On my mark, unleash hell: 2011 season opener @ Dolphins

Like many of you, I had my doubts after watching the draft last April. "Surely they'll draft passrushers! Will they trade up for Quinn? Look C. Jordan fell to us! Imagine him lining up next to Wilfork!" We talked ourselves into being excited about this team even though the lack of draft sexiness was a concern.
Like many of you, I had my doubts about the chances of starting this season on time. There was too much solidarity on the part of the players, too much arrogance on the part of the owners, and too many reports involving lawyer pissing contests. The outlook wasn't looking brilliant for our Mudville 11.
Apres ca, le deluge.
Lockout over. Cats and dogs living together. Free agency begins when? How much do teams have to spend?? Players get their playbooks. BB tells the SoSH collective "I got your passrush right here." Haynesworth will line up next to Wilfork?!?! 8-5 is coming too? Hide the muskets!! What is this DL depth you speak of? Does 23-0 look possible?
The longest offseason ever became the shortest offseason ever. As our doubts faded, replaced by excitement, it one again became the longest offseason. Can we just get this party started already?
Yes. Yes we can.
Karma is a fickle mistress. She was with us years ago. In the span of 7 months she ran out on us and set herself against us. She has been unkind since those days. But perhaps we have caught her eye once again. Perhaps the sacrifices of a grieving man will remind her of how good it was years before things got complicated. There is something special about this team and she knows it. Finally we get to see what she's been staring at for the last couple of months.
So league, please be advised...
Please don't roll over at what you're about to see. Do your worst. Talk your trash. Throw yourself at this team with as much fury as you can muster. All it will do is fan the flames that will inevitably consume you. Tell others we're coming. And tell them hell is coming with us.

The Patriots are holding their afternoon practice on the lower field behind Gillette Stadium, and the big news is that starting right cornerback Leigh Bodden has returned. Bodden has been sidelined since the second preseason game with an undisclosed injury.
Meanwhile, starting right tackle Sebastian Vollmer was among those not present at the media-access portion of practice. Vollmer missed the preseason finale, although it was unclear why.
Elsewhere, injured interior offensive linemen Dan Connolly (right ankle) and Ryan Wendell (calf) were back on the practice field, as the Patriots worked out in light shoulder pads and shorts/sweatpants.
Other players not present for the media-access portion of practice today are:
WR Taylor Price
RB Stevan Ridley
CB Kyle Arrington
RB Shane Vereen
LB Jeff Tarpinian
DE Mark Anderson
DE Jermaine Cunningham

And I always wondered: was he actually just telling his friend to let his dog, named Hell, off the leash?

Dolphins are re-signing RB Larry Johnson. Makes you wonder how ready their rookie draft pick is to get carries and pass protect

http://espn.go.com/b...nce-at-practiceFOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Patriots held their third practice of the week on Thursday, and offensive lineman Sebastian Vollmer remained the only player not spotted during the media access portion of practice.
This meant that running backs Shane Vereen and Stevan Ridley, as well as defensive end Jermaine Cunningham were notable players to have practiced two straight days. Thursday's session was the second straight practice held in full pads.
The first injury report of the week will be released at 4 p.m. on Thursday, which should shed more light on Vollmer's status. If he does not practice on Friday, he will likely be kept out of Monday night's regular season opener in Miami.

Uh oh, sounds like Vollmer's not going to play. Solder will play RT. I wonder if the Fish will put Cameron Wake on him.
Vollmer or Solder, it doesn't matter. If Wake is there I expect a Gronk to be available to help.

Pretty heavy rain falling here in Fort Lauderdale for the past 20 minutes or so. Should clear by game-time but we'll see how it impacts turf

Brady has not played particularly well in Miami and has a rookie starting on the line and a work-in-progress WR. I'll be wondering all night who cramps and when and imagine that some of the D-lineman are in less than spectacular shape. Hope springs eternal this first week for almost everyone, and this is not an untalented opponent.
I'd be thrilled with a 1-point win in an ugly game in which nobody important gets hurt.

As we just mentioned on the show for those who asked, there will NOT be infield dirt for tonight's #Patriots #Dolphins game.
That is good news.

Just use my screen name. It makes a lot of sense for Miami.

I'll be watching in Denver's airport since my flight arrives right around kick off and I don't want to miss half the game getting to my hotel. Hopefully I can find a TV focused on the early game and not the Broncos pre-game.
The Boulder Beer Tap House is probably the least bad of your DIA options. It's in the main terminal near on the same level that you get off the trains from.
I want 225 yards of rushing.

Or you could just print a giant copy of Brandon Marshall's arrest record

Reiss said he expects a PS player to be added. I would think this to be the case.
BTW, ESPN showed it and it's pouring without the field covered. Could be slick.

Goddamn, it seemed like Tarpinian was kept around at the expense of one of the rookie tight ends or Maneri... and now we're letting him go to sign Welch off the PS. Bad roster management.Tarpinian released, Welch signed.

With Vollmer out, and Gronk more likely to be needed for blocking assignments, does an overthinking-Fantasy player with Gronkowski in his starting line-up quickly make the change to the handcuffed Hernandez?
Tough call, I see a lot of games looking like:
Hernandez: 6-100-0
Gronk: 3-40-1

Reis called him "injured linebacker Jeff Tarpinian" here so maybe he got hurt in practice after the cuts.
Cameron Wake scares the crap out of me tonight. I don't believe the Dolphins have the personnel to seriously scare Brady up the middle, but Wake coming off the edge can disrupt a lot of things.

It's going to be a very close game but the Patriots make the plays in the end to win it. It's time for the defense to step up and become a tough unit to play against. Make plays on 3rd down and get after the quarterback. Enough of this read and react shit. Take the fight to the opposition. That's the only way they are going to be successful in the playoffs.
