Federer can't win a point on Djok's serve, let alone a game. Either it goes to a tiebreaker or Federer is done if there is a break.Fed getting worked over. He's going to need a HUGE turnaround to win the match.

Very solid break, I am so completely shocked Fed broke. I didn't think he had a chance to do that.Federer's FH is in vintage form this set.
Edit - Djok unraveling completely right now.

I still think one of the dumbest things in sports is the fans not being able to cheer through the points and get to stay loud while the point is going on. Adds so much energy and excitement.

Getting old is tough.Wow, what an epic collapse by Federer. Very sad, once upon a time he was the most mentally tough player on tour. Those days are long gone.

Not that he is anti-Federer in the slightest, but does anyone get the feeling McEnroe is rooting for Djokovic a little bit?
It must be hard for McEnroe not to root for the guy whom the crowd is against.
Great match.

Haters gonna hate, but I love Novak. Just an incredible match. Regardless of the finals outcome, hopefully it shows people he is a legit top tier player. This ain't no lucky streak.
I don't think anyone doesn't think he's a top player. He's having an historic year and has mad game. What some people, like myself, can't stand about him is that he's an obnoxious jerk. His celebrations, including today's chest beating are a bit excessive and his insecurity w/the crowd whenever they're not cheering for him is childish. People don't like him because of the way he acts, not his game. He certainly doesn't have the class nor shows respect the way Nadal and Federer do. He seems to really want people to like him and I think he tries too hard.

Indeed, that was epic.I loved Djokovic's "are you not entertained?" look to the crowd on the 40-15 Federer serving for the match. Just hysterical
Tennis is such a momentum sport and Jokie created it for himself right there out of whole cloth. He just willed his way over Federer; never thought I'd see that. What a match.

It's still 1-1 but Murray has no chance. What a loser. I can't believe Nadal always gets him in his half of the draw. /bitterfedfan
Last 6 grandslams have had Fed/Novak Murray/Nadal in the same draws, yet it's supposedly random.

While I do agree that his insecurity when the crowd isn't behind him is a bit on the childish side, can you really call him an obnoxious jerk? He wants to be loved, is that so wrong?? Honestly, some of the vitriol directed toward him is really head-scratching. On the baseball diamond, we all love guys like Pedroia who are demonstrative and emotional as long as they are wearing the hometown laundry. I realize tennis is a different sport and I realize he has a history of some immaturity when he was younger, but I don't think Djokovic is a bad guy.
Seriously, I like Novak because he's a personality. He's colorful. He's animated. And sometimes it crosses the line between being fun and being interpreted as mean-spirited, but the same could be said for guys like Connors way back when. It wasn't until late in his career that the US crowd found his personality endearing.
I'd take Djokovic any day over a guy like Sampras in terms of watching tennis. I respected Sampras as a player and admit he is one of the best of all time, but man, the dude was dry. I understand Djokovic can be a little off-putting, but he's just 24 for crying out loud. He's allowed a little emotion and fire, I think.

You just answered your own question. Tennis generally doesn't like the chest-thumping asshole, especially when you haven't really won all that much and are competing against two guys who not only are among the greatest of all time in your sport, but are also classy and pretty humble to boot. Nobody like McEnroe's brattiness, or Jimmy's dickish tantrums (until he was an old underdog) and nobody liked that Racist From Down Under, Lleyton Hewitt. Djokovic has a rep as a douche because he's acted irritated when the crowd has rooted for his opponents. And also because he's Serbian and no one likes them.

It's all personal preference. I liked McEnroe. Wasn't a big Connors fan. I like Novak, but think Andy Roddick is a brat. So, I'm probably all full of shit on the topic.
Like I said before, haters gonna hate. That's cool. Root for who you want. That's what makes this fun. All I was saying was that I think Novak proved he belongs in the upper echelon of today's men's tennis players, despite having not won that much. And that I really don't think he's generally an obnoxious jerk.

So he celebrated... so what? He just survived 2 match points against a 16 time Grand Slam winner to win an epic 5 setter and advance to the US Open. I'd be thumping my chest too.
There's nothing wrong with outward emotion. He played a great match. And when push came to shove, Djokovic was the one who stayed composed and excelled under pressure, not Roger.

She is head and shoulders above everyone else in the women's game, except maybe Clijsters when she's fully healthy. And her sister, if Venus didn't, you know, have some debilitating disease now.

It was a choke. But to choke, you have to be in a position to win. Federer was there and looking comfortable. Bring on next year.
As for the final, let's go Novak.
I am with you on that. I am not a Djokovic fan, but I don't hate him like others.
But to me Federer Nadal is like Red Sox Yankees, and I am in the Federer camp, so that means I root for anyone over Nadal
