Bedard was my choice in the poll thread. I could totally live with him being their pitching acquisition if it comes to that.

MLBN reporting this as well. He was also my choice in the poll, so I'd be quite happy if this turns out to be true.

Edit: No link - there's nothing on his twitter feed yet.

I assume Federowicz going means Lavarnway isn't. That would be good.

I kinda hate trading for a guy with only one start and a crappy one since coming off the DL.

Sounds kinda like they had a deal for Bedard and were desperately trying to come up with something better and failed thanks to Harden's medical suckage.

Heard that a minor league catcher and high minors pitcher were involved in the deal for Bedard....

All in all a good deal if they didn't have to give up a top 5 propect.

Fed-X is a great piece to move IMO. I suppose this means they are putting their chips in the "Lavarnway as Mike Napoli" basket as well.

-edit: By that I mean his role, not necessarily talent (although I like his chances).

On MLB network John Hart said that after his last start, Bedard told their manager (Wedge?) that he just felt too strong; that's why he said his command was off.

he would save the McCourt's about $1M for the rest of the year if he was pitching elsewhere.

Conflicting reports since Edes now has Stephen Fife involved with no mention of Chiang.

Have to say, hope Chiang stays even if currently blocked.

Also, Juan Robinson ... or Juan Rodriguez. I can't find a Juan Robinson anywhere.

Edit - I think Edes combined Trayvon Robinson and Juan Rodriquez. Robinson may end up with Sox. Big time power number at AAA but plays in PCL, i.e., hitter's league.

From all reports, sounding like it might be Fife, Chiang, and Federowicz for Bedard & Josh Fields. Perhaps Fifa/Chiang were the other "two prospects", as they are ending up in LA.

edit: Apparently we're getting Trayvon Robinson as well per Edes

Mariners then flip OF Trayvon Robinson to Sox

The three-way deal makes more sense for Seattle, since they don't have an immediate need for a catcher, while they desperately need bats. Chiang makes sense for the Mariners, given their appalling offensive deficit.

Three expendable prospects for Bedard isn't cheap, but given the Red Sox log jam in the upper minors, 5 prospects for Bedard and Aviles is a good roster turnover outcome.

I don't really see why this team needs yet another mediocre infielder. Josh Fields wouldn't have made sense yesterday, with Aviles on the team he really makes no sense.

edit: Oh, guess it's Seattle's Josh Fields. Still, he kinda sucks too, so what's the point?

Considering the Sox current left handed relief options are either:

A. unwilling to pitch at the major league level
B. recovering from TJ surgery
C. Suck

He could be useful.

If the Dodgers are involved, it seems logical that their interest is in shedding dollars off of the big league payroll.

Different Josh Fields. This is a minor league reliever with frighteningly bad control (6.4 BB/9 in mlb). I assume he must have awesome stuff.

Beyond his bat and position, I would add Chiang makes a ton of sense because of the significant Asian-American population in Seattle.

Fields was a guy Seattle fans thought would be their closer very quickly after being drafted in the 1st round a few years ago, but he hasn't put it together. He's struck out over a guy an inning over his minor league career, speaking to his stuff, but his control has been putrid. If he could be straightened out, he could be a valuable bullpen piece in the future.

Trayvon Robinson is actually kind of a lot to give up - #4/4-star per Goldstein. Which is why it seems almost impossible he's coming to Boston, too, although it would be pretty sick.
