That 4 p.m. slate kind of sucks, but there is a bunch of good football on between Thursday and Monday.

As everyone knows Manning is questionable, that would probably be trouble playing in Houston.

News tonight that Matt Cassel has a rib injury, possibly cracked.

That Thursday game at Lambeau is an awesome opening salvo. I was worried they'd schedule Bears/Packers or something; Saints/Packers is a true royal rumble.

Too bad I have to teach a beer class on Thursday night. That should be an epic opening Thursday night game.

I think Philly at St. Louis could be a sleeper game. Classic "team anointed as pre-season champs" vs. "team with something to prove" matchup. Don't discount the home-dome factor. Detroit at Tampa should be another entertaining sleeper game.

In the "pointing out the obvious" category, Pitt at Bal is an awesome week 1 matchup. The hate between those two teams rivals, if not exceeds, Pats-Jets. Dallas at NYJ is a fantastic Sunday night game to cap off the day.

Monday looks like a snooze-fest. Maybe Miami puts up a fight, but Oakland and Denver look like non-contenders, even in that shit division.

Wait, what?

I work at a beer/wine retail store that does educational classes. I have to teach a Beer 101 class this Thursday from 6:30-8:30. If you live in the Charlotte area, you're more than welcome to attend free of charge.

I should be able to catch the second half, at least.

As always, I'll be there to witness it and folks in Boston can watch it, but this one edition may have 'ass-kicking' written all over it.

I've written in the Gene Chung thread about the Ravens' o-line issues (3 significant additions in the last 10 days). Less visible, but nonetheless significant, is this via PTF.com --

http://profootballta...ainst-steelers/

So Flacco may have to throw a lot because Ben is likely to throw a lot and successfully.

Flacco behind a balky o-line reminds me of Bledsoe. And it's UGLY.

Could Houston possibly lose this game against the Colts? If they do, Kubiak should be executed.

I like the Saints.
I like Brees.
I love the City of New Orleans.

BUT...

Have to keep reminding myself to root for the Pack tomorrow night. If ever there were a year for NO to go into the tank and miss the playoffs, this is it. Hey, a Pats fan can dream...

Indeed. I can't wait to watch that game. Two of the best teams in the league right out of the shoot. Man, I love the NFL.

That's quite a statement by Dungy, saying he would take Rodgers over Brady and a healthy Manning to win now.

Tony Dungy lucked into coaching a team lead by a QB who learned how to be a QB before he became coach. Don't trust anything he says about QBs. His tenure in Tampa made Marty Schottenheimer look like he was running a June Jones offense. I hate Dungy.

Meh, I enjoy counting Bill Russell's pre-merger NBA titles, and old NFL championships are more impressive than original-6 era Stanley Cups.

Nice start for our draft pick.
