We're sticking with the newer Westerns tonight.

Jon Lester is pitching.

Posted Image

The part of gamethread Jon Lester will be played by Ben Wade.

Posted Image

He's smart. He's tough. He'll beat you tricky, he'll beat you hard, he'll just beat you. And I have it on good authority that the ladies love them both.

Posted Image

So the strikes are coming. The hits are coming. The runs are coming. The Sox are coming.

Win the goddamn game.

It's no wonder you all emigrated to New York, because they wouldn't have you in Boston. You're a lot of savages, that's what you all are. A bunch of bloody savages. A plague on you.

Whatever his antecedents he was something wholly other than their sum, nor was there system by which to divide him back into his origins for he would not go. Whoever would seek out his history through what unraveling of loins and ledgerbooks must stand at last darkened and dumb at the shore of a void without terminus or origin and whatever science he might bring to bear upon the dusty primal matter blowing down out of the millennia will discover no trace of any ultimate atavistic egg by which to reckon his commencing.

Teixeira has apparently asked Girardi to be out of the lineup in order to re-cooperate from the "mental and physical exhaustion" of playing baseball. Girardi was not mum on the matter.
"Yeah, Tex was exhausted. He gets exhausted easily. It's not like a Rocco Baldelli thing, though. But he gets exhausted nonetheless. Work makes him exhausted. Not sleeping well makes him exhausted. He gets exhausted." Girardi made sure to point out he was indeed, exhausted. He went on further.

"You know, it's getting to the point where baseball needs to get there act together. Four hour games? Moths flying into Phil Hughes eye? AJ Burnett's hair? AJ Burnett? How are we supposed to win games in these conditions. It's getting to the point where it's unfair to ask a ballplayer to play the game. It's certainly unfair to ask me to manage like this." When a member of the media corrected him and said he over-manged instead of managing by calling for Jeter to bunt in the first, he gave insight into why that was. "You know, would you believe it if the same moth flew on my right arm sleeve? And obviously I had to brush the bug off, which coincidentally is the sign for the bunt. Would you believe that?" The media did. Girardi continued.

"All these four hour games are now being played under protest. It's bad for baseball; it's killing Tex; and we lose most of them anyways. The Red Sox aren't better than use; they are just less exhausted. That's critical to winning. I think Curtis is getting signatures of players right now, actually. You know, he's so well spoken, he's going to approach the player's union about the 'unfair and unsafe' work conditions that come with four hour games. Joe West just suspended his game in order to personally sign Curtis's thing. We'll see what happens, but I have a good feeling about this."

It should be noted that camera's at last night's game caught Girardi saying "I have a good feeling about this thing" when he brought Boone Logan into the game. Stay tuned to further developments.

NOTE: Nothing written here has any credence and is completely fabricated. Just a work of fiction to show the ludicrousness of Girardi and Tex bitching about anything they can.

How's this for some Sox news, lol

The Boeing Co., with help from its government friends, was able to stifle much of the information about its role in those infamous, and still ongoing, CIA "extraordinary rendition" flights the past four years. A challenge by the ACLU was thrown out after the U.S. claimed that revealing details about the torture flights arranged for the CIA by Boeing subsidiary Jeppesen Data Plan Inc. would harm national security.

But a trove of similar details - 1,700 operational and legal documents - has been languishing in a New York court filing room, showing how a plane belonging to Boston Red Sox and Liverpool Football Club mogul Phillip Morse and often used to fly sports teams was employed by a flight broker to ferry suspected terrorists to Guantanamo Bay and secret CIA prisons.

That would have been awesome to see. I very much enjoyed ESPN catching Josh saying "fucking asshole" after he had struck out Teix in the first and then glared at Gardner who had been at second base. On this morning's Sportscenter, they did the moving squares thing on Beckett's mouth to hide it. I don't think I've ever been able to lip read an epithet better on TV, HDTV really helping of course.

I wish it did really happen, but it didn't. I felt like it made a solid embellishment on my faux-article though, don't you? That fact that nobody would question that really illustrates how lowly people think of Girardi around these parts.

I always wondered this, and I'm biased obviously, but do Yankee fans hate Tito like I hate Girardi? I don't see how they could. Dislike him, sure. He's the enemy. I disliked Torre. But I fucking hate Girardi.

I don't hate Girardi. I do think he's a train wreck of a manager though. Therefore, I hope he continues managing the Yankees for years and years to come.

I had nothing but respect for Torre (albeit begrudgingly so) when he managed the Yankees, but that is fading away every time he opens his mouth as VP of baseball operations.

Not sure if this is new, but it's kind of cool: b-ref has splits by umpire for pitchers:

Burnett with Marquez as HP Ump (plus career numbers):

I Split G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR SB CS BB SO SO/BB BA OBP SLG OPS TB GDP HBP SH SF IBB ROE BAbip tOPS+
    Alfonso Marquez 8 208 178 29 50 13 1 2 6 6 26 37 1.42 .281 .373 .399 .771 71 5 0 4 0 2 2 .345 118
    Career Totals 308 8250 7219 963 1756 362 34 197 226 75 815 1755 2.15 .243 .326 .385 .710 2777 169 96 59 61 27 81 .293 100

Lester hasn't pitched with Marquez at home.

edit: sorry for formatting issues; generally, Burnett's been even worse than normal with Marquez as ump (including a higher walk rate).

I totally agree with Beckett's assessment of Gardy. This guy spends more time politicking the home plate umpire than any player I've ever seen. If i was the opposing pitcher that little shit would be asking "Where was that one ?' from a seat in the left hand batters box.

I think one of the reasons Tito put Pedroia back to cleanup (while bumping Scutaro to #2) and moved Ortiz back to 5th is because Scutaro has decent numbers against Burnett and Lowrie does not. Whether that is really a legit reason to make the move, I think that was likely the primary reason.
