Wow that is scary goodPegula's a madman, this will get done regardless of the price. The Sabres are becoming a problem. Myers, Regehr, Ehrhoff, Leopold, Morrisonn and Sekera/Weber is a damn good D in front of Miller.

With all the B's cap room, not being in on Regehr is large swing and a miss by PC. The tunnel of death would have looked good in the Garden.Wow that is scary good

You have an unnatural love for Regehr huh? I don't disagree that he is a good player, but he isn't exactly what the Bruins need. They do not need another stay at home defenseman type, they are all set in that department. They need someone who can more than replace what Kaberle did and be the leader on the PP as well as push the puck up at the ice when being forechecked aggressively. With all the B's cap room, not being in on Regehr is large swing and a miss by PC. I think you're overstating it a bit. Moves should not be made in a vacuum of there being an excess of space. As BSF points out, he'd be pretty redundant on the Bruins, and while a good player, he seems to have lost a half a step or so. The Bruins are in such a great position with the majority of a championship team coming back, being relatively young AND having money to play with. So many options if you feel the fit is right and I'm sure if it is Chia will make a move.
Regehr was not that kind of fit.

The way things are going right now leading up to free agency, it's going to be a feeding frenzy for any halfway decent blueliner. 4-5 million per for Wisnewski and 5-6 per for Ehrhoff are not out of the realm of possibility.
I'd have taken my chances with two years of Regehr at 4 mil per and let Kampfer/Hamilton have a shot at developing.
Worst case senario is you have a guy who is more physical than Chara and Seidenberg that Claude can give minutes to in the post season who will clear space for Timmy and grind down the oppostion. Plus in the post season, even with out last change, you can have a defensive force on the ice without breaking up Chara and Seidenberg.

I haven't heard anything, but I would have liked to get a deal done prior to 7/1. Offer sheets aren't all that common, but some of the more notable ones have been given to guys coming off great playoff runs (see Penner, Dustin and Vanek, Thomas).
Not to mention that there will be numerous teams with cash they have to spend. There will be at least one team willing to overpay for a player with a game geared for the post season and with the potential for creating a rabbid cult following. PC needs to get this deal done.

I saw this earlier. What's the latest on Stamkos?
According to sources close to the situation, the Flyers are still seriously considering putting in an offer sheet, which could not even be accepted until tomorrow at the earliest.
Team sources told the Daily News yesterday that if an offer sheet were to come, it would be for around 12 years, $115 million, which would produce an annual cap hit of approximately $9.58 million. The deal also would include a no-movement clause that would kick in before the 2016-17 season.

That's alot of ching for a guy who wasn't exactly outstanding in the post season.

I have a hard time seeing Philly give up four first round picks for Stamkos.
Eh, Holmgren hates draft picks. He traded away his last 3 first round picks, before picking up Columbus' in the Carter deal. I think he'd do it, and Schenn/Couturier would essentially replace the draft picks lost to Tampa.
That said, I don't think they have the cap space to pull this off at the moment. At last check, they had $8 million in space, and needed Voracek and Simmonds signed. Not sure how they would do that and then fit in $9.5 for Stamkos.

Not that it matters, because Tampa would match that deal in a heartbeat I would think. I don't see any way that he leaves TB.Eh, Holmgren hates draft picks. I doubt that any team is going to greatly overspend for Marchand and if they do I hope Chia thinks with his head and not with his heart.
I'm not sure what you mean by Marchand's game being geared for the post season? He had a great playoffs but so did Fernando Pisani a few years back which ended up causing EDM to vastly overpay him. I'm not saying Marchand and Pisani are the same player because Brad is much younger and Pisani did end up with some health problems but I do hope Chia doesn't overpay because Brad had a great playoff run.
If someone wants to give him more than 3.1M (1st & 3rd) as an RFA I would have to think long and hard depending on which team it was. If they want to give him 4.7 (1st, 2nd, 3rd) I'm saying thanks for the memories as I drive him to the airport.

Okay, but the teams that are most desperate to reach the cap floor suck and won't give away their top draft picks to give a guy like Marchand an outrageous contract. The Bruins have no incentive not to match any offer unless it is something completely ridiculous that would yield higher compensation than Marchand would ever be worth.
edit: What j44thor said, although I would definitely match if the offer was over $3.1 by a reasonable amount and I think Chia would too.

He's tough to play against, a consummate agitator and can dent the twine. And his offense came at even strength or short handed. He put up numbers that were very close to Claude Lemeiux's Conn Smythe post season in 1994/95 when he was 29 and in his prime. Marshmont's 23 & he's got years to improve. If PC had no problem handing a 27 year old Ryder 4mil per 3 years ago, 4 per for a 23 year old who could easily match Ryder's goal output with a much more complete game isn't that much of a stretch.

Did anyone here think Philly would ship out Carter and Richards then break the Bank for Bryz? This has already been a pretty crazy lead up to free agency and I can see GMs from the good teams getting desperate as well.

Any significant moves for the Bruins will probably come via trade as Chia said today that he has entered in talks with a few teams and is willing to part with picks/prospects.
This has me pretty excited. Kaberle aside, Chia has done very well in the trade market and with a young, stacked team the picks aren't worth much to him and it'll be tough for many prospects to crack the roster. I hope he keeps Knight off the table, everything I hear about this kid makes him sound like he will be a perfect Bruin.

James Wisniewski, who will sign with the BJs in the next 24 hours, will be one of the big winners of this year's UFA class.

Agreed. With the way the market is shaping up, there will be a lot more value in the trade market. Teams are going to try and shed salary left and right for some of these FA's, so maybe they can find something there.
