that you lost two more starters, you have no middle relief, your third baseman can't turn at the hips, and your second baseman/MVP doesn't know how to take a walk, suddenly 6-11 looks a little more realistic.

I suppose you can look at it that way, but i'd probably argue that the quality of recent play is more indicative when predicting performance than an expected win loss record over a given stretch, much of which has already passed. Either way, it sucks. They need to just fucking win.

Fuck that. Bring on a 7 run inning.

Maybe it's the beer working its way through my system, but I'm tired of being frustrated and pessimistic. Win this fucking game.

I'd say the season record is more predictive than the last 11 games, but maybe that's just me.

It wasn't for the last 11 games :) If either of us knew we'd be on a plane to Vegas right now. Lester needs to step up tomorrow, and someone needs to hit a fucking baseball or two.

Three outs to get two runs.

Edit: looking forward to the offense winning this game on their own....

No....but even though we often laugh off the psychological element...when it's happening at the close of the season and your lead is shrinking....players can get tight and perform worse. See: 2007 Mets.

Neither outcome is in any way inconceivable. With the starting pitching available in the next couble of weeks something has to change, or they will make it uncomfortably close. The offense is going to have to come alive to win close to half those games.
