Al Davis finally gets his wish. The all offense no defense AFL has returned.

What a fucked up game.

Agreed. Dolphins were 2-14 on 3rd down, but went 4-6 on 4th down, don't see that too often.

No one got into the backfield consistently as a rusher. Seemed like more nothing than something from everyone (Carter, Anderson, Nink), but a few guys had nice plays.

We got a sack on a S blitz. I don't feel like the LB's blitzed much. Seemed vanilla, probably by design for game 1.

They brought some heat when they had to (those RZ drives), but they were in a cover-2/3 and man under a lot of the time, from what I could tell. I could be wrong, though.

Yeah, Ninkovich on the edge with all this depth I don't understand. He can't get to the QB. I thought Carter
was ok when given the chance. Was Anderson out there much?

Anderson had a sack in semi-garbage time

After a shitty weekend by the Sox, it was nice that the Pats got the job done.

It seems like they gave Wilfork and Haynesworth the rest of the night off after wilfork pancaked Henne.

The three Mikes calling a Raiders opening night game was one of the greatest nights in broadcasting history.

Mayo having to play in the middle hurts the pressure from the LBs. When Spikes gets back I expect Mayo to spend a lot of time in the opponent's backfield rushing from the outside.

Where can we get the pressure/hurry stats? I thought we had quite a bit of pressure... along with the 4 sacks.

Henne was also surprisingly mobile tonight. His evasiveness is not going to show up in any conventional stats.

Pass rush is definitely improved from the past few years. Then again, I don't believe it could have gotten worse.

I think we'll see more creativity as the season goes on and the coaches/players have more time to implement more complex schemes.

Also, Solder was a monster tonight. I mean, that could have gone the other way and he might have been completely exposed as a Week 1 Rookie starting against a premier pass rusher. Really looks like they hit a home run with this pick.

Got beat for one sack and one holding penalty. Besides that, pretty stellar against a very active game-changing pass rusher. Great first game for him.

I don't think he really got beaten on that sack did he? Wasn't Brady flushed out of the pocket by pressure from the other side?

Reiss:

Quiet debut for Haynesworth. Defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth did not start, and was used as part of a four-man rotation along the interior of the defensive line with Vince Wilfork, Kyle Love and Myron Pryor. He was credited with two tackles.

Underselling here a bit IMO. Looked fairly beastly, drew two holdings.

Yeah Solder definitely did his job on that play, sack was 90% on Brady, has to get rid of the ball on that play.

As well as Solder played it will be interesting to see him line up against someone over 250lbs. He really looks like a glorified TE. I think he will handle speed rushers with his athletic ability but I'm afraid a Richard Seymour type will eat him for lunch. I've never seen an OL with less lower body mass than Solder.

How many times was Dowling targeted tonight vs. completions given up? The eye test tells me he was very impressive but is there anywhere I can find this data?

Shouldn't you have to drop a "twatpickle" or say "dildo" half a dozen times to be offensive today?

Thanks, I now have this image of a demented Ron Jaworski shouting "DILDO! DILDO! DILDO! DILDO! DILDO!" until the producer cuts his mic off.

Depends what kind of ankle fracture it is. Minimum of 6-8 weeks, possibly 12-14 if he also needs his syndesmosis fixed. That being said, there's almost no scenario in which this isn't a better situation than an ACL, which would have ended his season without a doubt.

Well, hopefully it's about 10 weeks and he gets to play in the last 4-5 games and the playoffs.

Hell, even if he's only available for the last 2 games and the playoffs (knock on wood), that should be ok.

Rob Gronkowski has been an every-down Tight End for the Patriots since midway through the 2010 season and that did not change on Monday. He handled 75 of the 80 offensive snaps, which reinforces him as a Top 12 option in Fantasy. Aaron Hernandez can also be considered a TE1 going forward, as he was targeted nine times on 66 snaps. He was in the game to block 28 times, which is a good sign after he saw a dramatic drop in snaps down the stretch in 2010. Among the two tight ends, and Top 3 wideouts, someone had to lose big when it comes to Fantasy Football, as all five could not play regular snaps. The loser was clearly Chad Ochocinco in Week 1, as he played just 18 snaps. Deion Branch was the main beneficiary of that, handling 62 snaps. Wes Welker paced the wideouts with 67, while Julian Edelman and Matt Slater combined for nine off the bench. Danny Woodhead appears to be the team’s lead back, as he handled 57 snaps, compared to just 23 for BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Woodhead handled 40 pass plays, while BJGE was in on just 13. Blocking TE Dan Gronkowski was in on 21 plays.

Brady was 10 of 16 for 188 when being blitzed last night. 6 of 12 for 174 when under pressure.

Closer look at McCourty's night. Targeted 15, gave up nine catches for 151 yards.

Patrick Chung last night: 6 targets, 5 receptions.

Ras-I Dowling: 6 targets, two receptions.

I knew I should have put money on Brady going for a career high in yards today. They were saying how Cam Newton threw for more yards in a game his first game out than Brady ever did in a game. Extra motivation.

Bird-like.

Not sure if it's already been said, but I absolutely love the fact that the Pats went down there and took what was supposed to be one of Miami's key edges -- the heat and humidity -- and used it as a weapon by relentlessy attacking. I always thought the Miami heat thing was overblown anyway, since (1) Miami only plays a small handful of games in those conditions themselves and (2) most NFL players are accustomed to performing in the heat (and many come from the south). Based on some of the pre-game media comments I heard, you would've thought that all of the Patriot players had spent their entire lives in New England and would wilt like over-dressed Englishmen in the tropics.

Well, he is 5-5 in Miami over the course of his career, and 107-27 everywhere else. It does stand out a bit.

There was also this shitshow in '06...one of the worst games he's had.

12-for-25, 78 yards, 55.1 QBR. Ouch.

FWIW, that's only 2 more passing yards than he had in the KC game in '08.
